I was annoyed by the fact that i had no easy way to compare exported marketlogs from different regions. So i wrote an application to remedy that.
Here it is. I'd really like your feedback and constructive criticism. Even better, tell me if you find the program useful.

Yes, i had thought about implementing the ability to show the columns that you want, via options or something. But i can quickly add the original column.
I might have time later today :)

Name suggestions appreciated. I liked the eCompare, but I would like it to communicate that it is comparison of regions on market items. If that is at all possible for a relative short name. as you said yourself...too long :)

Sure, i have thought about that and have no problems with it. I just don't know how to proceed.
If i make it open source i guess it would take a lot of administration. My personal time for this is very limited. So if anyone wants to help with it. Then i can release the source for version 1.0 :)

Well you don't need to make it a full blown open source project on like sourceforge. Because yes that does take a lot of administration. You could make it as easy as ziping up your visual studio project folder and uploading that each time you upload a finished version.
I would love to mess with the source a little and tweak a few things to work with some tools/data i already use.

Ive downloaded and installed the app cos this looks really useful. However when i run the program it never seems to detect any market logs.
Do i have to do something special to obtain these logs or is is supposed to take this from something that is generated when i open the market window ?
Ive tried pointing the path in several places, but to no avail. Any assistance would be welcome. Thanks in advance.

First off the marketlogs are obtained by opening the market in Eve and the look up an item your interested in, say "Raven". Then you click the "Export to file" button. If this is the first time you have done this, you will see a dialog box tellign you the path of the file. This will normally be in following folder. The standard folder for market logs is "<my documents folder>\EVE\logs\Marketlogs" check to see if you have any .txt files there. If not then just point Eve Market Scanner to the directory you saw in the dialog box in eve.
The Eve market scanner is not (as the bad naming may imply) an automatic market extractor. I think that would have profound consequences on the Eve economy, if CCP allowed that. So you have to do the work yourself and export every item you want to see. Eve market scanner gets really useful when you export the same item in different regions :)
Good luck with it.

Great program. One thing I notice is some station names (0.0 outposts) are blank. I guess their station id doesn't have a name in the station names file. How would I go about changing this?
edit: Actually it would be great to have a system column in addition to a station column, that would make 0.0 markets far easier since there's only 1 station per system so you don't have to add the constantly changing station names to the file.

I have taken all the station names from the most recent data dump. Are the outposts not NPC stations? If not, then that is why they are not in the list. Maybe you could try and send me a few logs from the regions in particular. I can be reached at eraggan.sadarr (at) gmail dot com

I can do that but it will increase the size of the overall program, so raise your hands if you want this feature :)

I'll take a look at it. It would be helpful if you could tell me what options you have changed, if any. Also your regional/language settings. Your problem is happening when the program is detecting a new file created in your marketlog directory. I can't seem to reproduce it. But if you could give a more detailed description of your steps, i might be able to figure it out. What item was selected at the time you experience the error? What item are you exporting?
Are you manually changing/copying/moving the files in the marketlog dir?
Thanks in advance.
Your questions prompted me to investigate the Marketlogs folder more closely. When I moved all existing marketlog exports into another folder, and downloaded fresh marketlogs, the program worked. This prompted me to see if there was any particular file that caused the error, and it was: My orders - 2007.07.16 2328.txt, as well as any other My orders file in the directory. Moving those out of the directory made the program work.
Suggestion: find a way to deal with My orders file :)

Nicely done, gratz :)
Found a little bug with it though, with regards to how the program reads the marketlog filenames and extracting the module name. It seems it will read the filename, finds the first "-" and expects everything behind it to be the modulename. There are regions that have a "-" in their name (for example: Kor-Azor), and you would end up with modules like "Azor-Small Armor Repairer I".
Just a small thing, not sure if there are any modules with a "-" in their name but if there aren't it's pretty easy to fix this.

Yes. But it doesn't store anything. It loads the logs from the directory that EVE stores them in, or a directory that you define.

You just select the item from a list. This list is genereted from the marketlogs you have exported yourself.
Hope this answers your questions.

