doesn't really matter what they are officially named. People are gonna call them HAB's (Heavy Assualt Battleship) And as much as CCP says they aren't, that is what they will resemble the most.

I cannot think of a better name for ships designed for deep penetration of enemy territory.
I know, it was an easy one . Raep mobiles has more of a ring to it, though.

How does one "violate" in military parlance?
Are you entirely unfamiliar with the concept of "violating a border"?

Just because you sad little people feel the need to associate everything with sex, does not mean that words like violate or *****mean only or even primarily that. Are we going to rename the Prowler, because it can also mean "To rove furtively or with predatory intent"? good lord just like a sexual predator!
I'm personally quite fond of the name 'Violators' for a battleship designed to violate sovereignty borders, and to remain in violation for extended periods of time.

The dictionary description doesn't really fit the "prolonged stays behind enemy lines" description. "Foremost position" sounds like spearhead forces to me, like armored panzergruppen in WW2, while "behind enemy lines" sounds like saboteur action, interdiction (not in Eve sense of the word), hit and run stuff but not being in direct contact with main forces.
Still, after Violator, yours is the suggestion I like the most.

I am really sorry, but due to high levels of violence, this game is inadequate for 4 year old little girls, like those shocked about a possible meaning of the word which is not implied by any means by the ship purpose. (unless the tentacle weapon system is really introduced)
And for the French wussies complaning about the meaning of a similar stem in French, well, I don't know if you are aware, but English is NOT French. Just to let things clear.

It depends on how you look at it. The "long operating range" battleship could be a boon to a vanguard force, since it could stay at the forefront of an advance longer without having to wait for logistic resupply. So calling them Vanguard battleships isn't too out there. It's all in the spin, you see

What does that have to do with anything? Who said that this game was a english one? And frankly, CCP had this coming since they inserted a french race and not a english one into the game.
But yea, I couldnt care less about the name of the class since its not sexist in any way. Allthough I do like 'Flagship' better.

The game is in English. The site is in English. The Ship names are in English. The fact that there is a French descendency in one of the game races (as there are oriental descendances in all races) is completely irrelevant here, as what the stem is used for in French is as well. Violators perfectly describe the ships' job. If you have any traumas about the word it is not my problem, neither it is CCP's.

This game is an English game made by an Icelandish manufacture with LIMITED support for other languages. The ship names are English. Most gallente ships for example are English names for greek gods. Minmatar are english names for natural phenomena and predators. Caldari ships are english names for Birds. Weapons and module names are all English. The fact that your interface can be configured not to be in English due to your lazyness to use the language that, want you or not, is the common language of the world is your problem.
And just for your information, English is not my primary language. I am Brazilian.

Right, if someone wants to play a game in their native tongue, they're automatically stupid lazy foreign slobs haha amirite foreigners eh.
Yeah, get out of the damn thread. The name has offensive connotations in multiple romanic languages. It has offensive connotations in English. The archaic uses are non-rape-related, but that's what they are. Archaic. It's also unfitting for the ship class as a whole, and would be far more suited to a BS HAC-style ship, regardless of which usage of the word you subscribe too as primary.
I'd be happy for a name change, not because of the negative connotations (this is EVE, murder, blackmail and theft are all order of the day), but because it's an unfitting name from what we've been told as of yet. Of course, if it turns out to be a HABS then sure, keep the name violator for the sake of irony.
Now please, stop your ridiculous derail about how anyone speaking any other language than English is lazy, because you're a goddamn idiot.

Hrm if thhat weapon gets introduced, Perhaps I will call mine LoliMonster, just for a good reference to the old tentacle *****monsters from japanese cartoons.
Gotta love the tentacle, now out of curiosity is it Ewar or straight out dps? Lol.
Anyway seriously guys, with the amount of languages in the world, its not exactly easy to come up with mean sounding named for a battleship in a scifi war, without touching on some languages naughty words. So get naffed and learn to tolerate.
*NOTE: I'm australian, so don't get me started about WW2 and the French.*

The utter proof of idiocy here is given by someone that misquotes, my friend. But I concur that properly quoting is a bit difficult to some people...
Yes, if something is written or designed in a given language and you have the choice of reading it in that language and you don't you are lazy and stupid, sorry. Many things are lost or lose their mining on translations. If for the sake of comodity you decide to cope with, you are indeed lazy.
And there is no such a thing as a name with offensive connotations. Offensive connotations may be inferred from any word. That is the biggest failure of this politically correct bull**** that infects our world like a rotting disease.
Bottomline: the name is perfect, your sensibilities are the problems. Go play pokemon, and leave us alone.

From November on all ships will require fuel. The violators just need less, that is why they can stay longer in hostile space. Makes no sense otherwise. Really.
