The volunteer team has been involved with EVE since the early days of Beta 2. The team has evolved, changed, expanded and now contracted. With the exception of a brief stint with a different game company, I have been involved with the vol team in one fashion or another for around 5 years. Some of the volunteers have gone on to work in the MMO industry, not only for CCP but other companies in the genre. There have been some trials and tribulations, but those pale in comparison to the camaraderie and community that is the ISD team.
As EVE has grown, so has her community and the need to support both program and players. Changes need to occur, we can either accept those changes and grow, or reject them and stagnate. A recent evaluation of the volunteer team showed us some changes that needed to be made, and the following dev blog announces the changes that will impact the five groups that make up the volunteer team. Two teams will eventually be closed, the other three will have a strengthening of their roles.
If any of the volunteers have had a positive impact on your EVE experience, please join me in a hearty "Thank you!" for all they have done. It has been an honor and a privilege to be affiliated with this wonderful group.

It has been an honour and a pleasure to serve within CRC for the last 6 months.
As a volunteer for CCP I have always tried (probably not always succeeded) in making the forums a more friendly place for the majority of visitors.
Many thanks to Kieron for the opportunity to serve and to all the wonderful guys and girls in CRC who made the job a pleasure.
So long, CRC - it was a great time
Love and kisses

I've been with CCP Games for over 6 Years now from Alpha/Beta/Release and its a very sad day that Aurora has been laid to rest. I have met a lot of wonderful people through this process and would do it all over again given the chance.
I just hope CCP dosent regret this decision...

What a range of emotions. As a player sometimes you always want to try and give something back to the community that has been there for you. So, when I thought about the forums, since like a good portion of the community used them, being a moderator made sense.
The Vols of the moderation team have taken more then enough heat over the past few months and I would do it all over again with this team.
We may have started a players from a collection of Corps/Alliances, but in the end....
We were CRC and ISD, Corp/Alliance.
Been fun and I will miss you all.

I want to thank CCP and ISD for letting us bring EVE alive. I want to thank the players for running along with our wild ideas, making our events come alive and be fun. We could never have done it without you. And to my friends in Aurora, I'll miss you.
This best sums my feelings of my time in Aurora:
We are the music-makers, And we are the dreamers of dreams, Wandering by lone sea-breakers, And sitting by desolate streams; World-losers and world-forsakers, On whom the pale moon gleams: Yet we are the movers and shakers Of the world for ever, it seems.
With wonderful deathless ditties We build up the world's great cities, And out of a fabulous story We fashion an empire's glory: One man with a dream, at pleasure, Shall go forth and conquer a crown; And three with a new song's measure Can trample an empire down.
We, in the ages lying In the buried past of the earth, Built Nineveh with our sighing, And Babel itself with our mirth; And o'erthrew them with prophesying To the old of the new world's worth; For each age is a dream that is dying, Or one that is coming to birth.
Ode - Arthur O'Shaughnessy

Ladies and gents, it's been an honour.
For me personally, the last 12 months have been a blast and the experiences I've had acting in and producing events has been one I'll remember for a long time. From strange deaths, through raids and outright battles to demonstrations, I've enjoyed every minute of it.
Thanks to the players who've taken part, Galen and the leads and of course my friends in Aurora. For now, see you perhaps sometime in the future, maybe with another hat on

I have been a volunteer for over two years and have met some truly dedicated people in that time.
Through all the patch days, threadnaughts, isk sellers down to the day-to-day board banter the moderator's job will always be appreciated but never liked.
To all those I have worked with and choose to leave, go with the fondest memories of being a group of people that gave, in some cases, thousands of man hours to help other people and CCP as a company progress.
Your integrity and selflessness does you great credit.
To all those that choose to stay, let us continue the high standards set by the majority of those that went before us.

I just wanted to post here with my respects for Aurora as well as CRC. I've been in ISD for almost 2 years, and I have to say that Being a part of this group of like-minded people, devoted to giving the players of EVE the best playing experience possible has truly been an honor.
I've butted heads with people in Aurora as well as CRC, I recall having my player char's sig being nerfed (unknowing that it was me of course) by a CRC and to this day I have not let him live it down (Plus I follow the rules now :P)
Aurora was the brunt of many jokes but these guys, well there's just no words to describe what they did for the community. Spending time developing arcs, advancing the storyline, these are the kinds of things that in most other companies they have an entire team of paid employees to handle for them.
The Reason I joined ISD was actually because of an Aurora member on SiSi telling me all about it.
Aurora and CRC will be missed, STAR, BH and IC will still be around, and you can bet that we'll be just as devoted as ever to brining the players of EVE the best experience we can offer. -----------

/me fluffles my friends in CRC and ISD, they have to be THE MOST dedicated group of eve fans ever. Many will never understand the amount of work some of these people have done, and they never ask for thanks, recognition or rewards.
They are the foundation to the community and the impact of them leaving i feel will not be felt until its too late.
There has been more good times in CRC than i could possibly remember and they have got the community through good and bad times, and they have got me through good and bad times. Again never asking for thanks or anything in return. I hope i can keep in contact with them all because these are exceptional people.

