Quote: Finally, Noah wanted me to stress that this is very much a social tool. As much as players might want it, there are no plans for avatar combat of any kind at release. There may be ceremonial weapons that can be worn as accessories, but for the present all PvP will have to occur in the space surrounding the stationsłnot in them.
Damnit, I wanted to headshot ISK Farmers when they docked.
They should allow combat against players with wars with each other & players who are flagged as thieves.

This is so amazing.
With all these announcements you know they will find a way to look outside from inside the station and vice versa, or not by making one way windows with the explanation because of radiation.
Planetary flight, colonization.

But you just know that the lag will get even worse when they add ambulation, or are they going to double or triple the infrastructure.

Im not so certain there will be more lag... flying ships or walking people, whats the big difference?
The lag in Jita seems to be caused by the system cpu not having enough power to handle everything that is going on in the solar system, but if people are walking around INSTEAD of using the market, processing things, moving items between hangars etc, then it might actually be LESS lag.
We have been told there will be stuff to do in the stations though, like playing cards or buying clothes, so I dont know for sure if it will be less lag, but im not really convinced it will be more.

Ambulation is a way of getting people to stop playing Eve while still paying the subscription fee.
It's just a time sink which is unhelpful to the gameplay of the core game. There was once a time when Eve was a harsh world where you had to think to survive, now people won't take the risks and just dance in their new outfit whenever pressure is applied.

Yesterday, I was docked in Jita 4-4 on an alt and all the time was doing nothing but stare at my ship in hangar while I worked on the marked and contracts. And I thought: It would be cool if I could sit in a bar and relax and have a nice chat while doing all that.
If you play EvE for the Ambulation you will probably be disappointed, but If you play Eve like you play it now and accept the ambulation as a socializing feature you will love it, because it will add alot of immersion.

I have to say I'm doubtful about the dueling feature, I know its not even been decieded upon yet but I hope CCP put it somewhere out of the way like dueling rings, I'd hate to walk down the mall and see laser blasts go everywhere. It would ruin it for me.
Another possible problem is atmosphere. I hope theres large enough numbers of NPCs wandering around so as to make the less visited stations "crowded".
Also Lowsec stations could have opuim dens and the like to give it that seedier look.

They make a lot more of it than I firstly expected. It seems this could easily be the best working 3d chat program of the world with stuff as "situational character awareness". It sounds really good to me and it'll make Eve a lot more immersive and it gives much more a connection to your character, which I kinda missed so far aswell, espescially in the beginning. And entering ships would be soo awesome.
I don't know if you can expect people to start playing Eve just because of this, but it'll surely be very attractive for roleplayers and I think it'll get more people into RP'ing aswell. Expect some people to be hanging around in stations all day when this comes out.
I only found the shopping aspect a bit weird however. I can understand some pod-pilots go gamble for entertainment and perhaps some silly people throw-away all their money with it, but starting shops? I mean, pod-pilots are the elite, they're semi-immortal and quick millionaires (in ISK at least), are they going to bother starting up some bussiness for themself with bars and shops!?
I find that a bit weird. It is however cool to create some extra economy behind it however. Players starting planetary corporations that supports all kind of trading and not just the stuff needed for modules and ships? Might be cool.
Anyway. I'm looking forward to this. It seems Eve Online is going to be the best graphical MMO out there in 2008, it beats the hell out of AoC and WAR at least. Good thing that they're quite a lot of it, but I hoped that it might've come out at the end of 2007, seems I'll have to wait a little longer.

Well, it doesn't seem that weird to me. The whole bar thing at least.
This is based on CCP's idea of being able to keep people out if you don't want them. It's like creating exclusive clubs, which is definitely something the elite pod pilots would do. Imagine the Guiding Hand Social Club actually existing
As for shops. I don't know. Now that you mention it, these clothes shops do sound a little strange. But I trust CCP will make it work properly. And in any case, it's not like anything is final.

Wow, I almost found that a bit overboard. I see a potential problem in the future, and that is people spending too much time in stations. I say if they can get the servers to hold 50,000+ players, it's a great idea. That makes it so there will still be people even flying around the universe. :) - - -

I think so too. Lets hope the cluster can handle it. If this stuff gets to be as good as it sounds, it will be the best virtual chat room on earth (as someone else said earlier in the thread).
When I played Knights of the Old Republic, my favorite thing was playing the small mini games and the atmosphere in the bars. Ambulation may be even better than that. :)

Easy, target market are fellow capsuleers who hold the same status, and thus, much higher standards. Couple this with the controls of locking out certain individuals or entire alliances (or even entire races, if preferred), and you end up something that can be RP-ed into reason.
I like it, tbh. -

Then the Hardwiring - Zainou 'Foxy Ears' RAWR5000 should get in as well.
