Yet another dishonored 1v1.
Siren boldly make the statement he could take any battleship on with his myrmidon, and accepted my challenge in this thread:
http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=496836&page=9
We agree'd to a few rules: '*Use of damps but not ecm. *Duel is for 250 mil buyin each, winner takes 500mil. *Happens in high sec at a safespot *Although you do not need a warp disruptor, fight should stay within domi disruptor range to make it more realistic. *is to the death, however long this takes. *no spectators, but definately allowed to fraps.'
Seconds after saying 'go' i desynched, server has been playing up for me lately. I return and he has warped off.. he returns and we start again at the same range, I get to within 5km range and unleash my 4x large smartbombs on his drones + ship and desynch again.
We start again at 5km and this time the lag disapears, timing my cap charges to be completely used by my double web, dual armor reps or large smartbombs i destroy his cap and slowly kill his tank with my hammerhead IIs. At 5% structure he warps to the station and closes his client, upon reboot he claims to have had a desynch of his own but the ship does not warp back to the safespot which shows it was actually him fleeing.
He then calls the duel void and refuses to pay up the 250mil or the faction web he has fit to his myrmidon. He claims that somehow the desynch's helped my cap to a level in which he would have won without that 10% gain. (how was 10% cap going to save your 5 heavy drones from 4 large smartbombs?).
Fine i said, you go buy new drones and we'll restart same fit to which he replied
'no thanks' 'I'm backing out of this'
I'm now out of pocket for the ship i assembled to accept your duel, will call it even for the 250mil and you can keep the ship but doubt you will keep your word.

The setups used in this fight were:
Hyperion: 1 x large neut, 2x large nos, 1x medium nos 4 x large smartbomb. 100mn mwd, sensor booster, 2x web. 2x large rep, 1x dcu II, 2 x eanm, 2x 1600 plate.
v
Myrmidon: 4 x medium nos, 2x small blasters. cap booster, faction web, web, mwd, unknown. 2x rep, hardeners.
5x ogre II.
Utterly outclassed of course, but well within the rules of the fight. Really should have used a 3rd party to hold the isk, but didnt think a MM would destroy his reputation for 250mil isk.

A couple of points in defense.
The duel should have been invalidated after the first warp-out. One cannot restart a 1v1 fight that gets interrupted halfway. I was under the impression that you had logged to cancel the duel, and warped out of the SS. I cannot begin to confirm that you warped back to the SS upon log-in, but I can confirm that you were scooping drones expertly during the fight. I can confirm, too, that we were cap stable between our nos before your desync, and no longer cap stable after you came back in.
I accepted the duel in the spirit of just that: a duel. An honorable fight, comparing damage, tank and nos, one against one to the death. You knew in advance what ship I would fit: a Myrmidon. My clause was that you would not fly the battleship version of my ship: the Dominix. The spirit of the terms was such that it would be the Myrmidon against whatever battleship you would care to bring, and would be a test of skill, both player skill and SP skill, with a 250 mill wager to make the battle more interesting.
Instead, you chose to fit a smartbombing Hyperion to hard-counter my entire drone rack, a ship that would net you an easy win. Your primary interest was not to engage in a duel, but to click smartbombs, laugh, and collect a profit. That your main complaint about this fight is about being out 250 mill isk and a faction web shows what you really were looking for.
The faction web, by the way, a Shadow Serpentis stasis webifier, isn't even on my ship: it's sitting in Jita. why would I bring a Domination web (killed by TRI a few days ago, btw) to kill a battleship?)
I did warp out of the fight. I did not violate the duel, because a duel never happened. Only a dishonorable opportunist, looking for easy isk, and banking on my honor about the terms of the 'duel' to get one.
If you really want a duel, put some blasters on that Hyperion. Augment it with Nos, and maybe a neut. Try to break my tank while we nos each other, killing my drones with yours as I'm trying to scoop them. Hitting cap boosters on both sides to support our tanks. If you can destroy me under those conditions, I would gladly hand over 250 mill.
Unfortunately, judging by the way you play, it looks like I'll have to wait for Curzon to get back to me before that can happen.