Only been in Aurora for more than a year or so but it was the best quality time in Eve by a long shot. Sometimes even falling off my chair laughing. (Actually liked armageddon day as well btw.) CCP gave us the unique opportunity to devote our time to Eve helping out making the game more special. Even if this meant spending hours preparing for an event that only runs 5 minutes because players liked their pew pew a little too soon. *shakes fist*
So don't underestimate the hours ISD has put in. If they put that time into veld mining they'd make Chribba very happy. Massive respect for this. Even though we all couldn't create lag in an empty sytem if we really wanted to.
I guess everyone saw this was coming. But it's gonna be even better. CCP owe us.
I'll certainly miss the pointless chats on IRC/TS. I'll certainly miss the 'what is this blue text about?' questions in local. It was not blue! It was teal!

A big "Thanks!" goes to the members, too. Many of you emailed us when we missed things, and now and then we got a heartfelt "thank you" which really brightened our day, even more so than the hundreds of male enlargement drug advertisements that somehow flooded our inboxes every day.

Many of us joined for a single reason: to give back to a community that gave us something. To all of ISD, it has been a pleasure and an honor. To AURORA and my fellow CRC, we have done our jobs, we have helped shape this community, and now it is time to step out of our roles - roles some of us have held for quite some time - and let things progress. To the community - it has been a fun ride from threadnaughts to hijacks. I'll miss this.

Thank you Nebulai and Galen for trusting and believing in me. You made my stride possible and you helped me grow and more importantly - made it possible for me to help others grow. It's been a pleasure serving you. I bow to you.
It has been a pleasure sharing part of my life with you brethren Aurorians. We have had a wonderful time together and we have held our heads high, although the tidal waves have swept in almost drowning us.
We have done things I couldn't imagine possible. We have outperformed ourselves over and over. We've given life to New Eden that unfortunately will not return in the forseeable future.
I bow to you my old and new friends within Aurora. We might be enemies ingame with our main characters, but out of game in our communication channels we have been one. We have been standing united against everything and everyone and we have come out stronger each and every time. Our bond is strong, our morale has never swayed, our passion and loyalty is neverending. We are Aurora.
To the rest of ISD I wanna say "thank you". It's been a pleasure getting to know you and working alongside you. All my love to you.

Much love to Aurora and CRC for all the great work they've done over the years.
It's been a real pleasure working with you guys, and one I hope continues in some way or another for many years to come.
To Aurora in particular I just wanted to say:
All those events, all those stories you've created...they'll live on in the minds of the players and their characters, being recalled fondly and being used to build upon and influence their characters.
Don't think you have been killed.
What you guys have created will live on until the day the servers close and even longer.
All that hard work you put in to making great stories...these things simply don't vanish overnight. Remember that. In what you've created, there truly is something to be proud of, and something that will last.
The Aurora legacy will not be forgotten. |

Secondly, a few personal mentions to corps i worked with... Firstly, PIE. Inc, Mordus Angels, and no doubt a few Pirates.... You guys were great when taking part in my events, even if you didnt know about it ;)
And Lastly, Aurora itself. Never have i met such a team that is both mad, yet brilliant. Joining this wonderful programme is deffo one of the better choices i made over the last year and a half, and given the chance, i would do it all over again.

There's much I could say right now. I have been with AURORA for over a year and a half. In that time I was able to take part in something larger and better than I ever imagined. Some of my favorite moments were seeing the reaction of players after an event, as well at meeting players in real life at Gencon Indy 06/07 and GDC. I've never worked with such a talented group of people before, and I am sad that it has come to an end. Everyone in AURORA and ISD in general have been terrific to work with, and I'd especially like to thank Tanis and Gabriel for helping me when I was a new recruit, Galen and Nebulai for accepting me into the program in the first place, and you the players for allowing my work to be a part of your experience in EVE. I hope that it has been as fulfilling for you as it has been for me.

