I was in concord protected empire space, i took from some guys wreck and he started shooting me, he went flashing red so i started shooting him back, after about 5 minutes or more of our fighting, he died, when he died, i took a security status hit and 10 seconds later concord came and blew up my ship, costing me about 500m worth of modules.
What the hell happend? Why did concord come? He attacked me first and he had the right to because i had taken from his wreck, but that gave me the right to shoot him back and kill him, why did i lose sec status and concord come to kill me? Normally you lose sec status as soon as you shoot someone and then again when or if you kill them, although in these circumstances concord should not have helped.
If i petition will i get my stuff back? Assuming all i have said is truth.

I was using a cruiser, no smartbombs, had drones and pulse lasers on his ship till he popped and i didn't do anything to his pod.

depends if the GM feels like it you may very well get told that because their logs show nothing unusual they cannot verify the existance of concord
only way to find out is try

I didn't lock his pod so don't see how they could have.
Also one other thing is shortly before he died i noticed a change in his ship, couldn't pin my finger on what it was, i thought he'd unlocked me but noticed he still had me locked. Now i think perhaps the change is that he stopped flashing red to me... which would be impossible. The fight only started around 5 minutes ago AND as the fight goes on the 15 minute aggression timer keeps reseting to 15 minutes.

My drones will occsionally continue going after enemies after they killed the inital target so its not out of the world of possibilities that your drones continued on with their attack.

You can see he attacked me first and there was a 4-5 minute time difference between him first attacking me and me shooting back and him finally dying, you can also see i lost sec status when he died and that is what triggered concord to come after me. So what the hell?

You used missiles? Maybe the last one hit the pod because the ship was gone. If it exploded at the same time as the ship, the blast could have hit the pod.

I had no AE weapons, i also have my settings set so that if i try to perform an act in empire that would result in concord killing me i would first be warning and have to click accept.

The last hit before i lost security status was me blowing his ship up. You see i lost security status, but for what action? No action because i took no actions, the only thing i had locked at the time was on my own drones and i've tested shooting my own drones in empire just to see what would happen, concord doesn't come for you. I didn't even receive any "are you sure you wish to do this as concord may come for you etc etc" warning. He popped, i lost sec status immediately and concord came and blew me up. The action of killing is ship is what triggered my sec loss and concord coming for me. We had been fighting for 5 minutes and he attacked me first!
I didn't even touch any modules as he popped anyway, just sat there, watched him die and me take a sec hit for it and thought "crap, wtf i took a sec hit? Great concords gonna bust me for nothing..."

Edited by: Dok Ok on 15/09/2007 20:45:23 Another thing i've noticed in the log is that i took the sec hit about 7-8 seconds after i fired the last shot, during this time the only thing i had locked was my own drones and i was calling them back. Nothing i could have done would have triggered concord.

If this is really what is in your logs, then it wasn't that last shot that triggered the criminal flag, since it's separated by 9 seconds. When you do something that flags you as a criminal, you'll get the "security status adjusted" log entry like you did, immediately followed by the action that caused the criminal flag to be assigned. So my question is, do you have any log entry showing you attacking something after the log entries i quoted?

Well , drones don't give log entries. I guess they are to blame. I suppose they are programmed to attack whatever is aggressed to you , but in highsec it's not allowed to pod without wardecs.

my drones has attacked other targets even if i had no lock on them numerous times. think it were the drones that caused the aggression. the sec hit is clearly for initiating combat and some seconds after the last hit.
then again if you had lock or not has to show up in the logs i guess, so petioning might be worth it. escalate the petition to a senior if the first answer dont satisfie you. the artificial dumbness of the drones is not your fault, after all... --- [insert witty sig-hijack here]

Agreed that is the only thing he can do. But to be honest I bet he will get the, "Our logs show nothing amiss" (or however it reads) token response and be SOL.
I recently lost 500m worth of ship and mods in a mission. One I have done dozens of times. Even had a mate with me. I died so fast it was as if I had no hardeners on at all and no repping (which I most certainly did...eyeballed it a dozen times to be sure as my ship was dying). My mate watching the whole thing was stunned. He, in a similar ship (tank/capability wise) soloed the rest of the mission with no problem whatsoever.
Checked my logs and the last damage that my ship recorded taking was several minutes earlier in the previous room of the mission. Petitioned and got the ubiquitous, "We're very sorry for your loss but we can't do ****" response.
Eh...sucks but whatever.