All 1 vs 1 should be honored to the end. Verbal agreements must be kept to the end.
If there is lag or someone leaves and comes back, then have yourself fully repaired / fixed up and start from zero again.
Coming back in means intend to honor, leaving means intending to dishonor. |

yes and no... i agree that in the event of a desyc/CTD one should be allowed to dock refit as necessary and restart the fight (perhaps changing the fight completely yes, but being fair).
in this particular case i would have also warped out... this fight lacked a few provisions and should have been referree'd (dunno spelling)
anyway.. just my 2 cents

it takes me close to a minute to blow all my hyperionÆs cap, during this time your 4x medium nos will be stealing a fair amount. Once that buffer is gone your nos will stop working as I purposely cap myself out. IÆm sorry that you fail to have an understanding of game mechanics.

There was nothing in the our agreed rules to show that I had to fit blasters, of course I am going to fit the counter to your ship.. you obviously want someone to undock with a ship that yours counters. How could you fail to anticipate large smartbombs? I thought you would be smart enough to bring sentrys.

Yes my primary reason for accepting the duel was to take your isk, if you want a 1v1 æhonourableÆ duel where both ships use the same mods and you roll a dice to see who wins totally eliminating any fitting strategy from the fight then you duel on Sisi. By making it for isk, you make the fight serious! Who wont use the fittings to give the best chance of success in a duel for as much isk as your wallet has?
Quote:

Throw it anyway you want, you showed up to a duel to which the rules were obeyed until it was obvious you had lost (99% of damage stripped from you) then you dishonoured it.

I use the best tools for the job within the rules, He made a wager saying his myrm will 'challenge anything you'd like to bring',well i chose to bring a smartbombing nos ship.
If the desynchs are really the reason he wont honor his 1v1, then i once again extend my offer for a 1v1 void of disconnects with the exact same setups.. guess why he wont accept that?

EDIT: To clarify, Mime logged without warning Siren, first. Secondly, Mime logged after inflicting damage to Siren's drones with smartbombs, which Siren never had the chance to repair or replace in between, thus restarting the fight with his drones already damaged/destroyed. The fight was not fair as a result. As such, Mime is being purely hypocritical at this juncture.
Wrong, Siren warped to station to repair his overloaded webified and drones at this point. Should be also noted you have no idea how 1 flight of heavy drones survive v 4 smartbombs. They last a maximum of 3 smartbomb cycles regardless of scoop>deploy. Refer to my previous post for why i think this desynch issue is total ballony, if it were the real issue he'd be willing to 1v1 with the same setups.

So let me get this straight, Mime logs/desyncs twice, yet Siren seems to have no problem continuing the duel until he is about to lose and then he calls it void? And to cry about his setup, what did you expect? Sounds like you're just upset that someone outsmarted you, not that what he did was really that hard to think up.

Edited by: Siren Sylvanis on 22/08/2007 11:51:41 Technically, the desync invalidated the duel the first time it happened. But my real complaint is with your specific setup, and the tactics you chose to use, entirely in violation of the spirit of a 1v1. "Using the best tools for the job" is the same mentality that nanoed up ships, blobs gates with 10+ to take on single ships, and launched remote Doomsdays at fleets to wipe them in a blink to end the classic slugfest. I thought that I would be able to escape that kind of mentality in a 1v1 challenge. I thought wrong.
I give my thanks to those who supported me, and to those who didn't, I feel no resentment and I understand your arguments. In the end, the isk sits in my wallet, and it's my decision to pay.
Mime, save your cries for a rematch. If you legitimately wanted a rematch and a fight, you would not have tried to ask me for 150 mill in exchange for my Myrmidon left intact. The logs are saved, believe me.
Your offer ****ed me off so much that I decided to continue, just to see if I could stomp you. I couldn't, so I left the fight.
Fit your ship the way you would when roaming or in a gang, and we may talk.
I have no sympathy for you if you feel cheated out of 250 mill. I feel cheated of a duel. --- What doesn't manage to kill you... has made a tactical error.

