Things could be worse. You could be having a day like me.
0600: wake up 0605: log into Eve 0615: Eve server crashes .... shower, shave, and wait 0710: server up and login to set skill training 0757: not paying attention and put my truck into a wall at work, (no damage - high bumper resists) 0920: driving a 2 ton forklift at work I get brake failure and smash into a 6 meter rack of merchandise. (rack had alot of structure points and remained standing, forklift can be armor repaired) 1015: get the standard comments about being a immigrant. (I felt so Minmatar at that point) 1115: get told by fellow worker that one of my bosses has "gotten with" my exwife and has been telling the other coworkers. (Now I felt Amarian and had kill rights by divine authority) 1117: call exwife - yup (ouch - hull shot) 1120: quit job (sings a little ditty - "It¦s a Pirates Life For Me") .... look for a job, give up, still too mad .... plot revenge 1530 logon to Eve and start buying pvp gear and ships (I am so carebear I actually had to research what to do and what I might need) 1800 all gear assembled, scouting the system I will begin my downward security spiral (trembling with anticipation) 1825 all looks good 1835 Eve servers crash
For the love of whatever you find holy. Please get them up soon. I have got to kill something virtual right now.
Throw another log on the fire Drako's burning nicely.

Just cancel your account and don't raise your blood pressure with all that suspense...Simple as that.
I dont think that u decide what i have to do.
Nope, I don't decide. It's your brain. It's your call. But it is kind of funny when you flame the game, so I gave you a friendly advise - you could cancel your EVE account and wait for the next-big-suppa-duppa-space-based-moorpg-that-kicks-azzes...
U miss the point. We care about the game. It has great potential and it makes me/us crazy to see that the delevoper are killing it. Thats the reason we are flaming and beeing sarcastic. We hope that they will wake up and care about us the same we care about their product.

Database issues still :( Are you actually looking at ways to fix this or are you just collecting logs to make it appear you are dong something? Have you thought of options to shrink the database: - create a story about a mysterious mist that is currently rolling thru the regions that destroys secure and audit log containers that have not been sprayed with a new protection paint that came out a month or 2 ago? Can start this over but at least you can get rid of containers that belong to people/corps no longer in the game. - all new accounts that have not been accessed for over a month after they expired are off-loaded and a simple request form can have it restored in a day or 2? - all paid for characters that have not been accessed for say half a year are off-loaded and a simple request ..?
these are just a couple of suggestions - if I can see or told what you are actually doing each day as maintenance I might be able to offer more substantial suggestions to fix a problem that appears to be just increasing.
Thanks for your time

Tranquility has been restarted and is now open for business, please keep in mind that a lot of people logging in can create some initial lag so make sure you keep out of harms way for the first 15 minutes.

Is there any chance of having a slightly more technical explanation of:- 1. What went wrong, 2. Cause or possible causes there of (providing they're not exploitable), 3. What remedial plan is in place to fix 2.

Ok, peace
It's just that I am in the IT business and I know what it takes when a SQL Server 2005 Enterprise cluster gets crazy. It really sucks and it is not always the developers to blame. It could be anything from a faulty RAM module, to a high-quality M$ patch. Yes, we hear various opinions - go and get MySQL, go and get Oracle, migrate to Linux / Unix / MacOS etc. Unfortunately it is not that easy. A couple of months ago a customer of mine got a major SQL Server cluster crash - it took us 2 hours with the MS Business Critical support team to pinpoint the problem - it was a bug in the firmware of one of the IBM DS400 storage arrays serving the DB. It has messed up the SCSI reservations and both cluster nodes lost their access to the shared disk resources. It has been working fine for years and it crashed...the real challange is to explain to the top managers of this 300M company, that they are screwed, because of a bug seeded in the firmware by a developer in Mumbai (no offence) or wherever...
I agree that CCP should have somebody to keep the players updated, but sometimes it is not easy to expose your dirty underwear...

Don't get me wrong, I think these responses are warranted, but it would make it easier to understand what's going on.
dude, all the devs say in threads like this is: server went boom because someone spilled beer. we are working on it, stay tuned.
they have better things to do, like execute the one who spilt the beer. or feed him to one of those evil icelandic trolls ----------------------------------------------- "post with your main. delete your alt, you sad little exploiting metagamer."

I'll do my best.
1. As we posted earlier, there was a failover that caused the server to crash. 2. We are working with Microsoft to get it fixed. 3. Once we get the results from the techs we will do as they recommend and hopefully that will fix the problem.
Maybe not as detailed as you want I'm afraid.

If your cluster nodes could not "see" the Quorum disk it could be one of your "wonderful" DS series storage arrays. IBM is for servers, Hitachi is for storage. My 2 cents...

We have both MS looking at it as well as our own guys working on it, and it's safe to say we all want to get this fixed as soon as we possibly can.
