i must say i really have no interest in ambulation. it wont stop me playing but i just don't feel it adds to flavour of what i imagine is happening in the game. Pod pilots are immortal when they are in their pod, their brain tape is taken instantaneously destroying their brain when the pod is breached. why would anyone risk their immortality? their minds get put into fresh clones, they are full of hard wiring and have connection ports between their nervous system and the pods themselves. i imagine that they are hairless with puckered raw flesh surrounding gleaming metal sockets over their bodies, like Neo when he awakens outside the matrix. i imagine them to be a real freak show.
that's why the portraits are used, this is the person that was, only an avatar of the transhuman horror of the pod pilot. I like the idea that they are more now a component of ship technology, an expression of power and a tool.
although, i do recognize that the philosophic ruminations and imagination i hold, the desire to extend the nature of humanity in response to technologies that change our view of what it is to be human. the horror of mutilating the human body to give immortality, overcoming death, to casually clone jump across space by getting your body killed, looking upon your own desiccated frozen corpse, these ideas maybe considered distancing for a lot of players.
well after that free association rant, if we are having ambulation, i want frozen corpses. i want to decorate our corporate bar in individual glass fronted freezers containing our evil slaver enimies.

Frozen corpses would be nice, and as to the other issue, i have no idea, maybe the ambulation characters are simply lesser clones of some sort, wired to the pod-pilot?
Then again maybe most pod pilots go out of their pods, get some sun, a nice shower, and have galante designed fasion implants.
It's great being Amarr isn't it.

I'd be happy with a traditional brutor necklace made from fallen Amarrian ears.

With enough units of brutor slaves, and enough isk, you should be able to get around like Xerses in 300.