Feature thoughts
Can you set up multiple region windows? I typically go through 3-7 systems when doing comparisons.
Or, conversely can you set up some way to find the best prices from each region/systems for buying/selling and display results in one area? For going through as many regions as I, it's almost easy using pen and paper to log it all and look at it in on glance, but you are able to work some magic here, that would be nifty!

My original plan was to dynamically be able to add as many region windows as you wish, but in practice there is just not enough space on the screen (even in my dual monitor setup which gives 3200 pixels width). But i'll think about a find best sell/buy price for a particular item (sort of "find highest buy order in all available regions", and the same for sell, just lowest order).

Hmmm... I have no really easy way of doing this, because modules also have hyphens. Sadly CCP changed the way they export market logs so the filenames are no longer divided by " - " hyphens with spaces but instead just "-" hyphens. This result in no way to differentiate between a divider hyphen and a module or region name hyphen. My only solution so far would be to make a database export of region names and then check each file against theat data and then then module name is the rest og the string until we meet the final hyphen which means the datetime part.
If anyone has a better idea, please post it :)

Well, you could have it count the number of hyphens first. If the number of hyphens is greater than the "uncomplicated" string would be, then have it do the comparison checking. Should eliminate some overhead or processes.

Sadly there is no uncomplicated string as the marketlogs can be with or without a hyphen in both module and region name. So if i just count i will never know which had the extra hyphen if only one of them is present.
But i have fixed it as outlined earlier. New version is up :)

You only have to download the setup file if you want to install and use the application. The source are just available for other developers, or curious people.
And it works with any marketlogs that you have access to from your machine, i.e. you have to be able to point to the files directory (you can do that in options). So you could easily share marketlogs with a friend, and divide the work of exporting them. Just copy to your existing directory. You can even do it while the application is running, as it will automatically detect new files and load them.
I hope that answers your questions, otherwise feel free to ask again :)

What about allowing your soft to optionally interact with EvE CMB? It beats their interface, but would benefit from their database. It would be great if you could use it to sumbit data to ECMB via your soft in exchange fo being able to read data from ECMB on your soft :) Win-win... and of course it would be optional - people could use it as it is now without any interaction with ECMB. -- One day, we will return to the planets... please, CCP? :)

I love this - it's simple, it displays the market information you get in-game but allows you to compare it to another market (assuming you have exported the market data).
To Eraggan - what plans do you have for this app? Just wondering as i would like to put some time into this (ha, time, lol, if i can find some..) - seriously, this application has a lot of potential, the main thing being the same interface as the game.
Please contact me.

This is great work.
I also checked out the other site, i can appreciate the privacy ;). I was wondering, what apps would i need to work on this. I imagine the installer and most of the interface stuff is standard and can be picked up from .Net, would i need a supscription for that? I suppose i would need an editor and a compiler. What did you use?

Thx You would just need the .NET 2.0 framework and a free version of visual studio C# express 2005 or later. You can find the 2008 editions here and i guess they would work just as well as 2008 supports .net 2.0. The solution file will be incompatible after conversion, though. |

Well, i can see on their site that other apps are allowed to ask data from their site although the data is limited to this:
Quote:
<!-- Automatically generated data from EVE-Central.com --> − <market_stat> <typeid>34</typeid> <avg_price>2.5595564449031598</avg_price> <total_volume>97849484907</total_volume> <avg_buy_price>2.1023216290544098</avg_buy_price> <total_buy_volume>49294978811</total_buy_volume> <stddev_buy_price>0.618993435304655</stddev_buy_price> <max_buy_price>4.2400000000000002</max_buy_price> <min_buy_price>0.20000000000000001</min_buy_price> <avg_sell_price>3.2607866144198701</avg_sell_price> <total_sell_volume>48555992610</total_sell_volume> <stddev_sell_price>60401072.277036302</stddev_sell_price> <max_sell_price>3800000000.0</max_sell_price> <min_sell_price>1.0</min_sell_price> </market_stat>
which is not the fullblown set you get from an exported marketlog. But i like the idea and will see if i can get something useful from it when i have the time |

