Dear CCP,
I am sure you have already experienced the power of a community banding together to achieve a common goal. This time we have successfully collected for each one of us, hundreds if not thousands of likes, in a timeframe of less than 24 hours. This have proven several points we have already made before, but were fallen into deaf ears.
1. It is gamable.
2. It is gamable in stealth. (That was not the only thread that was farming likes.)
3. It is utterly pointless to have a "likes receieved" underneath your avatar.
This issue have earned itself a place in the forums, and nobody is not involved. This thread has one and only one message. Please, get rid of "likes received" under our pictures, because of the very well illustrated reasons above.

You are right.
It is ******** and not very EVEish in my opinion to show "likes received" under the portrait.
Got to agree on the point that it can be useful to "like" good posts though. |

I'm not crazy about the likes thing myself.
CCP should give us a check box in ours forums profile settings to show likes. Like they have with the corp name and alliance. Then those who give a darned about such foolishness can display their likes and others can turn it off. |

If your posts are good, you inevitably get positive ratings, regardless of whether or not a small handful of dicks hate everything you do. The masses greatly outweigh the dicks, even in an environment as full of dicks as the LoL forums. |

Personally, can't stand the thing. I'm rather fond of what little internet privacy I have, and there is no chance I'll willingly use something that proclaims my "status" to the world. I don't even use the Eve Gate version of Facebook for anything but corp info or getting to the forum |

Hmm, the creator of facebook wants one happy world where people can only like things, I guess.
Eve-online though... as we all know, is not all that happy most of the time. So it would be appropriate to add a _DISLIKE_ button as well.
If they'd do that, then this like-system may stay, imo. |

I feel much the same way. I got a Facebook account at one time, and tried to get rid of it but couldn't. Once in a while I take a look at what is going on in there, and what I see is a lot of people posting, and not really paying attention to their likes, only the comments. I think the like system there is more for the reader and not the poster. |

It is enough for unpopular points of view or opinions to get 'targeted' by large groups, ie nerf moon mining and the haters come along to dislike those supporting that point of view. *IF* dislike carries any weight besides a count it gets much more worse from there.
As it stands all not getting likes does is show you probably haven't posted anything OR only troll but it doesn't guarantee either of those being true. Just as a large like count only shows you probably post alot, are getting likes for nothing, or have been on the forums for a long time, none of which are guaranteed to be correct.

So likes in general are irrelevant. As neat as it is to have a huge like count under my name, it doesn't mean anything. Status gain generally happens in game, not in the forums. |

Exactly, the creator(s) of facebook are pussies and they want to make the world seem like a place full of roses and flowers, hence no DISLIKE button, eve-online however is a dark place, so it needs a dislike button. They even represented those new forums as a platform that's ready for new EPIC flame wars.
SO either get rid of this 'like' system, or keep it but add a dislike button, kthxbye . |

Agree that "Likes received" under our avatars is pointless.
However, for threads I would like to see for each post buttons for Agree, Disagree, Off-topic, Funny, Obsolete Information, Troll, Learn2Read, Wrong, SuperWrong, and WTFAreYouSmokingWrong as a means to facilitate discussion and as a means to help separate the wheat from the chaff without having to resort to brief "+1 agree" posts. This would be very useful on the Missions and Ships and Modules forums at a minimum.
Being able to search for keywords for posts with a certain number of Agrees would also be spiffy.
BattleClinic's ranking of ship fittings would be an example of how like/dislike could help with managing data/post/information quality.
Obviously, there's some wiggle room as to what buttons would be acceptable. |
