I have done Recon LV2 part 1 in a Brutix. Only had to jump out once. 6 x 150 rails iridium 1 med cap boost 800 rolled tungston 1 med aromor rep 5 x medium scout drones (mixed)
parts 2 and 3 no problems

Since doing this mission after my post, I was able to jut head to the gate with little damage to my armor. I just had to remember not to even try the Anihilators and just shoot the small fry's on the way to the gate. The pod suggestion seems good, though I don't know if it would allow it :)

Recon 1/3 (Gurista Pirates) from a Level 4 agent
First Pocket - 4 sets of 3 ships each (~1 minute delayed spawnings) 5x Pith Usurper ($1,218,750 BS) 1x Pith Massacrer ($1,162,500 BS) 1x Dire Pithum Annihilator 1x Dire Pithum Eraser 1x Dire Pithum Nullifier 1x Pithatis Revolter (Cruiser) 2x Dire Pithi Infiltrator (Frig)
This is just laughable now, the first pocket was nerfed to hell. I didn't even need to boost shields at all until the all the BS had spawned. Second pocket appeared to be the same. Loot was subpar, crappy salvage and only a couple 425mm Rails plus a X-Large Shield Booster. Used to have a chance at Arbalest launchers, hope that didn't change.

I did 1/3 vs Serpentis last night in my caracal. All was going well at first but the damned HAC spawns and their 75% (or so) resists means they take forever to die. By the time I killed one of them, the rest of the fleet had spawned and my shield was melting away. I warped off at 2/3 armor.
I grabbed an armor repairer and fixed my ship, and refitted. I droppped my target painter and sensor booster and put in a t2 thermal hardener and t2 kinetic hardener. Then I went back in and kept better range and finished them off no problem. The first time I was just orbiting the accel gate so I could jump out if things got hairy. I guess this let too many of them get in range.
But then I went to the 2nd pocket and immediately started moving away but my shield was melting like butter. Didn't even kill one of them. And without the target painter I didn't want to chance one of the elite frigs scrambling me since my heavy missiles were hardly scratching them.
Now, to put in perspective:
5 x T2 Heavy Missile Launcher 1 x T2 BCU 1 x T1 named Damage Control 1 x T2 thermal shield hardener 1 x T2 kinetic shield hardener 1 x T2 AB 1 x T2 Med Shield Booster
2 x EM Shield rigs 1 x Therm Shield rigs
Yes, 1 med slot was empty due to cpu constraints.
Heavy Missile Spec at L3 **ALL** other relevant missile skills at L5 Caldari Cruiser L4
EDIT: I only used standard heavy missiles (kinetic due to Caracal bonus). I don't use T2 or faction missiles.

I did this mission (lvl2 agent ) on a BC ( Ammar ) before the patch and i could kill anyone easily.
After the patch , it was another story , i could only kill 1-2 ships then when the Arch ... ... ships appeared i went from 50dmg to 5dmg , their rockets would rip my shield and armor like butter ( specially when you got 5 Arch hitting you )
I end quitting the mission and losing 2.5 standing points , after a few missions i got the recon misson again , this time i didnt even bothered killing anyone , just hit afterburns and moved to the gate ( the problem was staying on warp mode at 500m from the game for about 3min - i had 50% of capacitator - still they managed to remove all my shield and 20% of armor with that "joke" )
I started leveling missiles to see if i can at least kill the ships like i used to cos seeing my medium lasers doing 4.5dps or missing like hell at 30km it kinda sucks

In reverse order... For part 3, get a fast frigate like an Executioner (each faction has a fast one), put on an Cold Gas Arcjet and a shield extender; and a small armor repper and a Damage control; no weaps. With reasonable skills you get at least 1km/s so head for the exit asap. Wait to use your repper until you need it - you're limited by slots so no cap booster. This is cheap, about $200K just in case but it's always worked for me and adrenaline is addictive. Same setup works fine for Part 2, then come back in a cruiser for the gank. Haven't tried the frigate yet for the new Part 1 because I like the battle.
Recon Lvl2 Part 1 definitely buffed, but doable vs Sansha in a passive Drake with good skills. Bounties are wonderful and so is the salvage, so it's worth staying for all the killage. I'm curious... how does this updated version compare in gank to a Lvl3 mission?

Edited by: Vasponger on 11/09/2007 06:28:06 yeah i agree it was buffed up way too much, i went in with my caracal expecting to maybe do a mission or 2 before bed. then almost lost my caracal to 4 dire pith(guristas) cruisers in the first room that just sit there and jam you and 6 more in the 2nd. mission took longer than a lvl3 blockade. not saying its a bad mission, i liked the bounties an rewards but leading people on labeling it as a lvl2?

It has definately been buffed up, did it in a caracal with heavies think i lasted about 4 minutes then had to warp. Changed setup and used limos assault lights and seemed to fair better, didnt kill everything in the first room took out the jamming frigates and made a b-line for the gate.

hmmm..is it normal for people to use a BC in a lvl2 missions? maybe this mission is too hard for a lvl2 agent? either make it easier or transfer it to lvl3 mission pool?

Every time I warped back in to try to pick one off, i was jammed, and eventually all of the waves spawned at it was hopeless. I couldn't get range before my tank was utterly overwhelmed and had to warp off. Never having gotten down to structure in a level 2 (even in WC, HC, etc), I was quit ****ed to get down to the last shreds of life 3-4 times. DCII is now my best friend.
Finally, a corp-mate showed up in a drake to tank for me and we picked them off. Multiple 270k bounty cruisers in a level 2 mission. Even one those alone would of given me trouble as my DPS isn't that great when outfitted to survive that onslaught.
I'm sure if I wasn't a noob and had pulled them away from the warp in point ASAP, I could of warn them down, but its totally not worth the time.

I tried this level 2 in my rupture, armor tanking with 800 mm tungsten. It was completely impossible. Emptying 3 720 howitzers and a bunch of heavy missles into one of the cruisers in the mission barely scratched its shields. I tried warping at 50% armor, but died anyway due to lag.
I think the problem is that you're not actually supposed to kill them, you're just supposed to sprint to the gate. That's why it's called 'recon'. My gripe is that the Human Cattle mish, which the agent also describes as a 'recon' mission, requires you to kill everything. There's no good way to tell when a recon mish is a recon mish or actually a kill all mish.

This is lvl2 in the genre of Cargo Delivery and Deadly Arrival and maybe Human Cattle part5. In all of those the agent instructions tell you to do something non-hostile, but unlike most other missions these explicitly DO NOT tell you to eliminate all hostiles. Instructions like that mean that the mission objective will be reached by doing that exact thing and no more, then vamoose! (In Human Cattle you have to fight your way to the room with the fleet, then vamoose without engaging - but all are variations on the theme.) If you have something beefy enough you can stay for the fight.

I ran recon 1/3 lvl4 VS Guristas a few times in the past couple of days, it seems much easier than it used to be. There seems to be only one jamming HAC in there, and a bunch of usurpers. I did use a gravimetric backup array and a dmg control on my cnr just in case, jamming was light and my tank wasnt severely threatened. You do get a lot of kinetic torps though, your tank really need to shrug them off to survive. ----

I finished it yesterday in a caracal. it took quiet some time, but i did it. i had 5x heavies, named med shield extender, med shield booster. ab and active thermal hardener. in the lows i had a small armor rep and a dcu.
had to warp out often, but i managed to kill one ship in each "run". the frigs are a PIA, but when i exchanged the ab for a web, they where way easier to kill (wanted to fit target painter, but draged the wrong item in the slot. kept the web because it worked :D).
