When I started playing EVE the Thorax reing King Now its still up there but not "The one and only" anymore
I have alot more experiance with the Vexor so its hard not to be biased.
Therefore I'll leave it up to you......
Who is the best for solo pirating in low sec?

If you set them up identically, the thorax has one more slot, more hp etc and better fittings. If you set up the thorax with rails (or arties) and use it just like the vexor, the vexor stands no chance... ___ P.S. Post with your main. Mind control and tin hats |

The Vexor could just orbit really close so the rails couldn't hit and cause its drones have the benefit of a bonus they will be hitting harder.
I would think that the Vexor would win, but it would depend on the skills of the pilots. They are pretty evenly matched ships.
The Thorax is more fun.

I've run the numbers on it before, and the Thorax can squeeze out just a little bit more DPS than the Vexor. If it was a completely straight Damage n' Tank match, the Thorax would probably win.
But since a blaster Thorax has 100% close range while a blaster Vex still has it's drones that can work up to 60km, if the Vexor can pull range then it'd be on to a winner.
Then again, if the Thorax fitted a Smart Bomb for the occasion, it'd be a white wash.
But if the Vexor fitted a Neut set up and webs, it could probably run rings around the Thorax.
Er.
I think the morale of the story is that it depends on how they're fitted. An SB Thorax would kick a Vexor like a puppy, but be near enough useless to anything else. Every ship has a counter... ------

Right lets take the convetional Thorax setup.
Small blasters and 1600 plate

My Vexor setup which I now fly for the last year
5 Small Neutralizer (sucking over 400 cap every 10 sec) thats 4 large nos 800 injetor 2x MAR 1x EANM 800 plate 5m sp in drones
His cap is empty before im in structure (Everytime)
Thats how I fight

Vexor can fit EW + highslot utility without utterly screwing its setup, so would probably win.

Vexor with three sentry drones, drone link augs(control range increasers?) and sensor boosters?
Never tried it but I would think that could work. Nothing to hold said Thorax there but it would have a hard time fighting back.

I used to do level 4 missions in Vexor back when I had 14 drones with it, I think Vexor wins if it can keep at 20km+ while Thorax would win at short range.

What if the Thorax traded in the 1600 plate for an 800 and fitted 4 medium blasters and a small nos? Would that be more effective than 5 small blasters?

the ships are on a par
the outcome is totally dependant on the ability of the pilot.

Thanks everyone
Your advise and thoughts was well apreciated I think the conclusion here is that they are both very close and that it will come down to skill like most of the time
Alot of people pirate with T2 stuff and thats ok by me, however sinking BC in low sec with my Vex or Rax in a 2mil setup all T1 does give me that exstra bit of plesure aspecially if the poor guy ask my setup
Whish Eve was more geared for the solo wolf.
Thanks

if i am not wrong, a vexor pilot will probably have good enough drone skills to have his drones orbit quite safely out of smartbomb range. or?

Medium smartbomb has a 4000m range, medium drones orbit at roughley half that i think, and most experanced droneboat pilots will see there drones shield suddenley vanish, and pull them in for instant recharge for which they have 10 seconds before the next smartie cycle, so probaley wouldent kill them, however that is a lot of DPS to lose if you have to keep pulling them in.
otoh, thats a lot of cap to lose to the SB as well to run it constantley. -