My warps were due to CCP's dodgy servers, his was due to his admitted dishonoring of the duel. If you can follow simple logic, what possible benefit would a 20k armor, double rep tanked hyperion get from crashing to desktop when up against 2 small blasters? I've addressed this straw man argument twice in the posts above me so please stop using it.
This will be my last post in this thread as i think i have stated my argument to my satisfaction. Who's the bigger fool, the guy who dishonors a duel or the guy who doesn't fit a warp scrambler when squashing the braggart? :).

I made it very clear that my intention was to gain the most possible isk out of the duel with my initial statement of 'Sounds like an easy 250 mil :)' in curzon's thread. You got the reference wrong by the way, it was 150 mil + ejected myrmidon instead of 250 mil.
You really are a lousy duelist, you use the exact same setup you have lost 20-40 times on your own killboards and expect your enemy to come with a fit which doesn't counter it? Basically, you didn't win and are calling foul on my selection of mods.. which you did not out-rule in our previous discussion. In summary: Your word = worthless.

Honestly how can you be mad at Siren for leaving that duel?
And usually "Eve's dodgy servers" should effect you both no? I've also never had 2 disconnects in a row followed by 100% server stability. It was probably your connection.
Siren should've stated though that he/she had no intent to let her ship die after your two disconnects. Also, their should've been a ref their (Could give him warp scramblers too XD, keep both you people in place)
and countering siren's ship is kind of lame too :(

First off, both of you are jerks. You duel in non-inhabited systems so lag doesn't play a factor.
Secondly, a 1vs1 or a tournament without warp scramblers fitted doesn't make sense. A realistic fit will have one midslot less for a scram / distruptor. It also makes it kindof impossible to dishonour the duel, since you're not bloody moving anywhere while warp scrambled ;)
Third, if that kind of cash is in question, then a trusted referee makes sense.

If Siren is guilty of anything, it's taking a sucker bet.
Given the information provided in this thread, it seems to me that both parties have things to be ashamed of and I don't see see either as the lily-white paragon of e-honor.
If anything, it doesn't sound to me that the agreed-upon "duel" occurred. What occured was a series of...err..."desyncs" and warp-outs.
If both parties are truly interested in a "duel," the equitable thing to do, would be to try again. Re-work the rules (because they are lacking), get a judge/referee, and find a relatively quiet place where three people can carry out this incredible test of manhood and e-honor.

This is stupid. From my understanding this so called "desynch" happens when the server is having issues keeping track of the number of clients logged on to that specific node. This constant blame on desynch is ******** and it does not cause log off and/or warp off. I have dealt with it once and I never crashed or anything like that. Mr. Laughing Mime warped off. That right there voided this contest. PERIOD. I was listening to Siren durring this fight and he was commentating on the whole thing. After the warp off and the "fight" stated again Siren noticed that the his cap was being drained more then before when before he was holding cap just fine. That means Mr. Laughing Mime in my mind went off and made some changes with out communicating that to Siren. This fight ended with the warp off and it either should have been renegotiated or ended right there. The only thing Siren did wrong was continue to fight, but he wanted to give Mr. Laughing Mime the benefit of the doubt. My question to Mr. Laughing Mime is why wasnt there a none bias referee holding the money and keeping the rules in check?? Your fight was bunck from the start.

Lemme weigh in here:
1. You two asked for a 1v1 in MY thread without the use of a referee. I have no sympathy for either of you.
2. Siren, complaining about his setup is weak. If you want a 1v1, be prepared to deal with anything, and suck it up if you lose. I lost my last 1v1 in about 10 seconds because my setup wasn't compatible to what my opponent had fitted.
3. Laughing Mime, you warped out first. I don't care why, you did. Its a 1v1 and you warped out. After that, you guys...started again? And you warped out again? Then started again? At this point, you've lost the fight twice.
Sorry, I don't feel that you have any ground to stand on. Its cheap that Siren whines about your setup, but he won the fight. What's to say you didn't dock and refit a couple times? I'm not saying that you did, but you left the fight.

