Indeed

I filed a bug report and got this response:
Thank you for your bugreport - ID:43266 Title: Creative Alchemy, Windows Vista and latest patch (36191) The problem you have described as an intended game feature, and not a bug.
Right. So CCP has disabled the ability to use HW Accelerated audio under Vista now. I understand that the security check for the client is an intended feature but you also disabled an official way (made by Creative) to enable 3D Audio with Creative's audio cards under Vista.
Well I got Vista and totaly fubar audio as well, but no Creative so that would be consitent.
I suspect there QA department dont bother testing with Vista at all. But I'm thinking positive there.
Huge ruddy ball being dropped here when you look at the big Microsoft picture and PR budgets.
Boded bad for the DX10 client and indeed Vista as a whole with regards to this game.
One does ponder how Microsoft would react to this approach to the new OS.
Though there is one logical explanation:
1) they intend a DX9 and seprate DX10 client and already dusting up the current client to be the dedicated DX9 client.
2) Hint of bad communication going on; general lack of proactive announcment of such a wide impacting change (bust my client up before a tournament - gits).
So from that you can see how this has happened. That said
VISTA PATCH PLS K THANKS as I sure dont want to be beta testing a alpha client next year.

Originally by: Gustovness I've seen plenty of people complaining about the splash n' crash but the only ones that have been gettin' any love from the devs about it are those wierdo linux guys. My client, on boot up, shows the splash screen and then displays a black screen where the login should be.
I've seen plenty of people ask about this and no Dev response.
Devs, please gimmie a response.
And yes, I'ved tried reinstalling everything.
I still need a response on this. I see questions being answered that were posted AFTER my question was asked. I don't mind waiting my turn, but I do mind being passed up on my turn :(
The splash screen is displayed, then the login screen comes up completley black. I'm using XP SP2 and I've reinstalled Eve 3 times already.
Long shot, but there is logic in trying it:
1) Reinstall /get latest DX distribution - august 2007 being latest on microsoft site last I looked. Seen it fix games before.
2) Reinstall your graphics card driver - go into safe and remove old one first. Maybe more uptodate driver fixing some issue that eve hit, but always worth a shot.
3) Real long shot but seem weirder - disable sound.
You mention reinstalling eve - did you reinstall again or completely remove eve beofre reinstalling such as the logs directories/cache etc. Try installing in seperate directory/user upon XP. Seperate user be way to sort log storing clash's. Nothing to lose and dont need an active account to get splash screen.
Early days of eve I uses to switch from ATI based system one patch and over to Nvidia the next as one would work/bestable one patch and the next patch it wasn;t but the other was.
TBH there are two types of bugs and I'm sure CCP are aware that a bug that prevents play is in need of more love than a bug that hinders it slightly.
I can live without sound, sort this chaps issue first as although it aint my problem, he does seem to be loosing more blood by far :(.
