Why do you allow it CCP? It just encourages people to come up with annoying alt names, do lazy character creation, and if the character lives for any amount of time leads to regret at having numbers in a name. I remember 000Hunter000 and several others saying they wished they'd never done it.
So please CCP, bring an end to it? A simple bit of code in the character creation that won't allow numbers to be used.
Thanks.

But if the removed the ability to use numbers than there would only be 241,335,311,011,519,234,780,052,665,404,750,000,000,000 (241 duodecillion) name combinations instead of 22,300,745,198,530,623,141,535,718,272,648,000,000,000,000 (22 tredecillion)

The OP displays highly numerophobic tendencies. Even binary pilots can make a difference.

Brutor Shaun, I understand your frustration kind of, but I for one purposely chose my nickname with a number in it and I'm liking it. So I disagree with your request of getting rid of the numbers, if you don't mind me saying. (If you do mind I still disagree though) lol

I disagree too.....
The name I have is MY eve name! It is the name a lot of people know me by. While I might have chosen another name when I started if I had known I'd play EVE for this long, it doesn't really matter as THAT name is now my eve identity.
And in the end, who gives a ****... People would just make 'sensible' names like "ighjgsdhkjdshioer" or "nejsdkhjwelk" instead....

A Brutor called "Brutor Shaun" making a thread complaining about no-thinker braindead names? Ironic much?
Personally I'd prefer that ALL foolish names were removed, but that's just me. I can understand if people are going to name their characters after "callsigns" or the like, but merely lazy names should be removed and the players given 48 hours to come up with an actual name. ----------------------------------------------

And if I had the choice I would happily change it. Brutor Shaun has been my only Eve character, and if I'd known I was going to be playing more than 2 years down the line I would have put a bit more thought into it. At least my name isn't 12345forumtroll54321.

Most, if not nearly all, the isk pharmers I've seen had names without numbers. Plus isk sellers who spam local have names like 'afhsdkljfgbasgb' so perhaps we need to ban letters as well.
My original sig was 'Enjoy lag free play in a dynamic space MMORPG'. It was remove for lack of EVE content! ;) |

Well, I have numbers in my name and wish I didn't. Unfortunately 'Chronus' was already taken when I started Eve. But, I guess after all it's still just a name. -----

Disagree.
My name is spelled this way because 5 years ago somebody created a trial account and created a character called Redshift that was probably flown for one day, and since then nobody else has been able to use the name.
Unless CCP rename old 'defunct' characters and free up natural names for the active community, then numbers in names will continue to be the only way for us to create meaningful names without resorting to additional words or improper spelling to get the same meaning.

LOL
I was named after the Industrial Planet Ix in the Dune Series of books, most ppl seem to think it is the Roman numeral for 9, I have found out since I have been using this nick (and I was useing it before Eve) that the Planet is named Ix as it is the 9th from the sun in that system...
names are names, IMO as long as it is possible to say them over team speak they are fine

Hehe. It would obviously be impossible and silly to ban numbers from names.
However, I do sympathise. There are few things more immersion-breaking than seeing throwaway names with numbers in them.
With a few smart exceptions (like Prisoner doodah above) numbers in names make you suddenly aware that you're not actually floating around in a vast s-f universe hundreds of thousands of years in the future, as a free agent.
With a few smart exceptions, numbers in names remind you're that you're actually sitting at a computer playing a MMO with a bunch of fellow spotty herberts.
Numbers in names bring you right back to the 21st century and its, erm, social problems, with a jolt
