Hello, just a thought. the more I train skills to lvl5 and the more I find unfair the balance between the time used to train and the bonus given by the skill. looking at it timewise I would think that the bonuses should be increasing with the levels of the skill. For exemple a skill that actually give 5% per level would do something like that: 1st lvl : 1% 2nd lvl : 3% 3rd lvl : 5% 4th lvl : 7% 5th lvl : 9% This way training skills to high levels would really make a difference according to the time used to train it.

Ok, I read it. And I still think it would be more fair to give high time consuming level a high value retribution.

Diminishing returns in terms of bonuses for rank is meant to make the game more competitive between older and newer players. And it is further balanced by bonus stacking, of which skill stacking is not penalized. -- Flame on. |

I see no real problem with the skill system the way it currently stands. While it seems that the reward of training to level 5 in a skill may be disproportionate, that really isn't the case. The training of a skill to level 5 is nearly always rewarded with either an advancement to a new and better skill, or the ability to use or train for a tech 2 variant of an item in-game. In fact, the skill system is designed extremely carefully to allow only what a player needs (such as the ability to use certain tech 2 small modules at lvl 3, medium at lvl 4, and large at lvl 5); therefore, what may be a useless level 5 skill to a frigate pilot is well worth the train time to a battleship pilot. AS far as the actual bonuses, those also seem more disproportionate than they truly are. While the train time on level 4 and 5 of a skill may seem higher, the train times of levels 1 through 3 are next to non-exsistent. Since you obtain sixty percent of your skill bonus from training levels 1 through 3 in less time than the next twenty percent from level 4, said level 4 is the only real donut hole in a train time, since level 5 provides tech 2 capabilities and access to advanced skills. Even skills that have no advanced skill to train afterwards (such as engineering or electronics) are still pre-requisites for the advanced ships in the game, and the designers were seemingly careful in making those rank 1 skills, so invested time is still worth the payoff of better ships, yet not unduly so. Once you break it down farther, CCP really put a lot of thought into their skill system.

that makes a lot of sense. it's still frustating to spend 70 days of training on capital 5 to get 5% agility :) But It's true that after I'll have the chance to spend 4B on the titan skill. Seriously I think your right on this Onnawa
