Ok so after the the unveiling of the Rorqual and its unique bad ass looking ability to transform into an industrial outpost,

We the EVE community DEMAND animation for Dreadnoughts entering siege mode.

Especially after hearing the rockin soundtrack in this video

At least say "its coming" in a Dev Blog to make us happy.

Well, once they implement station walking and later warfare on planets, this could be a plausible idea! As far off as it could be, it would be pretty cool to have engagements via transformers and battle walkers on planets. (BF 2142 anyone) But obviously more transformer oriented than what bf 2142 was... maybe... *shrugs* who knows; planet warfare is a few years off I'd think.

Most of the dreads have some kind of animation when hitting siege - Phoenix for example raises its guns and sweeps them back like a swooping bird moves its wings behind slightly.

Nothing as OMGPWN as the Rorqual though

 Ehhhhm...

I dont see any reason why a ship should be able to morph into a planetary vehicle, the reason for this is that I cant really see the point in transforming from for example a Typhoon into a truck, a Merlin into a sports car or a MOA into a sports utility vehicle.

Lets face it, as cool as it would be to have a Porche ingame it wouldnt be able to do much :)

I just do not get the hype about this "transformation". You have one panel that moves 90degrees and some external pods that rotate 90 degrees. Big deal. The only possible "ooh wow" factor is the 2 axis rotation of the ship that is only really noticeable because of the artificial up-down orientation we are forced to observe. That change wouldn't be so stunning if the ship maintained it's original orientation.

In any case, not that the first movie has come out (yes there will be more and they will be just as bad) its just a question of how long before a transformer MMO comes out.

 i agree with Praesus Lecti
there's no "UP" or "DOWN" in space
so why it need to turns up??
we are always forced to stay on an 'horizontal way'
but maybe this is just good, i cannot imagine everyone turning his ship like 'top gun'
 wait... could be cool

Actually there is an "up" and "down" of sorts.

Up and down are just words we use to explain the effects of gravity in our daily lives, down being to where gravity is pulling and up being in the other direction.

An apple falls down towards a large mass such as a planet for example.

When inside of a solarsystem there will be gravitational forces just as on the surface of a planet its just that they are very small, so small infact that we humans with our unaccurate sences wont be able to pick them upp and thus there is no upp and/or down.

However as people are simple we like to be able to use the same words over and over, for this reason we will define up and down in space just as we do on a planet however in space the terms wont be defined by gravitational pull as that would meen down is towards the sun and up is away from it.

Lets use our own solarsystem as a reference, most people know that on the surface down is towards the ground, however if we are talking geographically up is north and down is south thus it would be logical to assume that in space in our solar system up is if you stand on the north pole and look straight upp and down is if you stand at the south pole and look straight upp.

As our planet is orientated with the north/south axis the same way through its entire revolution of the sun then this would meen that if you are sitting in a ship 2 AU off saturn "upp" would be along earths magnetic axis out of the north pole.

In EvE we cant use a single system to define up and down however as it can be hard to know half way across the galaxy exactly what the orientation of a single planet is, especially as the factions would imediatelly start wars over what planet would be the basis for this but there is another posibility, the galaxy we are in is a flat disc, one side is upp, the other is down.

I expect the ships have been designed to align according to this up/down orientation if for no other reason then because it is estetically pleasing to the designer :)