Bal.
First off i want the user to dynamically add/remove more regions for easier comparison. I have also added a minimum quantity filter so it is easier to find those 10.000 parts of salvage you need. After that i'm very open to suggestions So any feedback/input or implemented features are very welcome

First let me say I really like what you have done, thank you. I was going to try to get some functionality out of a spreadsheet, but your application does what I wanted and much more.
I only got it a few hours ago, but one thing I would really like to see is having your column choices 'remembered'. Each time I choose a different item or region I have to add columns, move them to where I like, and adjust their width. If these column adds/placements/widths were 'remembered'(including between sessions), that would be great.
I might also add the capability of resizing the display areas. Resizing is probably the wrong term, but if you could make the two separator lines non static in the same way that you can drag and thereby set the width of each column. Possibly even split the horizontal separator into two individually adjustable separators. 'Remembering' these placements between sessions would be nice, but not nearly as critical as 'remembering' the columns.
Also, the ability to clear each side of the displayed data individually might have some value. Sometimes I just want to see the data from one region without having the old data from my previous comparison cluttering things up. This along with making the display areas sizable will make it easy to see more data columns at once. Now that I think about it, if I was able to adjust the width, I could just drag the separator all the way to one side and thus not see the old data.
I sincerely hope that you will be able to find some value in these suggestions/comments. I have no idea of the coding and time required to implement any of the above, so I will leave it to you to decide whether it is within the scope of your project.
I only read the first and last page of this topic, so if I restated any prior content I apologize. Again, thank you for this application.

Great idea. I have thought of this myself at some point. But had actually forgotten the idea. I will put it on my todo list.

This feature is also on my own wish list. It would take quite a bit of coding though, and has therefore been moved to the "nice to have list". But I also think that it would make a nice coding challenge, and since I'm not the only one wanting this, i might up its priority

The "remebered" regions was an intentional feature because i like the ability to compare two different regions for several items (by just changeing the item). But it would be no problem to make the first list item "Select a region..." clear the list. Also put on the todo list.

At the moment when I see a good price I set the destination to see if it's high or low sec. I avoid low sec stations in my freighter for obvious reasons but I'm always looking for a bargain in hi-sec to buy low, sell high.
I'm sure there's a database out there somewhere with systems and sec level.

I need to know a bit more to help you with that. Have you modified the files? try setting the path to your marketlog files manually in the options dialog. Its usually something like "C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\My Documents\EVE\logs\Marketlogs".
Could you tell me the name of the file that it says it cant parse? |

Actually if there was a option that let you filter out low sec systems completely that would be a HUGE bonus for trading/hauling.
I wish CCP even had that option in-game. |

You have to export the logs yourself...this is sadly not something that can be done automatically. When you look at an item in the market, there is a button called "Export file". That is the one to use....frequently |

As a newbe to Eve I have only just begun exploring the markets but when I ôaccidentallyö found a nice price diff for an item I begun looking for more but had resorted to typing prices into a spreadsheet to remember them; and then I came across your app. YouÆve done a great job, got nothing but praise for it.
Just one stupid question; where are the number of jumps worked out from? I can see they are not related to where I am in Eve at the time.
Thanks again

Sorry, just realised how stupid that queston was; the jumps are taken from the marketlog file aren't they?
Be nice if the app could work out total jumps from one location to another but I realise that would require a database of the entire eve universe, plus I guess most players using this are experienced traders who already have a good knowledge of the typical number of jumps from system A to system B.
So apologies again for my stupidity, but once again thanks for such a great app.

This is intended as a tool for novices and experts alike, but i feel the need for a route planner is not in scope of this app. The data for it readily available, and the shortest path algorithms needed would also be fun to do, but i doubt the value it would bring to the app.
I suggest using one already on the web (fx. Linkage) |

The newbe in me shines through again; didnt know that planner existed. Thanks for the link, and now I totally see why you didnt put that in the app, would have been overkill.