Hold up. From what I gather, this thread was started to even out a perceived imbalance resulting from this half-assed duel.
But.
Duel happens, both parties are displeased with the result.
One player's bragging is refuted when he nearly loses his ship. He takes a second hit to his reputation by way of public humiliation by the other player.
The second player doesn't get to collect on the ISK and mods he was hoping for, and takes a hit to his own reputation by posting his complaints and appearing as a greedy lamer.
That's two hits against each player. A net loss for both players, yes, but it is important to note that neither player came out better or worse off than the other. Matter settled, lesson learned, run along now. ---

Yeah building a winning setup is stupid. You should only use cookie cutter setups that everyone else uses.
Preparation is one of the most important things in any duel.

Mime and I were the only two in local. There was a bit during the fight when there was 1 other player in local, but for the majority of the time, we were alone.
And sorry about hijacking your thread, Curzon. We did move the negotiations to evemail once it was clear Mime wasn't joking. --- What doesn't manage to kill you... has made a tactical error.

It is possable to use a turret set-up and not be cookie cutter.
a winning set-up? lol, shure i can bring a machine gun to a pistol duel, i will win yea, but i will also be a coward in the end.

That analogy doesn't really make any sense, from reading the rules the setup Mime used was perfectly 'legit', it might be a 'lame' setup but he was well within the dueling etiquette to use it.

This is the most important piece, IMO.
At a minimum, with a trusted third party, they would have made an unbiased judgment, and either paid the winner or paid back the entrance fees.

I disagree. One of the two ended up with all of the isk...Unless I [quite possibly] missed something.

Ok how about this analogy
Please look up the word RISK, and take some bro.
Maybe it's just me, i like killing peeps the wrong way, not the right way
It's a game, i promise nothing bad will happen to you if you pop, i like the fact that i can kill peeps useing a set-up i thought up, not useing a set-up that i know will allready win, wheres the fun in that?

Well, one of Laughing Mime's complaints is that Siren didn't pay his 250m wager after losing the battle, so that leads me to believe no ISK was transferred between the two. Besides, why would they entrust their wager to another, being the dishonorable scoundrels they are? ---

Ive never had a desynch so far... How do you manage to get desynched twice, in highsec, in a 1v1 fight...? Unless you decided to go shoot something in bloody jita..
I think voiding that fight is fair enough. You warped out twice and she warped out once all due to the same reasons (there is no reason for me to believe that you really desynched twice... for all i know you blew your cap too early and told her you desynced for another chance...
You do want to "keep it realistic" by being with 30km.. but at the same time you fly a ship only a ****** would fly if it was no set up fight...
Seriously, From readin this i think you and not siren are the lame dude :-/

IMHO, I don't see how a Myrm could win against a Hype fit with Smartbombs/Nos. Mime is a very skilled pilot, he knows how to use his ships and I don't see how he could possibly have lost the duel. One of the rules said the fight is to the death, but siren warps out at 5% hull, claims the fight is unfair, and doesn't want to finish the fight? Sounds to me Siren admitted defeat.

Correct me if im wrong here but if u "lagged out" or "desync'd" in the tournament would you get the opportunity to come back and fight??
Now I'm not saying this was the tournament, but sorry dude if u got "lagged" or "desync'd" which forced u to warp then u lose.
I do believe tho that the fight shoulda ended there in which case u wouldnt have paid and the title of this thread woulda been same cept with ur name on it

hmm i see ur thinking here , so because siren warps out that is an admission of defeat and mime wins ?.
I take it you did read the thread and realise that mime had already warped out two times ?
You still wish to claim that warping out is an admission of defeat ?
desynch warping out the ship , thats a new one to me.

This thread is lame, did you really expect someone to be honorable in a 1vs1 without a 3rd party holding the ISK?
The only crime here was you being nieve enough to trust someone over the internet.

I'd hope so, because I forsee quite a bit of it happening at the next tourny, considering the current status of the server.

You "de-synched" twice, and your claims of server troubles are just as valid as his.
I think you should have agreed that if anyone leaves the fight for any reason that the fight would be a default victory for the person who stayed. At the very least a draw.
