Because the hulls are retrofitted to use pods (and because the crew will want to be able to at least limp home once the bastard capusuleer abandons them, as s/he inevitably will). GÇ£If you're not willing to fight for what you have in GëívGëí you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.GÇ¥

OK, but isnt that like saying modern cars still have horse hitches on them because they were retrofitted from the horseless carriage? Just how old are these ship designs and where are the lazy bastards that are supposed to be designing the modern ones? They still have full bridge crews in those cockpits running various aspects of the ship. Just because you have total control doesn't mean you need every single bit of data from hundreds of ship systems running through your head every second.
Having people on the bridge that can monitor the less important systems while you focus important stuff is a big help. |

Not really, since we still use crews, at least most of the time.
The latest book was pretty explicit about it, more than the previous ones.
A capsuleer has a hard time running a ship for an extended period of time without a crew. One of the rare capsuleer protagonists nearly drives himself crazy piloting a Myrm by himself for a while.
Its pretty weird since we never see much of a sign or mention of them. We don't pay them. We don't spend any time dealing with crewing our ships. And the damn lazy bastards can't even pilot the ship to me when I want them to. Nooooo I have to get in a shuttle and fly to them, before they will undock.
Its one of the things that is pretty weird about EVE.

I just assumed that we take drunk people in the early morning. When they wake up, suddenly they're on board the ship and they don't have a choice in the matter.
I mean that's what pirates do. |

I sort of look at it like the new BSG series. There is a "Cylon" sitting in a tub, directly connected to the ship, controlling it. While the others inhabit/maintain it. If EvE WiS is Space Barbie, then I'm built like a Ken Doll:

I'd also guess that the reason wrecks aren't covered in a cloud of carnage is because, well, there's like 3 I beams and a space mashing machine left in a wreck for a ship the size of a skyscraper. That, and I feel throwing the crew in the engine is how you overheat modules. |

Watch the Miniseries first. It starts with the attacks and explains where the "humanoid" cylons some in. If EvE WiS is Space Barbie, then I'm built like a Ken Doll:

Im a fan of the classic series (back when gratuitous sex wasnt need to keep you interested in a sci-fi series or prove that "we are all adults here" by acting like horny adolescents) The whole humanoid cylon thing kind'a killed it for me. it was just the studio's way of saving money without having to do any fancy special effects/costumes. Just 2... but a long show... something like 4 hours.