I have problem with market scanner. It dont shows logs from Syndicate region, never used it for null-like region before, but now i try region not from empire and it dont works.
I click load logs, choose item, choose region within empire and in next window Syndicate region, and it's not showing any orders, just like it would be no orders. I checked log, and there are things in it, so i got no idea whats wrong. Something with 0.0 regions? btw. i got checked to filter from 0.0 security in "min. sys sec"

I am tinkering with a new feature, and would like to hear some feedback:
Wallet and journal view based on the Eve API. This would need the full API key from the user (only way to view wallet data). Is there any interest in this feature. I want it myself, because i often just wanna check my wallet for transactions and then discover that its downtime . And if you want this: should you be able to register more than 1 account?
What do you think? |

Thanks for this nifty tool.
My idea to advance would be another one. I would like to be able to load and select from "my orders-xxxx" logs. So instead of selecting from different regions you would select from different logs (different time) and could compare buy and sell orders. The idea is: - to easily decrypt and read the logs - to easily check your history of market orders (offline) and refresh those that ran out with new, similar ones (online)
I would not suggest to implement API functionality. If you concentrate on your offline version and keep it as simple as it is at the moment, I guess many people including me, will prefer your little tool instead of the cumbersome other tools with API. Also, your tools does not need API access so it is more trustworthy for me than those which need API access. |

I like the idea of utilizing the my orders logs. i will look into that. Maybe you could explain in little more detail what you feel would be useful. Regarding the API functionality. My idea was just an offer to be able to see your wallet - journal and transactions. The API would not be a requirement to use the program. More like a little sort of addon. I just really liked the idea of having the wallet when offline, so i could do a little more planning. So it would in no way complicate the tool. I like it simple myself |

Well, the first and easiest step would be to load and display those logs. Next would be to sort these orders on both sides so that orders with the same ID are next to each other. I'm not into the mechanics of orders but I hope if you change your order (buy/sell price) it does not get a new ID even if the time is reset. I would use that first in daily business, then new ideas will evolve for new features. Maybe an assistent that checks all logs available and returns a summary for one item at one place could be useful. But it had to be easy to set up and return useful information, not just a lot of numbers none cares about. I know that sounds vague, but I'm a bit to lazy at the moment to work out a bundle of funtions. |

Thx for the input Maru Sha. Please feel free to add more if you get any ideas. Regarding the "My orders": It would be no problem displaying the latest. i guess the previous exported "my orders" would be interesting for history issues. I was also thinking of an item selection tree, like the eve market, for easier selection of related items. The question is how to utilize the "my orders" for more interesting stuff. Any suggestions are welcome. |

If you mean when the log is displayed in the gridview windows. and it looks like the data is rolling down the screen. Then yes. The redraw performance of the .NET DataGridView is very poor :(
I have tried many workarounds, but none have worked so far. |

I would like to be able to see a user defined number of markets, each opening up a new window pane*. For example, I'd like to see the same item information from Lonetrek, The Forge, Sinq Liason, The Citadel, Tash Murkon, etc. Right now I'm doing it by using multiple instances of your program, but it'd be interesting to have it user-defined.

Noted, this is on my todo list as i feel this would increase the value of the app by a large amount. Others have asked for this and i would like to see it myself. Sadly i'm a bit short on time the next couple of months, so i cannot say when i have the time to implement it (its a fairly large amount of code that needs changing). |

What format is the source code file? It's not text, not a zip file, StuffIt can't open it...
Anyway, I'm on a Mac, does anyone know of a Mac version, even a primitive one, of something like this?
At least is there a Item ID# > Item name and StationID# to Station name list somewhere?
Then I can write a primitive market log reader for myself.

It's packed with 7-zip (Open source), which unfortunately isn't available for mac it seems (I thought it was).
The Item name/item id and station relations are dumps i have made from the eve datadump (dump of some of the tables in the eve DB).
Sorry about no mac support but it might work on the MONO framework although i havn't tested it.

