Hi there,
I recently heard about 'BOB pets', which if I undertand right, are corporations paying 'protection money' to BOB in order to be allowed to use a certain part of space which in under BOB control. What corporations are BOB pets atm and how much does BOB ask them to pay on a monthly basis?
Secondly, I heard players say BOB has quite a lot of devs in it, which sounds a bit unfair to me. Is this true?
So, if the things stated above are actually correct, BOB uses extortion to gain some of its income while, in part, being so powefull because some devs flocked together. I am not saying this is totally wrong (I find it rather interesting), but the point is, am I right in saying this?

Oh my, I don't know what to say about your post. At first I thought you might be a troll, but then I thought maybe you really are just a little naive newbie. So I will explain the concept of BoB for you:
BoB is tough, they conquered alot of land. In order to control so much land, you need help to keep it under control. BoB itself is too small to defend all of it's space at all times. So It instated Militias into the conquered regions that are supposed to help defending the area. In return they get their own little piece of 0.0 and an outpost or two.
Then you have maybe little corporations and small alliances that are not strong enough to conquer their own land. they are rich tho, so they just pay rent to BoB, who have more than enough land and in return get their own piece of 0.0. As a bonus, they get protection from BoB and the Militias of the regions they are in.
All together, they become stronger. Weak corps get a chance to live in 0.0, BoB gets money from them, they get protection from boB. It's all one big happy win/win family.
Contrary to popular believe, boB does not go around and charges rent from Corp/Alliances in their space. That is a thing that gets agreed upon BEFORE the corp/alliance moves in to BoB space. So if they can't afford to pay that rent, they wont live in 0.0. That way, it is not extortion but simply a agreed upon amount of rent.
It is a great concept really. I think it best compares to a symbiosis of wich all entities benefit.
THAT is also the reason why the so called "BoB-pets" don't see it as a bad thing, while outsiders who do not fully understand the concept might think the pets are necessarily cowards or weak. BoB-pet is just a term. Technically they are allies, they just happened to rally together under the BoB banner, as BoB is the most dominant forces of the Alliance and pretty much the driving force.
Only a small minority member corps/alliances actually pay rent. The rest of them are Militias that are given the job of defending their space and aiding BoB as payment for living there. Pretty much what any other alliance is doing out there really.
So whatever you want to call them, BoB-Pets, Slaves.... they really mostly are BoB-Allies.
On to the second part of your question: Are there Devs in BoB? Maybe. Are there Devs in Goonswarm? Maybe. Does that MAYBE alone make those alliances get an unfair advantage? No. How many is "Quite Alot"? Do you have reliable sources or is it just hear-say? Did those "quite alot" devs abuse their Power in favor of BoB? Again, do you have proof? Name your sources, show your evidence.
BoB did not get as powerful as it is today because some "Devs flocked together". They play the game since Beta, know how to play to the fulles potential, have a strong core of members, great tacticians and strategists, lots of Money and loyal allies.
So basically, I come to the conclusion that you are wrong, until you prove me otherwise.

Khorian pretty much said it to be honest. BoB's enemies simply use the term BoB-pet in a derogatory way to try and make those who they class as BoB-pets feel really bad about themselves, and then fight against BoB. BoB themselves prefer to call their allies part of the "Greater BoB Community", or GBC.
As for the devs thing. There was indeed one dev who was a part of BoB, and he did indeed cheat and managed to get BoB, perhaps with, or perhaps without their knowledge, a small advantage in that they received some Tech II BPOs. However, he was punished, and the BPOs removed from the game.
It is likely that there is still a dev or two in BoB, just as there are devs in almost all major alliances in the game, as well as many smaller corps. The devs playing accounts don't have any special powers, and all dev account actions are audited and checked by CCP's internal affairs department in order to catch any cheating going on.

I believe the senior bobbits were first to use the term "pets" and changed it when the damage of calling them so started to affect them.

All the pet talk is just ******** tbfh, internet kids trying to sound big and bad/ name calling and talking tough etc. I find it particually amusing how the coalition tries to justify it's own renters/allies trying to sound like shiny white paladins and freedom fighters for internet truth.

Thank alot so far for the replies. I certainly didn't mean to troll and I don't mean to offense anyone. So what are the mayor player driven forces (alliances) in EVE these days. I understand BOB on the one hand, but are they opposed by some other coalition(s)? Where do they roughly live? Who's most likely gonna be the dominating alliance in nullsec eventually?

I'm definitely no fan of BoB myself but the whole pet thing is stupid. The "pet" corps are basically corporations that rent space owned by the alliance giving them access to 0.0 resources without having to spend a huge amount of isk in conquering and holding that space. The host alliance has the benefit of gaining regular income from otherwise unused territory it holds allowing it to focus on wars and other developments.
The rent and terms/conditions these renter corps must abide by to access an alliances space will vary from one alliance to the other and is purely up to whoever holds the space.
Virtually every alliance has corporations like this in their space and have done for some time so it isn't a new concept. The "pet" term is mostly used as an insult to these corps as (I guess) a form of semi propaganda or just to annoy people.

The great War in the south/ south-east is fought between BoB and it allies called the "Alliance" vs the Red Alliance and their allies called the "Coalition".
Both parties consist of MANY alliances and the fighting will probably come to a halt sooner than later. That is, because with newly added levels of Sovereignity it has become much harder to conquer really fortified territory. The coalition so far has conquered some unfortified space that BoB took from them a few months ago.
Now, the fighting is going to start to concentrate on the substantial parts of the alliance, mainly RISE space and FIX space, wich are both heavily guarded and fortified.
This is gonna be a test of attrition, where the coalition is on the trigger now and taking the initiative. For example, IAC and AAA have been trying to set foot into Querious for a few weeks now and failed to accomplish any meaningful progress in that direction so far.
Will the Coalition have enough stamina to chew through all of the south? Will the Alliance repell the invasion and go on a Counter Attack once again?
We will see :)

At least post the whole thing or nothing. The reason the Dev was found out was because people in BoB told CCP.
So what if BoB has dev playing with them? I'm pretty sure (about 99%) theirs devs in other alliances. ______

So let me lay it out for the ones that aren't aware of the real facts bob alt, or pet alt.
BoB charges rent to almost everyone of the corps or alliances that live in "their" space.
Fact is BoB is as weak as it comes if all the pets aligned against their masters, problem is most pets are scared ****less or don't care as long as they can suck on mother boblet's breast for iskies, nice juicy ores and some officer spawns, hidden plexes etc etc and so forth.
Xelas was the most flagrant example of taking leaching to new levels, in fact they still continue but in other corps/alliances.
Only close friends don't pay rent , and those are very very few and hardcore players, i might even risk to say they are the only decent pvp guys around the block organizing and taking care of stuff while BoB is ocupied with more serious stuff, the rest is cannon fodder.
Now rant all you want, flame all you want, they are not allies, not equals and will never be, galavet has stated that more than once in the foruns, even the pets itselves don't get along sometimes and its not win/win situation, its almost win/win for bob situation.
So merry xmas to you and a happy new discovery.
As for the rest don't care get some milk and cookies and go to bed. TSFA - "In Vino Veritas" ...did you say wine?

Whats your other option then being aligned with BOB, Goons ? Pick your poison I say, or time zone....I don't think Id want either of them knocking on my door.
