I am thinking of starting a Newspaper for the Eve Universe. Before I started spending time and isk on the idea I would like to know what you think. Here are the ideas I have thought of so far.
5 Reporters
3- Reports on the Economics of Eve, market trends, and interviews with the largest movers and shakers of the Universe.
2- Reports on the wars of Eve. From the now "Great War" to the endless Merc wars, to let people know whos shooting who. Interviews with Cololation and Allaince pilots and leaders, and with the handful of well-Knowen Merc corps Ceo's and pilots.
My questions for you
What other areas of the game should be reported on?
Do you belive that people would actually read it?
Should we charge a fee weekly for it?
How often should we publish the paper?
Please, any thoughts, ideas, flaming, would help. I'm planing on hiring at least 5 other players to help me run it and keep the story's coming in. So, if you would like to apply for a position please convo me in game.

My memory is quite bad: What was that old news website back in 03 and 04... Eve Guardian? I used to read that website every day for the news updates.
So I'll say there's definitely a market of readers out there.

Just a thought, as you would/should like to do something different and complementary rather than compete with the Eve Tribune.

make sure your "reporters" know how to write fair and balanced articles with at least 3 (three) sources for every "fact" they assert.
fact-checking is paramount.
using somebody's alts to get around the 3 source rule doesnt count...

Well, this time was also the first time they included ads in the videos. If we had downloadable videos then we (the viewers) could simply fast forward through the ads (like Tivo). With the way CCP distributed the videos this time, we were forced to watch the ads in real time.
Also, as Eve continues to grow the servers have a harder time supporting the new players. So server lag is getting worse. Now I frequently lag 1-4 seconds in sparsely populated systems like Aphend with 30-40 in local. This isn't right.
Then there are systems like Jita....
With 190,000 paying EVE customers and game time costing $11-15/month, CCP collects from us $2.1-2.8 million/month ($25-34 million/year). Server upgrades? |

EVE Tribune is a tabloid. If the New Eden Times aims to be a reputable source of news, he'll be doing something different

We will do our best, of that I will promise you. Taking what you have all said, I have decided it best to have at least 3 sources for a story. So, the facts will come out. I have no desire to see this paper become a tabloid. I hope it will become one of the few things in even that does not have a 2nd meaning in its words. And to Eulalinda. I am sorry, but we will not be able to question CCP on things like that. As far as I know there is no direct way to talk to CCP to ask them. If we where able to I would defiantly run a story about it. However, I will ask around and and make a forum post on our website and see what other players think. My apologizes.

Can you at least publish one article per day?
Will the newspaper be in a blog format?
Please dont charge. But you can ask for ISK donations if the articles are good enough.
Will you accept fan fiction stories?
How will you pay your writers? ISK? Or is it volunteer?

I'm not sure exactly how you can get the most accurate war coverage without being there yourself. Of course if you're actually there, then you're a target and will more than likely end up in a pod or worse.

Our paper will come out once a week as it stands now due to having a very small staff. (3 including me)
It will be in forum format.
We will not charge, but will ask for donations to cover the 30 million monthly isk fee for our website.
Our staff are all volunteers.
I was not going to release the website intill it was ready buy I will give you all a sneak peak Website

Eve Tribune is more like a magazine about EVE than a newspaper. It caters chiefly to PvPers. I would enjoy one that has more focus on empire events. If you need a reporter on events from Minmatar space, I could fill that role (but I would be heavily biased in favor of the Minmatar).

The NewEden Times, as said, is forum based and as such, there is really no real "schedule", even if there is
Such as my questions and answers section, which will be open around the clock and only dependent on the question amounts and how often i can take the time to answer.
The reports are more weekly and can be read on the forums, as some other stuff is "free timetable.