If anyone have run Eve Market Scanner on the MONO framework on linux or mac, then please post your results.
N.B. Don't mind the grayed out "View wallet" option. It's for a future feature. I just didn't have time to remove it. |

...best of luck with your app.
I had done this a while back (in php) to identify market cycles etc.for multiple NPC items to highlight intra-region/system trades.
The tedium of downloading the market snapshots for multiple items, on a regular basis, was overwhelming.
...but then patience has never been my strong suit. ;)

Yes, I agree that the marketlog exports a very tedious. I made the app to quickly identify the cheapest sell order in between two regions, so for me it's a very specific process, and therefore not that tedious. I guess that's what most use it for |

This is a helpful, easy tool, so I sent some isk.
Suggestion for future: I would like to see some sort of summary comparison of sell orders for each item I've exported. If I've downloaded, say, 20 different items across 8 regions, it's very time consuming to go through and find the largest price difference. There are tools out there that will compare sell orders to buy orders, but I haven't seen one that compares sell orders.
As an examples, I'd love to see a summary screen like this:
Item/Lowest Sell/Highest Sell/Difference/% Difference
Roes/170 isk (Rens 8-Brutor)/210 isk (Jita IV-4)/40 isk/23% Widgets/1000 isk (Muvolailen etc)/1500 isk (Orsulaert etc)/500 isk/50%
And so on, for every item. If you could set a preferred system like Jita to compare everything to, that would be even better.
My 2 bob. Hope this is clear enough.

Trying to incorporate the cross-region idea into it as well is stumpy though, the best I could come up with is "Universe Markethawk" and I don't like that much.
** EDIT maybe "Global Markethawk" ? sounds a bit better to me anyway **

Hey I think you have something great here.
Seems alot of people are trying to make complicated programs to automate alot of things, which is fine, but alot of them seem to be buggy and/or complicated to use.
This is perfect for what I do.
Now I have a question, as I play eve on both my desktop, and my laptop, both on the same network, is there a way that I can use either machine and have the same up to date information on both of them?
Maybe a way to export the data the program stores to a share folder on my network that I can load onto another computer?

You could easily copy the logs from both machines, to a shared folder on the network, and then point EMS to get logs from that directory. Just go into options on the file menu. There you can set the path. Sadly you cant make eve save the logs to a common network directory. Maybe send a feature request to CCP :) |

It'd be neat to have the "find bargain, highest buy" etc... drop down menus keep their value when switching items (now, every time I switch items, both go automatically to "Find bargain"). This would save a LOT of effort, especially since I trade amongst many regions (Find Bargain works fine if I'm working only two regions) - unless I'm doing something wrong (I don't really understand what the "Find Bargain" function does - could you explain a little better on the top post? Shouldn't "Find Bargain" just be a button that shows best places to buy and sell a currently selected item? I likely just don't know how it works).
I'll send ISK at some point, but I'm currently trading on borrowed ISK, so it might take a while. |

If i understand your question correctly: "Find bargain" is just the name for the 4 items in the dropdown (highest/lowest sell/buy). So "find bargain" doesn't do anything in itself. When you choose an item in the dropdown e.g. "Lowest Sell", then you get the effect of the region with the lowest sell being displayed.
I guess i could make an option for the "Find bargain" dropdown to keep it's selected function (e.g. "Lowest Sell", etc.) between item selection. I would probably place it as an option in the options menu. as there is precious little room in the main window as it is (also the reason i dropped the idea of more than 2 regions side by side).
Did i understand you correctly? |

Well. None detected, just means that there are no immediate changes in the log folder (i.e. no added/deleted/modified files). You just have to click the "Load Marketlogs" button. Then select an item from the Items dropdown, then a region and then you should see a marketlog. Tell me if you still have problems. |

Edited by: Tako Yaki on 10/01/2009 16:56:49 Still not working. Pretty sure I followed the directions carefully.
Here's some info:
- OS - Win XP
- First joined eve - January 1st, 2009
- Eve version - 5.20.72263 (Quantum Rise)
Market log file names: Verge Vendor-Mexallon-2009.01.10 035242.txt Verge Vendor-Miner I-2009.01.10 061256.txt
I noticed there are alot of spaces in the log name. When I replaces the spaces with dashes I got a little further, but then received a message like "index was outside bounds of the array"
Hope this helps and thanks for replying!

