Although the title makes this thread sound like a whine, the actual post descends into well-organized, reasoned discourse pointing several facts and possible ramifications of those facts. Truly, we have a rare breed of animal on our hands, and all efforts must be made to preserving it. ---

Hours upon hours of grinding away for only a few seconds of fun in some cases, the op & the post a few above mine speak the truth. Is there much that ccp can do about it? nope, this game is a big sandbox supposedly, either we find some other way to avoid the grind and have fun or leave it all together.

i wouldn't mind ccp opening another area of space that did not allow capital ships OR pos'. i'm sure they could find a way to justify the inability for cap ships to enter it. and it would at least give people the option of playing blob or gang warfare.

Completely agree, EVE pvp used to be like "Commandos", tactical and smart.. now its only about the mind numbing blobs and POS wars.
I think it all started when Xetic whined about industrial alliances not having enough tools in 0.0!!

old-timers probably remember back when you could take a conquerable station just by shooting its shield down with a dozen or so BS, there were no pos, no capitals back then.
whether or not this was better, I'm not sure. And I haven't heard of a better solution from anybody to take and hold space that doesn't require a blob either with or without POSes. But I will say big fleet fights CAN be fun, but the lag and desync ruins it.

Small gang and solo pvp is where the fun is for a lot of people, so I hope they sit down and have a look at the current pvp the game has, and maybe redesign some of the stuff that simply is not fun.
QFT. I agree wholeheartedly with this and everything in the original post except the part about not liking battleships (I love battleships and command ships).
Quote: But its a complex job. Capital ships is kind of natural in a game like this. Too bad they seem to make the game worse instead of better. Im not talking from any personal experience here though. Cant fly them and im not even in a 0.0 alliance.
Speaking from personal experience, the only good thing I can say about carriers is that they're excellent tools for logistics. You rarely actually engage with one, and spend most of your time sitting around waiting for the FC to decide the carrier strike force on standby is too much to risk (which the FC inevitably will).
Regarding dreads, they suck. The ONLY fun thing you can do with them is shoot other capital ships, and that doesn't happen all that often. On those occasions when you do actually get to shoot at a carrier or the like, it usually involves four or five hours of sitting on your ass in your mostly immobile ship while everyone else around you gets to have fun or go do something else, followed by a whopping ten or fifteen minutes of actual combat. Personally, I'd rather be mining - and I haven't mined since 2004. :P -Wrayeth n00b Extraordinaire

I'm still waiting for my -5 to Gallente to actually mean something :(
I would love it if gate navy/custom NPCs put up a *fair* fight (none of this instajam wtfpwnage) (obviously with the assistance of immune sentry guns) so I could score navy tags to match my 6.0 to Caldari state lvl 4 mission running rewards

I agree with everything but walking in stations. Heat and walking in stations are stupid ideas and a huge waste of time and resources. Capital ships and POSes do suck donkey dong though.

1. I completely agree. POS are an albatross. They require too much work to setup, to keep up, and to destroy. They made cap ships necessary... and require so much micromanagement that it can render the game 'unfun'.
2. See #1
3. Totally agree.

Only been playing for less than a month and I agree with most of which you say. Fortunately, those problems are insignificant in comparison to problems in other MMO's. I like the dev's here and I hope it stays that way.

You are right on that. Eve is such a good game and the devs get so much of it right! Sometimes I log in to just undock and look at stars and marvel at this virtual world they created. But I do miss avatars from Earth and Beyond. And walking around stations and buying stuff. Then hopping off to my ship and flying away. And I miss being able to redecorate and personalize my ship so it doesn't look exactly alike every other one out there.
I love Eve but as time goes on the devs seem to be working more and more on things I don't want and less on things I'm interested in. I think there needs to be a renewed focus on solo and small gang action. Cause sometimes you don't have 400 friends to blob with.

Originally by: Nub tard ...Most of us, have to work and pay taxes. That leaves us with anywhere from 2 to 6 hours each day to enjoy ourselves. Some of us that work also have a family that requires time too.
EVE is cool, but it needs to be less time consuming. I don't know how that can get implemented, but for me, it was almost like I had a second job while playing eve. Are my blueprints out of research yet? Are my ships done building yet, how much can I undercut everyone else in the region and still make a profit, and not charge less for what minerals are used? Who is going to kill me today? How much will I loose? etc...
....I started to realize that a bunch of *@ss hats* play EVE, and I really didn't like them. These so called "die hard" PVPers where capsuleers who proclaimed themselves anything from a saint to a pirate. These people only really had one goal in playing EVE and that's to ruin someone else's day.
I understand where the OP is coming from, but I'm quoting this fellow because I identify more with his complaints.
I wish CCP would do more to make Eve the deep, complex game experience it's supposed to be. As it is, things seem to be swinging more and more toward the so-called "die hard" pvp types.
To those players, Eve is just another FPS. They howl and whine and hurl insults here on the forum, and CCP listens to them and give them more of what they say they want.
Meanwhile, their juvenile behavior (suicide hi-sec ganking, for one thing) drives people like me out of the game. Eventually, they too will leave because such people get bored easily and once another FPS with bigger explosions comes along, it will be bye bye Eve.
By then, the game will be so tilted toward the pvp angle that when the pvp types leave, there will be few, if any, industrialists/researchers/etc left to keep the game viable.

As I have said before, Eve needs more things to mine in hi-sec and more consumable things to produce.
It needs more for solo players who only have, at most, a couple of hours every other night to play.
