I'd like to see something like Josh's map where warzones are marked, and perhaps some kind of indicator of momentum.
Momentum... good idea :P
How about kinda "arrow" type things as usually used in war documentaries. The vectors could be calculated from previous snapshots of the situation and given a certain threshold, so that it doesn't get too messy.
Could be really neat... If you don't get around to it earlier, I'll check your source and perhaps write a solution myself. Also, imo, this entire thing could be rewritten into java and ran off a random linux shell. Mixing languages is kinda nasty and Java is crossplatform + Java has very good XML parsing libraries, that would handle most of this stuff automagically(tm).
Anyway, I will see what I can do about implementing JDBC+something like XStream this weekend. Could be fun.

Strongly disagree that it is hard to do, a bit of simple math.
Also, I looked over your project. While it works, it made me laugh :)
I'll make a "small" redesign this weekend, and probably set up SVN. If you are interested, drop me a line with IM in eve-mail or something.
If not, I'll just dump it here after it's done and you can decide for yourself if you want to use it ;)

Edited by: Ryysa on 08/11/2007 11:21:44 don't have eve at work, so I'll read it in about 8 hours from now ;)

You are kidding right?
While the end result is great, and I will not dispute that, the current "architecture" would make a good article for dailyWTF.
I'll try to fix that though :)

Constructive criticism with a will to improve things usually gives better results than sugarcoating though. Well, not in all cases. It probably won't get you laid, but it will lead to better software!

Probably should wait until I finish refactoring this thing.
Adding various new stuff will be a huge lot easier then :)

Update...
Done: 1. Api parsers, along with downloading... 2. Model classes with Hibernate ORM persistence mappings. 3. Service interface/implementation interface. 3a) API Parse service + implementation. 3b) DB Bulk update service + implementation. 4. Automatic database schema generation via hibernate. 5. Fully crossplatform and backend-independent solution (can use any RDBMS). 6. Spring IOC
TODO: 1. Main launcher class 2. XML Configuration support 3. Refactoring of the entire map generation method, as it's fugly right now to say the least. 4. EvE database dump import service along with implementation. 5. Add many-to-one relations to Hibernate ORM mapped javabeans.
Getting there, surely, but slowly. If anyone wants to help and wants source, drop me a line IG.