Ok, it's working now. However it was a strange path to get there.
First I needed to create a bunch more marketlogs Then I deleted one (Miner I) while the app was running Then reloaded the log files.
Now it seems to work fine, even when I revert back to the 2 logs I was originally having problems with. Pretty weird!
Does EMS keep some state between sessions or something?

Yes that sounds strange. And no, EMS does not keep state on what logs you have. They are reread every time. I'm not quite sure it's an EMS bug, but if anyone else experiences this, then please report it here. |

Already implemented for next version :)
I was about to report that Find Bargain doesn't work for me :)
You might also consider disabling the text-edit feature of that combo box as there really isn't anything to edit. Also allows the user to click anywhere on the box to open it as opposed to the dropdown arrow only.
Anyways, nice work and very much appreciated!

Version 1.2 is up!
v1.2.0 - Feature: Bargain finder is changed to "Find where to..." in an attempt to give more intuitive options. - Added: -1.0 is added to give full security filter range. - GUI Fix: Selection boxes are easier to read. - Fixed: Right-click context menu on table headers were broken - Fixed: Min quantity filter was off by 1. - Fixed: Bargain finder didn't take security and quantity filter properly into account.
Thanks to Trader Mags for the suggestions and constructive feedback
Tell me if you have any problems.

Before I download I had a question.
The market buy/sell price for any given item changes at any given moment. The market from hour to hour for any given item changes - we all understand this. How can an app that logs market info on X date and time be relevant 24hours later? In 24 hours that particular market for that particular item could have crashed in the meantime.
I am a perfectionist and check each region's market for item X everyday no matter what - I just log on my alt and dual monitor the info.
So really what benefit does this app provide other than a history log if it doesn't auto update for you.
I understand according to the description - if you export market details of a 'Raven' that you can view that info later. That's all well and good if you only have one account and need to recall some info while traveling across multiple regions, but what about someone who has a second account? And you can just write down the market details on notepad because you know in about 2 hours that market will change.
Guess I am trying to see how people use this app as it just seems as a simple logger that you would have to update every time - which could be tedious with little advantages. Not to knock your effort - as it seems this app has been successful and good luck to you.

Eve Market Scanner (EMS) is actually better the more accounts in different region you have. Because then you can easily export logs on several items and regions and quickly compare them. EMS even updates as you export the logs so they are readily available. EMS can filter by quantity and system security. So if you want to find the cheapest places to buy 6 Ravens in highsec, then EMS can show you. Provided the exports for the regions you want to compare. EMS does not provide a history as it always uses the latest export of any given item. EMS was meant as a way to quickly compare several (all if you want) regions without having to look at hard to read comma separated files. So by the time you have written 4 regional prices in notepad, an EMS user would have bought the cheapest item. So you are right. The market changes quickly.
There is more to it, but if you want to write it off before you have even tried it, then good luck to you too

I find this application really useful, but recently I have seen the way that Eve Metrics collects it's data and think that your Eve Market Scanner could be much better if you were to use a similar system.
Basically they are collecting the data by scraping it out of the Eve Cache instead of having to rely in the Eve Market logs. If your program could do the same then it would save me much painful mouse clicking to get the info I want.

I see that eve metrics have some sort of developer API, so i guess there is a possibility of using their data, although it might be a lot of work, and my time is very limited atm. Also, if I were to implement this, i'd like some confirmation from CCP that this is not in violation of the EULA! I do know that a lot of people like the "privacy" of EMS, but i agree that it would be nice to have the option to use eve metrics data. I would have to implement a proper item browser first (which sadly also increases the application size), so it might be a bit in the future. But please post some link to where the legality of Eve metrics is shown, and i will consider it. |

I didn't really mean for you to use Eve Metric's data, but rather you could pull the market info in the same way that they do, without having to create market logs for each item.
The Eve Metrics people have had it confirmed that it does not break the EULA. I'm sure a GM would cofirm that for you via a petition. |

