Whats the point of having this within EVE? Its deceitful, infantile and above all else embarrassing.
Deceitful - Well for a start its all lies isnt it...totally made up rubbish. Imo its the creation of CCP to create an illusion that theres more going on within the game than there actually is...and due to this being a subscription game i can see why they would wish to attempt such a feat but that doesnt make it right. It also opens the door for being abused. Who else noticed the other week with the `sell orders bug' issue that the RP guys actually blamed the problem on `a rogue trader who'd broke into an office somewhere'! How long before all technical issues vanish and are replaced with tales of EVE pixies armed with interstella wrenches dismantling stargates? Dont we have enough `spin' to put up with in RL without having it introduced into our forms of escapism?
Infantile - I think its fair to say that due to having to pay a subscription fee the average age of EVE players is above more conventional online gamers. May i remind the game makers that the vast majority of us are infact adults and simply are not interested in such juvenile story telling. `The King of Ugoolyboogly today denied loosing his rag with 1 of his eunuchs and shooting him around the inner rim' - Please do us a favour and save it for ur kids bed time.
Embarrassing - Picture the scene, 2 m8s with a mutual liking for online gaming meet in a pub for a pint or 2.
EVE Player: `Ello m8, hows it hangin'?'
Non EVE Player: `Ello m8, yeah not 2 bad...u?'
EVE Player: `Yeah so-so'
Non EVE Player: `So whats the score with EVE then?'
EVE Player: `Yeah its not bad. U gotta mine rocks or hunt npc's 2 earn money to buy bigger ships/better equipment etc etc. Its all played out within a vast galaxy which has its own crude form of rolling politics due to player made alliences/wars etc....Oh and theres also the `Princess and goblins' style story telling which runs thro the official news channels which has chaff all to do with the actual game....oh and theres the oddballs that meet in far flung locations to don virtual deer stalkers whilst engaging in formation humming. This tends to be interspersed between reenactments of scenes from Honey i Shrunk The Kids in an attempt to find their inner beings'
Non EVE Player: *Downs drink asap then beats a hasty retreat from the pub*
Anyway theres my 2 penith...i dont expect anything to change because of course money is involved. Infact im fully expecting the thread to be deleted because im not `towing the party line' but there u go.

Play the game how you want.
If you like roleplaying, do it, if you don't, don't.
EVE is big enough to cater for all types of gamers.
If you don't like things being covered up with a Roleplay angle, ignore it.
Certainly don't bother to make a thread out of it :P

Dont you think that there are hundreds if not thousands or kids playing the game and their parents pay the bills?
Why the hell should CCP not roleplay what happens just to suit your logical mind ?
Why the hell should CCP stop roleplaying what happens for you, if you so clearly relise that there was something else ?
I dont give a rats butt what you think of this since this game was not done to suit you.
And you with your sharp and straight mind must know that there are different peaple in this world so what doesnt fit you others may love and vice versa.

Lordy, there are a lot of things to get upset about with valid cause in eve, but I hardly think roleplayed justifications for bugs and screw-ups is one of the more pressing concerns.

In which you make two very broad-ass assumptions;
1. That the older you get the less room there is in your life for fantasy. (the clientele of some specialist clubs in london would disagree one suspects.)
2. That you have your own fingers on the pulse of public opinion. (you don't). In fact its generally impossible to make any such claim to speak for a community in majority without looking like a dullard. You simply don't know enough people to even speak authoritively for even a significant minority let alone the entirety of the adult player base.
And re your description of the scene to a non-eve player down the pub, heh, I usually describe the game as ...
"Multi-player elite space opera with alliances and conquest, pychological ops and backstabbing to the cheery dancebeats of the moulin rouge"
Funnily enough my friends don't run away ;)

I wouldn't call RP Decietful.. thats kinda like saying Harrison Ford's a lieing swine because he never actually found the arc of the covernent..
RP is a bit deeper than that, the 'characters' are capable of deciet, but playing those characters isn't deceitful in itself.
I certainly wouldn't consider it infantile or embarrasing.. its a cool way of being someone different, be it a pirating b^stard, or a layabout bum (that one would be me..).
I think you need a paper bag to breathe in, take a step back and look at this the perspective of others, and try to imagine the eve universe without RP - no Alliances, no races, no background story - ah.. it's the sims! .. NOOOOOoooooooo

I think people, there is no hope for this guy. If he hasn't understood after all the good arguements put forward he will never understand.
The best we can hope for is that he lives far away on a rock in Jove space, talking about RL politics, football scores and cleaning to his deaf agent.

I do like the game...i just find that what i call the `kidification' element of the game pitiful. I pay my money like every1 else so i think im entitled to say my views if i like. The wave of abuse ive recieved imo is uncalled for and not 1 single 1 of u has added anything constructive to the debate. Rather than just slinging mud at me why dont u try and give some reasons why ur `pro' RP like i have give reasons why i against it.

I support RP in EVE since it suits many, wouldnt bother me the slightest if it was removed or not but it might hurt others.
You must know that, like I said in my first posts that you arent alone and what you like others may hate and vice versa.
In your case you hate what is harmless and does not destroy your gameplay.
If you had your way and changes would be made in this case it will hurt for OTHERS.
Hope that clears it up.
Ps, I think the mud fest is because it seems/seemed that you want to remove a feature that others may take joy in, that isnt very cool.
