first off sorry for poor english , as i didnt get any responses when i posted in proper section... let me post it here
Tell me your opinions about this:
Simple add in game achievements!
Once you complete achivements you will get some form of medal or/or some kind of reword.Il make couple of examples :
Razor : Achievement Description: Destroy 100 enemy pods . Reward: medal player can put into medal tab under players info and or lets say 1000 skill points he can distribute anywhere . Slayer : Achievement Description : Destroy 100 enemy pods : Reward : Reward: medal player can put into metal tab under players info and or lets say 1000 skill points he can distribute anywhere .
now you can put achievements for killed POS, POS structures , Station take overs.... SOV takeovers , each next will take more kills than last one and get better reward. Example agin 100 kills, 500 kills , one thousand kills... 2500 kills or 10 towers destroyed. 100 towers destroyed ... 10 system takeovers... etc etc
With this people would like to PVP more ... they will get sligh boost to SP (one can get i dont know 100 000 SP more each month MORe than a player who is not active just clickick skills)
This way player who ACTUALLY play the game not just click the skils will get slightly advantage (not a big one but still rewording one) and he will for sure get will to play more game
What about PVE guys ? well add PVE achieevements aswell
Achievement for achiving certain faction standing... kill 10 , 100 of 10/10 plexes... Achivement for oficier hunting : example Tuvan's nightmare :Achievement Description: Destroy 5 Tuvan's ships . Reward: medal player can put into metal tab under players info and or lets say 1000 skill points he can distribute anywhere . and so on... Even Achivements for incursions , Factional warfare....
You guys(if i can you can also) come up with thousands of this achievements if not more and trust this will make game more playable. An people will change carriers . You may ask my why ? Well once guy deplete all achivements in high sec he will go to 0.0 to complete those achievements also , thanlowsec... than wh..... than he will try Industry to complete those achievements also . You will revive EvE alot .
You can also put a bonus to complete certain section of achivements : Example:
Oficier hunter: Kill all known Oficiers in known universe: Now reword can be again 10 000 of sp or 100 000 or meybe even some extra increase in Sec Status , or faction standing... what ever.. just make it rewarding an make it people WANT to complete that feat.
What do you think guys ?
p/s those medals would be cool if Person could be able to see them on its shoulder When he WIS |

Actually the basis of the OP's idea is good, just needs to be refined a bit.
Player corporations already have the ability to give out Medals to players which are displayed in the character info box. I'm not sure but I think Factional Warfare also gives out Medals.
That's about it.
Hell, I remember when I completed the SoE Epic Arc the first time it was installed into the game, I was very disappointed. I was expecting a much better ending and reward. I remember thinking I should of at least got a Medal to show off in my character info box. I mean come on, this was an EPIC ARC. All the Epic Arcs should give out Medals for completion. Hell, for that matter, all of the Career Agents should also give out a Medal for completion.
I remember completing a mission for Concord Agent Christer Fuglesang and the reward was an implant and a Medal.
There's also some Cosmos Agents that give out Medals as part of the mission reward.
There's also other Medals that are gained for completing various PvE activity's in Eve.
I think at one time CCP had the intention to make those Medals able to show in the Character info box but somehow the idea kinda got sidetracked. |

Well here, don't choke on this, ACHIEVEMENTS EXISTED WELL BEFORE WORLD OF WARCRAFT you mindness zombinooobs! If you had a clue about what you were talking you'd knew that.
And yeah the guys at blizzard does a lot more money then you do, but we all knew that already.
OP I 200% agree with you. Achievements are the kind of things that get you attached to your char, time investment and stuff. And character attachment is one of those things that makes you stick around or come back again to a game when you are a MMO player.
But seriously when you see all the nay sayers on this forum I come to wonder how old the average users are? 80 years old?

