Wikipedia 18 Jan 2012 - SOPA - this link is useless on any other day.
Please CCP iterate your position concerning SOPA and PIPA.
Silence is an answer too. (you haven`t joined the 18 Jan 2012 web movement) You can`t remain neutral regarding this.
Your community needs a statement with your position. |

but US ISPs could be forced to DNS block EVE theoretically and even CCP in all their wisdom wouldn't want that. |

This will affect everyone utilizing the internet by introducing draconian legal tools for interfering with DNS resolution.
If that wasn't worrying enough, try reading up on the international version called ACTA.
For more information check out the front page of reddit, or Google's website where the logo is currently blacked out in opposition to these two terrible pieces of legislation.
These two bills are just the opening shots in an all-out war of big content and existing rightsholders against the internet, and as such even if you aren't a US citizen you should be extremely frightened and pissed off.

Self entitlement, right there. Also, they don't have to make a statement at all as it doesn't pertain them.

Check your country legislative proposals. Almost all EU countries have similar initiatives. Also, CCP is a international company with servers in US also. (and if I`m not mistaking they have an Atlanta office)
And the final point, if US goes with SOPA and PIPA, the rest of the civilized world will implement this type of acts into their legislation. |

As CCP uses a .com address, anything CCP does can fall under US jurisdiction. I don't believe Iceland has extradition treaties with the US, but if an Icelandic employee happened to be in the UK, and the US deemed Iceland to be in breach of that or many other badly written pieces of legislation....

Yes it does. Many other countries are on the brink of introducing similarly ******** laws but so far their lobbies have not gained enough momentum to succeed at such plan.
With the influential USA setting up such a massive precedent, you may expect a chain effect in a sizable part of the western countries. Eastern countries tend to have censorship and "freedom management" already anyway. |

Please go and look at how the MPAA and RIAA are trying to keep their influence over european parliament and courts so they actively go after filesharers before you say such ignorant things. |

Now that it's something important to YOU we're allowed to talk about politics?
CCP Spitfire wrote:3. Discussions about politics and religion not allowed, there are other websites with forums for these topics. Quote:7. It shouldn't be necessary to do so, but it appears that some players (And CCP mods -VK) feel the need to inflict their viewpoints on race, religion, politics, and other hot topic opinions on other players. These discussions will not be tolerated anywhere on the EVE forums. Players that cannot follow this guideline can lose their posting privileges immediately. This is the sole warning that will be issued regarding this. |

If I wanted to be a legal pain, all i would have to do is make some music, copyright it, overlay it on an eve online trailer posted to youtube, call my buddy up at the RIAA and say that CCP is using my music without proper rights, he then goes to his buddies in the government. Then all CCP domains are rerouted, website, forums, and game servers are blocked at the backbone level till this gets sorted which could be a week.

The internet should be the wild west forever I agree, I had a similar thought too that anyone could fake something and put blame on another. The bill is clearly set up to be a power abuse. I can see the Internet being mauled viciously, especially by companies like Sony.
Here is the full list of organizations that support SOPA.
It is a bit of a concern because this will affect other legislations on ridiculous freedom killing acts. If it is somehow approved, prepare for sacrifices. |

Read above.
We are not connected at all, we all live in our dark little corners and have no effect on others what so ever
Do not get me wrong, citizens from the US and other countries found in the Americas do the same, but it really is sad in todays day and age.

Damn it, CCP. This may be a political discussion, but it will effect THE ENTIRE INTERNET!
Let me sum up SOPA and PIPA (copies of eachother) in my own words:
Any website that has ANY amount of date from ANY other website will automatically be blocked. Translation: Every website in the world, including this one.
So pull it together and do something about it. Do anything about it other than ignore it, please! Not just for the good of your company, but for the good of everyone around the world!

It doesn't make sense for a foreign company to complain or take a stance... what channels do they even have to influence USA domestic policy? Besides, I would think that the more foreign opposition they see to it, all the more strongly American legislators would support SOPA and PIPA just to spite them.
I think now that the word is out and the public is more aware of what's at stake, these particular bills will either fail or be much curtailed. In the long run though, we'll likely have this kind of legislative fight every few years until the big media companies inevitably win. They have vast financial resources and the benefit of immortality; most voters have only spurts of indignation and the ability to write misspelled letters to the wrong congressmen. |