Secondly, a few personal mentions to corps i worked with... Firstly, PIE. Inc, Mordus Angels, and no doubt a few Pirates.... You guys were great when taking part in my events, even if you didnt know about it ;)And Lastly, Aurora itself. Never have i met such a team that is both mad, yet brilliant. Joining this wonderful programme is deffo one of the better choices i made over the last year and a half, and given the chance, i would do it all over again.
Farewell Friends, im sure i will see you around somewhere in the universe.... ;)
Long Live the Legion...i mean, Memories!!!
The Legion, pfft what a bunch of pansy boys, all glory to the Nation
As my esteemed colleague stated, major props to the player community, without you our work would have been impossible.

Well, I am pretty disappointed that AURORA is being shut down as an event-running entity. For those wondering about current arcs, the people running them are being offered the chance to continue them and tie up the loose ends. So don't worry about that too much.
We ran events because we really loved adding to the fiction in EVE. From something as small as having the Amarr Navy interacting with smut peddlers in Amarr to having something 100+ CVA/PIE/VV/AM/other Amarr loyalists escorting my pompous Amarr Holders from low sec to high sec when I had no intention of having anyone attack them (PS... YOU GUYS HELPED THE EVIL[er] HOLDER WIN!) to watching a station constantly respawn after being blown up and lucky getting the Caldari Navy to chase you guys off before it respawned YET AGAIN. It was all fun and I will truly miss adding that sort of depth and immersion to the game.
Hopefully, in the future, we'll be able to bring you these sorts of events again. Your kind words are greatly appreciated, none-the-less.

I've only been in Aurora for about 6 months now, but that time has been fantastic for me. My heartfelt thanks go out to:
All the actors with whom I've had so many amusing and entertaining in-game, in-character interactions...
All the producers who take the time and effort to create deep, detailed, twisted, intriguing plot arcs...
All the senior producers who gave me mentoring, feedback, inspiration, and guidance when it was time to start creating my own events...
All the leads who suffered graciously through my innumerable mis-steps and questions...
Our esteemed Vice Admiral Galen, who spent incredible amounts of time setting up all of the characters, ships, and equipment such that we could interact with players in all sorts fo new and interesting ways...
And last but not least, to all of the players who interacted with us. We did everything for you guys, and it was very gratifying to see the kind of response we got from the people whom we touched over the course of our events.
In general, I think that the events team brought something unique and interesting to EVE that is unparalleled in the MMO world. It allowed players to interact with the setting on a much deeper level, and allowed players the opportunity to actually shape their surroundings in subtle yet sometimes surprisingly lasting ways. I'm proud to have been a part of that.
To all of my other ISD homies, I loved all of the inane chatter in IRC, all of the goofy stories, all of the strutting, chest-beating discussions about which division of ISD >>> all, the thought-provoking idea sessions, and hte opportunity to make friends with cool people from all over the world who share both a love and a vision for the world of EVE. You will all be sorely missed.
It's been a great ride, and I'm glad I was able to take part in it. Plus also, GALEN FOR EMPEROR!

Thank you to each and every one of my colleagues in the [CRC], I've learned a lot in my time with the team, and stayed up far too late on far too many nights keeping the community's forums from imploding, Thank you to the guys in Aurora who've put in the effort to keep producing events, and Thank you to everyone who's posted, spammed, whined, discussed, bought, sold, traded, trolled, and ranted on the forums.

There's one other thing I'd like to add. I've been privileged to be a member of the CRC squad responsible for moderating the roleplay forums (Intergalactic Summit and Corporations and Alliances Summit), reporting to Eshtir (O Captain my Captain!) and learning from Timmeh.
This goes out to the RP crowd: It has been my great honor to be put in a position of managing the forums you pour so much energy and vitality into. You guys made me laugh, spew coffee (and beer), and once or twice even got me misty-eyed.
In a game that doesn't tend to respect RP as much as it should, you do amazing stuff that is always entertaining and engaging.
I salute every one of you who bring such a fun aspect of background and immersion to this game, and thank you for a great time.