Raiykjab wrote:HAHAHA so much frustration over WOW, you guys are jealous caus few ppl play your game?! ha right?! of course I'm right. nope, we are actually scared that "our" game might attract an even more mainstream audience than it already does.
Of course nobody wants EVE to become another Darkfall but I think (hope) I am not alone in not wanting it to become another WoW either.
A lot of "filters" that made people quit EVE early on have been removed during the last few years and I don't think EVE has become a better place as a result of it.
WoW is a fine game for what it does (I actually played WoW and raided tier12 this summer while I had cancelled my EVE accounts over monoclegate) but I wouldn't want EVE to attract the same audience as WoW.
Currently one of the biggest remaining "filters" in EVE is that the game doesn't tell you what to do. There are no quest lines to follow, no achievements and titles to grind for, no PvE challenges, no fun in "leveling" another alt, ... A person who is unable to set their own goals will find the game dead boring and quit after the first few weeks - and that's a thing I really like.
I really like Lego. It was the favorite toy of my childhood. When I started playing with it, Lego was very sandbox-y. "Here are some general purpose bricks, now go and build something with it."
In contrast Playmobil was a lot more theme-park like - much more detailed models and accessories but no real way to build things on your own. You don't buy a bag of bricks, you buy a police station which will always stay a police station because it is one single piece of plastics.
However, many children appeared to be completely lost with Lego. They didn't know what to build and what to play because nobody told them and they somehow didn't know how to set up their own goals and stories.
So as market-share slipped Lego became a lot more themepark-like and when I walk past a toy-store today most of the Lego kits seem to be frankly crap - very specialized items, licensed movie franchises, a lot of flashy and "cool" things with very little re-usability past their intended purpose. I have two cousins in primary school and the Lego kits they own and the way they play with them is fairly depressing. However, I hear that this shift has helped Lego tremendously in overcoming the financial crisis it suffered ca. 2000-2005 (with franchises like Star Wars and Indiana Jones being extremely successful).
Maybe I am getting old but I wish Lego had sticked to the sandbox of general purpose bricks instead of marginalizing that aspect of gameplay in favor of the themepark. |

It has been suggested before, also in the wrong forum, and was shot down just as quickly as it was this time. You don't need the game to set achievements for you, you can do that yourself, and everyone else will care just as much about it.

Next they'll be wanting special rewards for their special achivements. Here have a tabard.

This says more about about people than it does about eve.
I think eve will be just fine without achievements and an army of twats.
Besides the day eve's future relys on the teeming mass of entitled children that comprise the playerbase of most mmos will be a sad day. Safety in obscurity and un-user-friendlyness has worked pretty well for 8 years , at this rate we might cram in 8 more.
Also giving away information in eve is often seen as bad, I mean how many people have their certificates on show for all to see and potentialy manipulate? Although I do miss seeing being able to see the standings, made me feel that all the mission grinding had achieved more than iskies. |

God, I can't believe how moronic the majority of replies are in this thread. Lately there seems to be a big opposition to change. Well, time to wake up. Eve has been and always will be changing.
First of all, Killmail statistics are not an achievement even though some of you seem to think it is. If it was, there would be some sort of commendation or award granted to you by the game. Certificates are simply a way to show what level your skills are at as well as being a simple guide to help plan your skill training.
The game itself does give various objectives to complete which are known as missions. Cosmos, Factional Warfare, Epic Arcs, Storyline and regular agents all give various objectives or 'quests' to complete. The main reward for completing those missions, besides the usual ISK and various items, is a standing increase with Faction, Corporation and Agent. Standings used to be easily seen in the character info box, standings tab. Since that option was recently removed by CCP, I see no problem in having Medals represent some of those achievements.
As I stated earlier, the game already gives out a few different Medals for completing some of those missions. Adding a few more Medals and allowing them all to be viewed in the character info box for all to see isn't going to break the game. It actually adds a bit more content to the game and also serves to enrich the role playing aspect of the game.
FYI: CCP advertises this game as EVE Online - a massive multiplayer online roleplaying space game ...
Next time please think before opening mouth and inserting foot. By the way, don't waste your time telling me to go back to that other game. Eve Online is the only MMORPG I've ever played.

So as market-share slipped Lego became a lot more theme park-like and when I walk past a toy-store today most of the Lego kits seem to be quite frankly crap - very specialized items, licensed movie franchises, a lot of flashy and "cool" things with very little re-usability past their intended purpose. Maybe I am getting old but I wish Lego had stuck to the sandbox of general purpose bricks (and accepted having to down-size its business if necessary) instead of marginalizing that aspect of game play in favor of the theme park. I don't want to EVE to become like this http://www.lego.com/en-us/products/default.aspx and the only way to prevent this from happening is by keeping the theme park audience a mile away from the game. LEGO still owns and except for there action figure line there still awesome to build what ever you want with. The new stuff just has more sweet pieces (no more fights over who gets the 4 peg cylinder). just buy one and see. The alien invasion ones are 300% more win than the space ones from 93'.
Fixed it for you.