Well, Emporia, The scraping is quite an involved process as you have to give it a lot of work to decipher the cache files, which the eve metrics guys also state in their thread. So this will not be an option for EMS as i simply don't have the time to put into it. But i actually like the idea of being able to choose between the public data from evemetrics or your own privately exported logs. So i might work towards that in the nearest future. As i have also been reassured enough that it is not an EULA violation. Thx for the tip. |

I am working on implementing a market browser tree on the left which marks the current marketlogs loaded. It should make it easier to reach specific items when you have many marketlogs loaded. This is also to facilitate the later implementation of optional eve-metrics data.

Another satisfied user here But there is something I'd like to point out in the program.
If I change the order and size of items in the column (i.e. Jumps, Quantity, Volume Entered, etc.), the changes are not saved and therefore it returns to the original state everytime I restart the program.
Is it intended to be that way, or is there something that I'm missing out?
PS. Let's see if I can make some donation from my escrows :P

This is the intended behavior so far. As it would be a bit boring to code But if it is a request from more people i will of course take a look at it. Order and shown columns would be the most reasonable to implement, as size is based on the size the app is running at, and is more dynamic. Tell me what you need. |

Supposedly this guy has developed the code to read from cache and he says he will send it to you if you're a developer. It would be nice if you contact him to include that feature. It would be nice too if you could confirm or deny that the code exists, since no one has seen it and lived to post acknowledging it here.

Hello Eraggan Sadarr,
thanks for your reply. Yea I know the in game graphs. But the acutally only displays a year and we can¦t export the data.
It would be great if your program displays the old market logs, already exported, in a graph, so we can compare the price development outgame and compare it with other regions. Also graphs with a longer axis then 1 year would be nice. |

Hey
Now here are my tips to make this thingy even more awesome:
1. - I would like to have an option to manually enter numbers for the volumes traded (per item per region). I would locate the fields for it on the left and on the right of the "region" dropdown menues. The numbers should be stored in a new .txt file in the Market logs Folder or something. This would make it possible to have a vast idea of how much is traded in a region once you entered the volume. 50% profit margin is nothing when the item is just sold once per week while 10% margin with 1000 units per day is pretty decent
2. - I would want you to add one (optional) extra column between the right and left one, which shows certain ratios dependend on price differences and trade volumes. It could contain the following two rows (of course optional via right-click like the colums in the boxes left and right, too): - Absolute difference from lowest sell (left) to lowest sell (right) divided through lower sell order multiplicated with the volume of the higher-sell-order region. This would give a ratio, which includes relative profit compared to amount of ISK invested and volume. (If it's too complicated to program it dependent on higher/lower orders, you could as well just make each formula twice, for left --> right and right --> left direction, if you know what i mean ) The second row could just be difference from lowest sell (left) to lowest sell (right) multiplicated with the volume of the higher-sell-order region. This would give out an absilute ratio of profit and volume. The first ratio is good to maximise profits if you got few investment capital, the second one is for people who have enough to trade with more expensive items.
The higher these values are, the better and it would show very quickly, which trades are profitable and which ones are not. You can say that a relative ratio > 10 or an absolute ratio > 100 is very good for trading. I use these calculations in my Excel spreadsheet and am quite successful with it, although it's kinda uncomfortable - perhaps you can change this?
I hope this wasn't too confused
Best regards Xeno

EDIT: I actually made a modified version of your program from my personal use that did just that about a year ago, but I've been too lazy to update it with your latest version. I might redo it and release it if its OK with you.

The problem I see with Eve-metrics is that most data are > 8 hours old and many regions are completely uncovered for niche items (they can be source of juicy profit). Even using their own trade route addy, I have to double check before I buy stuff because most of the times by the time a possible profitable route registers on Eve-Central, someone already filled it since hours. - Auditing and consulting

Is eve-central data really updated frequently enough (asking because i haven't really used it myself)? If there is general support from the users on this i could take a look at implementing it. Or Astrixx could send me his modified code and I could merge it into EMS. |

First off I very much like the program.
The only thing I would like to see changed is the retention of a chosen option when moving from one item to another.
An example would be checking data for Ravens, having the left window set on "Best Buy" and the right window set on The Forge. If I would swap to for instance Dominixes the selection of the right screen would stay The forge, but the left screen will swap from Best Buy, to what ever the region was that offered the best buy for the Raven. Resulting in having to change the selection type to Best Buy once again. A minor gripe prehaps, but when you are handling 50 or more products it becomes slightly annoying :)
Keep up the good work!