About one and a half years ago i applied to Aurora. After i got accepted and got thrown into the pit that was called Aurora i did not know what to expect. What i experienced in there was something i could not have imagined. The people involved in Aurora and for that matter ISD, were something so unique one could not know unless having experienced by themselves.
I take with me my memories about the fun we had in the channels. The immense fun i had when acting and even more when producing. I take with me the memories about the players who interacted in my events and the compliments given afterwards. ThatÆs what we did it for. To enhance your game experience.
Despite the fact that the closure of Aurora saddens me dearly I still like to show my gratitude towards CCP. After all, they did provide us with the sand we needed to build our little castles. I thank all ISD as they are really a great bunch of people and nothing but respect to everyone who was there to help make EVE better. I know it hasnÆt been easy sometimes.
A special thanks to Nebulai and Galen. My fellow captains and the devÆs I have had the pleasure to work with.
Respect!

This truly has been quite a ride in the past several months, although I haven't been around to see some of the more insane forum malfunctions. I have seen enough to know that what we have become a part of, is more than a group of people performing a duty. We have found ourselves in more than a couple difficult situations but have always managed to come through with some amount of grace and dignity (at least as much as we went into it with.)
Originally by: Takahashi Arran Its disheartening how even in being fired the moderators are allowed to post nothing but thanks for the great times rather then having opinions themselves about whether this is a good idea or not. (well atleast on these forums. several have made their views very clear elsewhere)
I really feel bad about this, we do have opinions about this change, and it's not that we're excluding our thoughts about the changes happening but that we're posting what we feel is right at the moment. I personally have not met a more insanely wonderful group of people, the likes of which have posted a *snip* or a *click* on the forums here. We did this "job" not because of a desire to talk to Dev's or GM's, we did it out of a desire to help a great community of people, and improve a game that we enjoy.
Over the past 6 months or so, I have seen IA interventions, threadnoughts, and days where more than a couple mods forgot to take 2 of the yellow pills and 1 of the blue. Even a few moments where I was nearly ripping my hair out in frustration, but even with the hardships I wouldn't trade this experience for the world. We started out as players, then became volunteers, followed by forum moderators/event participants, then somehow evolved into a brotherhood. To my brothers (and sisters) who have given your time and effort to making this game what it is today... I salute you.
/me silently stands at attention saluting through the rain and toward the dawning sun.
Please refrain from sniffling on the forums, it disturbs the other posters. -Darth Patches

I have worked very closely with AURORA since I started here and before that I used to be in AURORA so I am very sad at this news. Both teams have done an amazing job, giving up their spare time to support, improve and immerse people in EVE Online.
Its a tough job doing events, its hard work, EVE fiction is so deep that it requires extensive knowledge to work within it to any realistic degree. But when players are immersed in a story and run with it, then its very rewarding.
But this is not the end people, we have a dream!

Having started off as a bughunter about 3 and a half years ago, I have seen many changes to ISD both as a bughunter, and in working with various ISD teams as a member of QA. TIt saddens me to see people I have come to know in that time have to go through this transition.
That said, in the last 2 years since I have joined CCP, I have watched the company grow from 45 people to around 230, and the peak players change from around 15,000 to well over 34,000. Through it all, the volunteer teams have changed little. I consider it inevitable that a reorganisation should occur.
To all you fine people in ISD, past present and future, you have my gratitude and respect for the time you have given to EVE.

How do you start a post like this?
It's been a true privilage to be a member of the AURORA team. I've learned a huge ammount about RP and how to do it well, both from my friends in the team and from experience with you the players.
I want to thank all of the players who've interacted with us in the events that we run for you. No matter what the outcome of the event it was the interaction with you that made it work.
I want to thank all of the people in AURORA for their support and encouragement when I first joined over a year ago now. The producers for comming up with fantastic arcs and events and my fellow actors for all the fun in IRC. Special mentions go to Nebulai and Galen for their tireless efforts on behalf of the team.
I'd like to thank the other teams in ISD for their efforts that helpped bring the game forward for everyone.
Finally I'd like to thank CCP for running the volunteer program.

TBH almost all of us disagree and think it's a bad move.
The problem is the discussion is done already, CRC will be going away. Coming here and posting about how much we disagree isn't going to matter.
Every day I've gotten home from work, sat down at this computer and opened IRC and always been greeted by friends. This change meant that my friends and I won't be able to do what we wanted to do when we signed up for CRC, help the forums. That hurts. 50 posts about how much this sucks won't do anything, taking the chance to say our goodbyes and wish everyone well is the most useful thing we can do.
Or if you want I can post "this sucks" 50 times in a massive quote pyramid?

