To CCP:
Tomorrow on TQ we will have Capital TB (yes only for Rorqual but it's first step). We (poor players) know that you have somewhere in database non capital Tractor Beams other than Small but you don't want to put them into TQ, or even Sisi.
Simple question: Why?
Tractor beams with higher range for non capital class ships will reduce lags a bit (players will grab their wrecks faster) and cans on asteroid fields. If putting Med/Large TB is so hard for you guys, give rights to someone who can do it.

Edited by: TomParad0x on 27/08/2007 15:29:56 I think a med / large tractor beam would be great, it would make looting cans / wrecks a lot less tedious, and to be quite honest, a lot less annoying too.
I normally do not loot missions, because most of the times the cans are 40 - 60KM out (More at times too), and flying there in a Dominix would take to much time. Where as, I could get a small ship (Most likely destroyer) to loot them, its annoying.

/signed. The very reason most of my wrecks remain in their belts/missions is because they are too far away. A better tractor beam would be a nice addition for everyone.

Yep, not mentioning missions like blockade (wrecks are ~120km in few directions). Grabbing them is a pain in ass.
CCP what is cheaper: buying more hardware and still getting petitions 'i lost my ship because of massive lag' or reducing lag a bit by placing better Tractor Beams?. Which option need less money and people resources?

Before tb grab can you will be scrambled from t2 frigates, besides there are many complexes with npc which hitting you from even 120k+ (for example guristas).
But yes you have right in one thing - deadspaces are screw up, but because of many wrecks and lags.

Get a friend in a Cormorant to follow you. You kill, he loots and salvages. Or bookmark the area and loot/salvage after you turned in the mission.
Adding bigger Tractor Beams will not incite more cooperation. Present range is good. The capital TB is good, because the ship is not mobile. But can you fit Cap TB's on dreads/carriers/motherships?

first that cormorant will be popped by npc before he fly to wrecks, second not anybody have serviceman for looting and salvaging for free wrecks on every missions, third cormorant have to small cargo and even if he don't be popped by npc on missions, he must fly few times into mission area to collect all loot/salvge.

(and yes, I _do_ salvage with an alt, in a fairly fast ship (can't go quicker than ~450 or else the cargo cant be opened when trailing). Essentially, you cant go too fast due to bad programming, so why not at least help with the pain by adding the bigger beams? I assume they have larger powergrid requirements anyway, so you'd be putting them on the slower ships (that they are better suited for anyway).

Speaking of tractor beams, why do they need to be engaged until something gets to your ship. Space is a vaccum, no wind drag and resistance. Technically you should be able to activate a beam on anything in space long enough to get it moving twoards your ship and it would naturally keep moving.

I agree with this on every level. I use a coromont with 4 small beams and 4 salvagers to clean up after missions, and it still takes anywhere from 2 to 4 times longer that the actual mission. /signed

Would be cool to have. You would get up to 160 km on Marauders with large tractors. Not to mention large ones would be a lot faster than small ones making loot collection in missions slightly more efficent.

Wouldn't it screw with the market and economy though? As it is, there's a sort of uneasy balance of supply vs demand with modules, but, as an extreme example, if everyone looted, wouldn't the market be flooded with mission loot or minerals from people refining the vast amounts of utter garbage that NPCs drop?
Just a thought.. I'm no economist. On the other hand, it would certainly reduce lag a lot if we could clear all the space-junk that's floating around. Ho-hum. --------------- FMI is recruiting!

heh nub you dont get eve physics. Why do ships have a maximum speed period they would just keep going faster in using real physics. These are game physics to limit things you can do that is why things stop moving after you disengage the tractor beam.
