Greetings
Running a pos and scraping isk for a carrier has taken its toll on my eve life, so me and a corp mate are taking a break, bought a couple of HACs (vagabond and ishtur) and are taking a brief relaxing walk into the relms of piracy.
I was wondering if there are any rules of engagement at all, i know some do this for a living and dont want to put a mark against anyones names. Also what sort or ransoms you ask for? (I've only been ransomed once and that guy met a swift firey death since i wasnt gonna pay. Silly noob raven pilots)
Anyway, basic guidelines or advice on how to setup would be appreciated, i believe we have the right ships for the job

I believe there is only one rule of piracy, and that is.
Always honour ransoms.

Always honour your word.
Fixed.
Always honour your word, whether it be a ransom, or a 1v1 etc etc.
Apart from that, just kill and ransom everything you can get your hands on ___________________________________________ ✖ Our Home, Our Corp, Our VETO ✖

1) SHIP SETUPS
2) allways honour your word. even if it costs you a ship. honour > ships
and not much more a newb like me could add i guess.

Wow - are we back to the discussion about "honour" and crap YET AGAIN?
To the OP - do what you want. All this stuff about honouring ransoms is utter rubbish - anyone honouring ransoms isn't a real pirate anyway, based on historical evidence. Do whatever it takes to win - lie, cheat and steal, as long as you get the loot

the world's evolving, and things change.
in eve, piracy is a business, and all you have (besides your guns and propulsion jamming I) to make money is your word. and it hurts business not honoring your word.
i read this the other day: since the price crash on t2 due to invention, pirates are more dependant on ransoms to fund their profession.
i think thats true.

Edited by: 3yeb4ll on 06/09/2007 14:20:56 From the various discussions here in C&P it seems like there's a growing consensus that "real" pirates wouldn't honour anything, ever, at all.
I personally couldn't give a toss about "honour". Why honour ransoms? Why not take the ransom and shoot them anyway? I don't depend wholly on make a living out of ransoming people and I don't perceive a hugely negative sec status as a badge of merit - in fact it's a bit dim imo because it reduces access to potential targets
No - real pirates would sell their own mothers for a t1 cargo expander and some fresh carebear tears...because they can.

there was a post around with links to RL pirates.
there you can read that most of them had very strict rules, guidelines and "laws" between their own crew (which extends to many ships)
not much info about their rules and honour when it comes to "outsiders" tho

I love the discussions of pirate and honour.
17th(?) Century pirate. Unrelenting murderer and thief. When he was killed, he stayed dead. The price was paid.
Fast Forward a few centuries. Hollywood makes pirates kewl. With a Kapital K for Knightly. Hollywood gives them honour, codes, guidelines whatever. The sheep of the new era rejoice, send kids to fancy dress as pirates, and are happy to say "I'm a pirate".
In this new era, who has been selected by the authorities of the day to be the new face of evil they "protect" you from? Take your pick.
Terrorists or peadophiles. Either works.
Fast Forward a few centuries.
See where I am going yet?

Real pirates in internet spaceships, whatever next.
I think it is pretty safe to say that Veto are well known for keeping thier word, which means a higher chance of a guy paying up the ransom. They have also grown a pretty fearsome rep for been stand up fighters. Quite a few times I've heard the scout say "guys, Veto in local" rather than just "blinkys in local" like when any other pirate corp is seen.
Personally this would mean more to me than the extra few bucks I could make by dishounering ransoms/1v1's.

Everyone got his own opinion, get over it. Mine is that the majority of the eve "pirates" is just a bunch of intergalactic schoolyard bullies. RAK for example certainly isn't anything like pirates. The only resemblance here is that both are commanding ships.
And to the OP, do what you like. Play pirate and follow some code of honor or just gank away. You decide, you're the one flying the ship. On the amount of ISK to ransom, i'd go by the age of the guy. But any figures, i dunno really, i never got ransomed so far. People seem to love my corpse. :)
And maybe don't start pvping with the expensive stuff right away. Start cheap, get the hang of it, then work up to the better ships. Way more fun that way. Not an alt. And proud of it. |

I read a bio today, stating that PvP is not about who`s best, but who`s left. Even though I tend to pirate for recreational purposes only, and as such leave haulers obvious noobs alone, I still think piracy is all down to what you make it. If you want to blow ships up for fun and try to make ISK off the loot and wrecks, your word is of no consequence. If, on the other hand you want make ISK off ransoming, you must never pass up a good hauler or miner, and the more times you go back on your word, the more you will turn into the previous type of pirate.
On that note though, how cool would EvE piracy be if you could force someone to eject and leave their ship? Now THAT would be proper piracy...

What the heck?
OP - do whatever you WANT to do in any ship you can AFFORD to lose. The only rule EVE should have. You're the one forking up 15 bucks each month.
P.S. Just because Veto are recognised as highly honourable and good PVPers doesn't mean they should be the model to base piracy on. So STOP shoving them in our face. Money on your head? Chop! |

That is the absolute truth of the subject.
I play the game how I want. Nobody tells me I should be playing with honour. A pirate chooses how he wants to play. If he has honour so be it, if he does not, so be it.
I play the game to win. As long as I dont break game rules, its allowed and viable.
Deal with it, without crying preferably.