Well... itÆs been fun.
EVE has been a huge part of my life ever since I signed up for my 14 day trial over two years ago. As the game began to wind down for me I heard about ISD and the plans for factional warfare on the horizon. I just knew I had to get in on that.
So after months of waiting on paperwork to be approved, and weeks of learning the ins and outs of being an event actor through our training program, It was actually a year ago this Monday, August 20th that I took part in my very first event.
It was a small role with very little acting involved, but through the player support in that event my producer was able to turn it into a full blown arc culminating in the testing of an experimental jump drive that went oh so wrong, scattering the test pilots to the ends of the universe.
I probably would never have stuck with EVE as long as I have if it wasn't for the sheer excitement of the events and kooky and always unpredictable things players did which helped us drive them forward.
So rather than cry and whine about not being able to do events in an official capacity anymore, I would first and foremost like to thank youthe players.
Events could not (and sometimes didn't) happen without you all. Every time I got online an hour in advance to get briefed on the characters and their motivations for the upcoming event, I would find myself with a stupid grin plastered on my face wondering what you would throw our way next.
Once again, thanks to all the players who participated in our events. It's been great flying with you (and even sometimes against you). Its you all that make the game what it is, not us. I hope many of you will take it on yourselves to try and enrich the universe with enjoyable events in our absence.
Oh darn... I don't have a sig. Might as well hijack one.

Reading all the comments here made me realise something. I like you all to remember that it was not just Aurora, nore just CRC or any other ISD department that made it all happen.
The Roleplay in EVE is done by YOU! We just helped a bit here and there. Yes, we did have a blast providing stories to interact with, but in the end it was you who did the roleplay.
So i wonder, why stop? Ok, we will not be around anymore to present you our crazy idea's and such, but you could do it yourself.
I hereby call to the entire playerbase who care for Roleplay to keep going. Spam the forums with RP stories, create characters who just spam local with tales and stories and bring EVE to life! It would honour us all the most, if the RP continues... please, do not stop the roleplay.

This is the first and only post I will ever make on this forum.
I met a group of amazing people in my short time at Aurora. From the first second I talked to them it was clear this was a group of incredibly clever, intelligent people. I feel CCP is making a mistake by letting so much talent go. There is very little in the way of details for anyone as to the future of events and forum moderation. I think I would speak for most or all of Aurora when I say we'd feel a lot better knowing there was a solid plan for the future of our work.
I'm astounded by the quality of people the program has attracted, and the quality of work they put out. Truly an honor and a privilege to have been able to act with such a wonderful group.
Thanks to Aurora. Actors, producers, and leads. Thanks to Galen for heading up this wonderful division.

It is a sad day. Do not be misled into thinking that we all leave with joyous hearts and harmonious hymns. An immense amount of work was done by our teams. Thousands of hours of toil and labor to bring to fruition the very tools and resources we used to fulfill our charters. But all things change.
To you guys in aurora, we were the best that ever was, and probably ever will be.
For the legacy

Originally by: Dylan Thomas Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right, Because their words had forked no lightning they Do not go gentle into that good night.
Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight, And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way, Do not go gentle into that good night.
Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be ***, Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
And you, my father, there on the sad height, Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray. Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
For me, I have found a new light and a new home in ISD.
To those who have chosen to move on, I will miss you. I am thankful for every second spent with each of you.
Let us move forward with nothing but fondness in our hearts for the time behind us and hope for what lies ahead as we strive to realise our dreams.
It has been a privilege and an honour to serve you as part of CRC.
Onwards...

Observable bias?
Do you still dont get that we are watched closely by CCP? You really can stop to accuse my team of being biased. You either have proof and forward it to the internal affairs department or you dont.

So, will people be given a fresh start with an unbiased and accountable moderation team?
Accountable? We are fully accountable for our actions, with actions taken against our player accounts if we screw up. Like Eshtir said, you have proof or you dont. Stop posting crap (that's me being polite) ___

Every action we take as moderators on our volunteer accounts is trackable and we are held to account for our actions. I wouldn't be surprised if CCP keeps an eye on our main player accounts as well.
As volunteers we don't always catch everything, and as humans, we're not perfect, but bias? No.
If you believe there is evidence of malfeasance by a forum moderator or moderators, you should email [email protected] so they can investigate it.

Do you realize we always consulted with our forum moderator peers before we did things? In those channels were GMs, leads from other division and our own leads.
If you think there was any bias you could have always email [email protected], but apparently you would rather come to the forums and whine about no-existant bias.

Nope, they can't mod any thread involving their main's alliance or corp. If they do the lead/senior moderators find out and the mod in question either gets a really good spanking or gets kicked out of CRC.
-- Regardless, this is the end of the line for such questions. This isn't the place to discuss CRC policies. If you have questions, email us [email protected] ___
