So, since "Dreadnought" is already taken, a much better name would be "Juggernauts." At least it sounds less like a sex toy. :D
Just think of the enjoyment mission runners will have when they scream out that tired two-year-old internet catchphrase while jumping into the bonus room of AE.
Granted, the name "Juggernaut" would also be a good name for the dreadnought corrolary to the mothership - a "second-tier" dread with greatly-enhanced self-defense and offensive capabilities.

seriously, with the description they gave about the long-term BS nature they gave to the Violators, I doubt you can think up a name that wouldnt sound questionable -

What are you talking about ?
A new bigger-than-BS ship type for empire space ?

Considering they are meant to last longer without stops to reload... they should maybe be named Duracells

Edited by: Khan Dhu on 18/09/2007 09:33:36 I was under the impression two new types of BS were coming - I thought the Violators were the mission-runners and "Infiltrators" were the "recon" battleships.

Mission-runner BS was a misnomer. Oveur said they were making a battleship class able to get by on its own in deep space for a significantly longer time than other ships do. Also, they are supposed to be more multipurpose than other battleships, ideally to the point where it would be impossible to predict what they have fitted.
Or so he says.

The "Juggernaught" term is already potentially taken by a class of fleet battle capital ships: sort of Dreads with more guns and without a siege mod. At least someone form CCP said they liked the idea, and might some day create those ships.
What bother me about the "Violator" name is that, in french, Viol = rape. Another name might be preferable by far... ------------------------------------------

Well imo Violator does sound like a sex toy... not one i'd buy personally but i imagine many would I guess we'll have to see what the gallente one looks like, maybe it's an oversized version of the thorax, then i guess it all falls into place with the name!

Attacks from the rear, behind the lines? Fits pretty well, imo.
Great stuff Aramendel, I had completely forgotten about those.

Same in spanish, "violar" = "to rape" and a "violador" (very close to violator) is a person who commit this sexual assault. ________________________________________

Yeah, Violator is really not a great name. "Patrolers" would be more in keeping with the long operating range-nature of the ship.

I think this is the case of the Icelandic dev team using a bad internet translator. . I also don't like the name, in many latin-based languages it is too close to "rape".

Besides, all the other ship classes have names representing what they do/what they are: interdictors interdict, battleships are ships for mainstream battle, interceptors intercept, etc.
How does one "violate" in military parlance?

Are you entirely unfamiliar with the concept of "violating a border"?
Originally by: The Dictionary vi+o+late /ˈvaɪəˌleɪt/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[vahy-uh-leyt] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation űverb (used with object), -lat+ed, -lat+ing. 1.to break, infringe, or transgress (a law, rule, agreement, promise, instructions, etc.). 2.to break in upon or disturb rudely; interfere thoughtlessly with: to violate his privacy. 3.to break through or pass by force or without right: to violate a frontier.
Just because you sad little people feel the need to associate everything with sex, does not mean that words like violate or *****mean only or even primarily that. Are we going to rename the Prowler, because it can also mean "To rove furtively or with predatory intent"? good lord just like a sexual predator!
I'm personally quite fond of the name 'Violators' for a battleship designed to violate sovereignty borders, and to remain in violation for extended periods of time. ------

Perhaps we forget that CCP are Viking descendants. Those Vikings use to do three things, Loot/Pillage, Kill and "Violate"...

Well, all the other ship classes are, or are variations thereof (there are no "interdictors" IRL, but "to interdict" is a mission verb). I guess it doesn't NEED to be, but it would be nice if it was.
