Good to hear the forum won't be closed, but I do have a few questions regarding how or why this announcement was made;
Originally by: CCP Kieron This announcement and the removal of the ability to create new posts in the Market channels were both premature.
How exactly can the announcement be premature? CCP Wrangler stated the following:
Originally by: CCP Wrangler With the contract system and market in game we have decided to close down the trading forums.
The only way you can call it premature would be if the contract system would receive a massive overhaul within a short period of time. Is this the case? If this isn't the case wouldn't it be a better choice of words saying CCP made a big boo boo?
Originally by: CCP Kieron While the Market forums will eventually be closed, this action will not be taken until the in-game market and contract systems have been made more robust and useful.
Euhm? One of the advantages of using a forum is that it's out of game. Unless you make the contract system in such a way that it follows the following guidelines you SHOULD NOT remove the trade forums;
-Being able of doing bids out of game and in game from all over the universe, so you can check prices and bid while at work without an Eve client or while camping your favorite .0 system.
-Being able of selling everything from all goods (including officer loot, mother ships etc.), services, forum signatures, killboards to IGB ****.
-Being able of searching through all past auctions so you have a good price indication of what something is worth.
-Have a decent bidding mechanism, allow to see the exact time an auction ends, allow bidding while the server is down, allow the seller to adjust end time incase a server screw up, allow you to set a proper bid increase and allow you to set a proper sniper rule.
-Being able of getting references for items/services requiring trust (eg. someone making sigs can have people posting in his auction to show that the seller delivers good sigs).
All these changes would just make the ingame contracting system exactly the same as the current sell order forum currently is, requiring just as much moderation as the current board.
Now onto the following questions if there is any connection with ISD's removal.
Currently the sales forum is the biggest forum in terms of posts on these boards, hence the suspicion is rather easily raised that the removal of CCP's cheap labor (namely ISD which is guided by a few CCP employees instead of having a fulltime mod squad on the pay roll) had anything to do with the announcement of the removal of the most used forum. Is this correct? If not, don't you agree it was a horrid timing of both posts?
Also in CCP Kieron's blog about the removal of ISD he amongst other stated the following;
Originally by: CCP Kieron We hope that the EVE community will understand and support us through these changes, recognizing the overall goal is to support our players in the best manner possible.
That was posted like 8 hours after the announcement of the sales forum being removed. So you were aware that the forum would be removed. How come you could call this supporting our players in the best manner possible?
Also if this blog was premature, as in posted to soon (which is the definition of premature) how come it took more then 12 hours to figure it out?