Go to character screen -> security status -> right click on the security status hit and select details.
Should give you some insights to what action caused that sec hit.
You could have possibly scrammed or webbed or ewar'd the pod or the wreck which does not show up on player logs but is counted as agression and will call concord.

I checked my sec status, the sec status loss does not even show up. It should do, right?
Also no chance i attacked anything, i had nothing atall locked. I also have the setting turned on so that if i tried to commit a criminal act in empire i get a warning box pop up.

I always figured that was due to shield skills being applied wrong. As in determining your shield max amount without filling them to 100%. So the "damage" would actually be the difference between unmodified pod shield max and your modified max.
Just me guessing though. Seems a likely coding mistake. /shrug

It's because you placed an excellent hit with a laser. It is not supposed to be that way. Then you've been concorded and lost security status. Be warned. If it happens again Concord will pod you. Nuponi Nimedaz: "You're a pilot after my own heart, Alastra." |

in my expirence, you can warp scram and damage a pod in this situation, and concord will not come. They will only come if you out and out pop the pod...damaging it does nothing.
So, if you dont have a killmail for the pod (ie, your drones somehow got it) then the next bet would be that can you took from, or his wreck. It belonged to the guy you were agressed to....
if your enemy is using drones, and you are using drones, and you pop him, your drones will go after his drones automatically, since they are aggressed to you. I'll bet a few isks that your drones auto aggroed either the can you took from (or was it a wreck you took from?) or his ship wreck.
I know you were recalling the drones, but that command can take a few seconds to go through, and ive seen my drones shooting as they fly back to dock.

Now i think perhaps the change is that he stopped flashing red to me... which would be impossible. The fight only started around 5 minutes ago AND as the fight goes on the 15 minute aggression timer keeps reseting to 15 minutes.
it is possible that he ejected from his ship short before the explosion so your final hit was agains an uboarded ship

that couldnt be it... unboarded ships belongs to the owner...(and the corp/alliance)
and yeah, the flag stays with his ship in a non-war setting

I was using a cruiser, no smartbombs, had drones and pulse lasers on his ship till he popped and i didn't do anything to his pod.
maybe your sec standing got below the sec it can be in that system and thereby alarming concord.

Concord doesn't bother about outlaws that have a security level that's too low for system. Faction police will take care of that.
On top of that, in his case, the fight will not give a security hit to any of the two pilots involved. You can fire on a thief without a security hit, you can fire back once fired upon without a security hit.
Something caused him to get a security hit and that triggered concord. I sure would like to know what that was too though.

Yeh I hope the OP lets us know. His drones attacking the enemy pilot's drones sounds like a possible cause though.
I wouldn't hesitate to petition this.
Great win as well

Did he use drones? If so, your drones might have gone for those after his ship was destroyed thereby causing the concord agression. ____________

Edited by: Hammurabbi on 16/09/2007 11:34:19 This sort of ties in with what happend to me a week ago:
I was in a gang, being assisted in a mission. The assistance was in the form a of a shield repair drone coming from my gang member.
The drone was autotargetted by my ship and i accidentally target painted it. I got a messaged but didn't read it fully because of the heat of the battle.
I don't know if i actually took a shot at the drone, but next thing i know i'm in my pod scratching my head. Ship destroyed by the Concord for being bad. Ok, i can understand that, noob mistake i can learn from.
Now for the lesser part of the story: my gangmember was also flagged as bad and also shot by Concord. For helping me.
Seems like a loophole or oversight in Concord programming.

Drones auto attac when there is new entity that attacs you.
- he had a misle flying to you when his ship exploded - he gets in his pod (new entity), next the misle hits you - drone defend you couse they think the pod is attacing you
same reason way sometimes pod's show up on kill mails even do the pilot whas flying a ship when he was attacing the opponent ...
seen it befor, petition and get your ship back (if yha lucky) ...