Actually, we already have achievements, medals and funky titles in the game. But since it's a sandbox, they are created by player corps and alliances (and some NPC in FW?). Giving a corp the ability to use medals as a achievement badge is emphatically NOT the same as CCP setting up achievements for everyone to grind towards, especially considering the OP.
Even the closest thing in the game to a real achievement (FW Ranks) are pretty weak, and I can't say I've ever heard anyone say "hey, I'm going to join Amarr militia to grind up fleet admiral" or whatever it is. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/39006524/DumbHiseccers.jpg |

DMC, what do you think an achievement system would add to the game? From my own experience with WoW, not only do achievements prompt players to waste literally months doing stupid things, but they also cause friction within guilds/corps as achievement whores try to pressure their mates to help them get ever more achievements. Endlessly. |

I honestly think Achievements would be a terrible idea in eve.
Purely because it sets goals and targets for the player, the whole point is we are in a sandbox free to do whatever we want. If you want some kind of "Own ten ships" or something achievement, just go and do it. Don't need anything formal for it.

I must be the only person that likes the idea. Cheevos are cool, gives you something to do when you're bored. They're in many sandbox games too (GTA etc) and would be a harmless addition to EVE. I would not hand out SP, maybe just have a trophy cabinet in your CQ with all the Cheevos on it |

While I don't like the idea of achievements in EVE, it would be cool to have an in-game stat-tracker. Counts how many pod kills you get, etc. You don't get a reward for it, but you can see it. |

Wouldn't mean a damn thing. People would just exploit them, letting their alliances pod them and podding their buddies to get those achievements. The only way you could possibly even think about implementing something like this is by making it exclusive to PvE, and thus remove the ability to exploit it. Most people wouldn't bother then. If you bring down a giant, you're a hero. If you kill something weak-even if it has to die-then you will endure contempt. |

So are kill boards, but I still see plenty of them around.
I don't see why an achievement system is so bad. Like the certificate system, just bury it so it's not in everyone's face. Those who groove on that kind of stuff can admire themselves and those who don't just never click that link.

Wow-eske achieves aren't a good idea...
the GENERAL idea is okay, remember sandbox..., i like the idea of extending medals, for example my corp is currently giving out medals for the people who join in the first 6 months of creation...
perhaps as stated previously maybe epic arcs give presentable medals as well as other special missions giving them out too... THOSE are achieves!
id say something like "you guys are friggen Aholes for being so mean to new ideas, bad or good..." but then again mittens is CSM chairman so....

I was referring mainly to the OP's idea about getting Medals that show in the character info box. There's already an achievement system in-game which I had mentioned earlier.
The game itself gives various objectives to complete which are known as missions. Cosmos, Factional Warfare, Epic Arcs, Storyline and regular agents all give various objectives or 'quests' to complete. The main reward or achievement for completing those missions, besides the usual ISK and various items, is a standing increase with the Faction, Corporation and Agent. All standings used to be easily seen in the standings tab of the character info box. Since that option was recently removed by CCP, I see no problem in having Medals represent some of those achievements.
As I stated earlier, the game already gives out a few different Medals for completing some of those missions. Unfortunately those just sit in the Items Hangar. Adding a few more Medals to the game and allowing them all to be viewed in the character info box for all to see isn't going to break the game. It actually adds a bit more content to the game and also serves to enrich the role playing aspect of the game by allowing players to show off their accomplishments.
Of course each Medal gained for completion would only be received once in the life of the character. This is just an idea:
Career Agents - One Medal for each Career mission series completed. Cosmos Agents - One Medal for each Faction's set of agents completed. Epic Arc Agents - One Medal for each Epic Arc completed. Concord Agents - One Medal for each agent completed. Faction Standing - One Medal for each Faction at +10 standing. Factional Warfare - One Medal for each rank gained. |

actually for career agents they serve as excellent proof of basic training, other than certificates, i think for FW they already have ranks which count for "medals", a medal for standings sounds like a worthy reward seeing how much of a grind it is. im not sure why CCP doesn't think about this..., i bet if CSM brought it up THEN CCP would listen |
