Originally by: RuriHoshino I would like to see engine balance addressed as well. Those extra nozzles on the Stabber might give it speed, but controling it with that much thrust imbalance on one side would be impossible.
HOWEVER, the rust and sails and random conduits of our old ships, the heavy plating and massive shield generators of our new ships, all scream functionality, which has a beauty all it's own. The Typhoon has a large drone bay, so how do we launch and recover them? Make a big hole in the front!
Whoever said it's not a faction, it's a way of life got it exactly right. I'm proud of our scrapheaps and wouldn't exchange them for anything.
Just remember the ships are in space such things as size and shape has little to do with how it will fly in space.
Well if you go by that logic then every time you click approach you should get a burst of engine power and not see any more engine trails/flame till you change direction again. Also you should turn your sound off.

Matari ships are awesome and firt into the story perfectly. I always thought they were the most pirate looking ships since pirates generally work in no-mans land and have to work with what they can throw together whilst fed/empire/etc have funding and such so their ships look much nicer and better designed.

Minmatar cruisers look awful but the Battleships and BCs look cool, I like the Rifter but it looks to much like a fighter than a large frigate.

They work, they're just not pretty. So don't say no self-respecting engineer would make them.
Why do you want them to bring in Asians? You want Minmatar ships to look anime-style? Yeah, that'd really fit.

minmatar ships&amarr ships i like the best. not because of thier visual look but they looks real, they looks something you would fly in space in the future. usability>appearance. just image when would you fly something that looks assembled from few block of bricks (caldari) or giant sex organ simulating shaped ships? in real life? preforming artists to protest something may be, protest against AID or something

Edited by: Victor Ivanov on 02/12/2007 19:14:08 I think it's more a loss of potential.
Minmatar ships are flying rusty pieces of scrap metal. How much more artistic freedom do you need? Seriously, with flying scrapheap as foundation, imagine the kind of awesome looking ships you could build.
So while Trinity is awesome, and most everything is purely awesome, I can't see the difference between the current Tempest and the new Tempest. Seriously. Go log on sisi and check. Couldn't they have at least made a slight effort on it? Same with the maelstrom, can't spot any difference at all.
Stabber and vagabond are dissapointing, claymore and sleipnir haven't changed much except slightly different colour windows. Sabre is pretty much exactly the same except for the solar panels.
I abhor "spoiled" players who whine as much as the next guy, but compare the changes made to the Amarr, Caldari and gallente ships. Take the megathron for example! Beautiful! You can tell that a ton of effort was put into making it prettier, while keeping the old shape.
Hell, Amarr looks gorgeous too, and even Caldari are very aesthetically pleasing.
So what happened? I love the Minmatar ship design, it didn't require much changing: But some additions, some reworking, some extra doodads or slight alterations may have been nice. It's somewhat sad that I have to resort to flying ships that I haven't specced for to even notice that I'm running the Premium content. :(
Edit: To the guy above me, and people that use the "You don't like the end result, don't fly it" argument:
It's not about disliking the end result of CCP's work, it's a question of "Was there enough work put into Matari ships when juxtapositioned with the amount of work the other races have received"? ----------------------

Actually, i think Minmatar ships are the best designed ones. They often have irregular shapes, are not symmetrical (yeah, so is Caldari, but those look like they have been made with lego bricks, and i mean duplo with that), and look might threatening. Sometimes, they look like Kilrathi ships. Ah, if we could fly Kilrathi ships, that would be so nice. ___________________________________

I'd settle for having the Ragnarok traded in for the look of the Bentusi mothership.

I second that. My main flies all ships below capital, and I like my Minnie boats most, esp the Hurricane for it's beefy, aggressive good looks. The Damnation takes a second for the black-over-gold scheme of the current pre-trinity model.
I can remember back in the day when I first joined the game Minnies were sub-par and whining all the time. Now it's the Amarr whining (they were King back in the day)... my my how the coin turns.

When you look at the Thrasher head-on, it looks like some kind of Cybernetic version of the face of Eddie from Iron Maiden. Just even the concept of that raises Minmatar coolness points by like...a million.

Amarr ships are glorious. Minmatar ships are awesome. Gallente ships are acceptable. Most Caldari ships look like flying aggregrations of lego blocks.
I don't think you have anything to complain about.

Edited by: Kurogauna on 03/12/2007 21:19:14 since the begining, eve wasn't brillant both interms of design and technic.
With trinity, ccp updated his engine, but the design is still ugly.
Gallente are now hello kittish peace keeper. Minmatar still look like nothing Amaar are now soul less The calda won ... but that easy, they were the ugliest .
You know, i think seriously to quit that game. Nothing remain for ever and that game is going in the wrong way.

i think i know the reason:
minmatar ships = best race (at least since gallente nerf), worst look (until gallente nerf) amarr ships = worst race, best look
its simple like this. imagine amarr would look great AND have a weapon system which doesnt suck... everybody would play amarr.

When I first started looking into eve each race seemed to inspire a a certain design philosophy, they don't seem to stick to it, but all have examples of what I think best expresses their racial character through design.
Amarr: Sleek and symetrical, they consider their ships sacred and build them to look like religous art Examples: Armageddon, Apocolyps (it's pretty much 100% actually, I just don't know many amarr names that well)
Gallente: Organic, the Gallente are free thinkers and value expression, out of all the races they are most apt to engineer their ships to be unique and expressive of individuality, as well as probably the only ones who would take the time and spend the extra money on designing asymetrical ships with the right propulsion layout Examples: Thorax, Megathron, Hyperion, Brutix, Maulus
Caldari: Blocky Utilitarian SYMETRICAL, Caldary ships are designed to get the job done, they wouldn't bother doing extra work to acheive the same ends. Examples: Merlin, Cormerant, Caracal, Ferox, Drake, Rokh
now for the long one...
Minmatar: Sleek Angular Utilitarian Symetrical, Matari designs would be simple but effective, the whole built from scrap idea is somewhat deceptive, you don't mass produce scrap, as someone else said it's also much easier to design thruster layouts for symetrical shapes and the Matari wouldn't waste time with that kind of work with the Amarr breathing down their necks. Think of a ship who's hull is constructed of flat armor plates cut from sheets and then welded at the points where they join, not alot of protrusions, posibly early designs relying on solar power to supplement reactors. Examples: Rifter, Hurricane, Malestrom. ... Why do I PvP? Because I love the feeling I get when I see the pretty lights and know that someone somewhere is screaming incoherently at their computer screen. |

Caldari ship designs are the most pig disgusting things I have ever see.
As if all Caldari ships were designed by two engineers, one for the left side and one for the right side, and they never met.
Amarr has the most beautiful. Nice and symmetrical. Followed by Minmatar, like the rugged looks, and stay symmetrical for the most part, Breacher/Hound being my favorite frig design.
And Gallente, they're not third best, they're second ugliest. How can descedants of French people not see a problem in designs that aren't so aesthetically pleasing.
I'll never pilot Caldari ships, I just can't stand looking at one. I look at Star Wars ships and think, wow, aweomse space ships, maybe CCP should hire some of those guys.