Hi! Thanks for new release :) Probably to realise an offline the version in which program takes the data from a file, instead of from API. Simply on operation access to a site is blocked and such possibility has allowed me to use the program completely autonomously having logs of the market and a XML file with outposts.

I was going to release version 1.4, but since the apocrypha data dump is already out i might as well get that into the mix. So will release as soon as possible.
The most prominent new features will be:
- Apocrypha 1.5 data.
- Option to load outpost data from Eve API, so you'll always have the correct 0.0 stations.
- Option to show station owner in marketlog columns

Turns out the datadump was quick to incorporate as it was only market items that had changed.
So i give you: Version 1.5
See changelog in op for changes. Please report any bugs. |

Caching of the xml is implemented in the new version 1.5.1, which can be downloaded now!

To clarify: Version 1.5.1 caches the outpost names and other information fetched from CCP's server locally on disk. So if you have successfully fetched the data once (this is done at program start-up), you can use the application offline, as the cached version will be used.

Suggestion for the future:
add an option to ignore any orders in certain systems
Reason being that I trade in regions with with parts of low sec space and I almost always get best buy orders to be in the systems that are accessable only by flying through 0.4 or lower and in Charon or Orca is a big no-no without a heavy escort. If you could program it to be an option in the program, even better. Call it something like "Prefer safe haul only" or "Do not show hi-sec pockets" or similar. Basicaly -> If I can't get to from Jita flying through empire only, I don't want it to be shown at all.

As i've said before i don't feel that a route planner is in the scope for this app. Especially since the exported marketlogs only indirectly tell where you toon is located. So you would have to set up a point of origin for any calculations. There are other tools for this.
What i could do is: Let the user define a list of systems that wont show up in the compare view, regardless of security settings. As always, i'd like to know if anyone else is interested in this. So don't hold back. Post your ideas here. |

Sorry to all Vista/Windows 7 users. Seems I introduced a bug, such that the outpost cachefile save function threw an exception.
This is fixed in the new version 1.5.3! Tested in Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and Windows XP SP3 32 bit.
v1.5.3 - Fixed: Caching file saved in application directory, not permissable in Vista/Windows 7. Now written to application data directory. - Change: Minor text corrections in error messages. |

JustJake: I have no clue as to the cause of your error. I'm not familiar with the error format of Vista. Have you overclocked your system or are any other programs failing? You could try the sfc /scannow on the command line, to see if any of your system files might be damaged or tampered with.
Hmmm i think i'll implement some error logging in EMS, so i can just ask for the log, next time :) |

Hello.. this is a suggested feature.
When I review item information from many location.. the legal pad.. it gets full. If items of interest could be checked to go on shopping or selling list. This would be useful.. then could open shopping / buying list for reference during the travel.
Or if more simple to implement.. the items could be highlighted for easy reference.. this would be also useful.
I suppose the export to excel csv would be asking too much?
Also.. the option to delete contents of the market log directory would be nice feature. I do manually now.
Is excellent program with high functionality and most useful of the market applications I see. The export cache scraping would be nice but even so.. is great application. Thank you

Jeneroux: good suggestions. I already had a shopping list on my TODO list. but i guess i would need to make both a buying list and a selling list. I think export to csv would be easy, but i have to check up on that. Regarding the deletion of logs, no problem. but how would you like it implemented? Just a delete button next to the region you have selected or? there already is a filter in options to set a minimum date from which you want to show logs. doesn't that do what you want? otherwise please elaborate.
SencneS: I would really like to do the cache reading, but since that would make me have to restructure large portions of the code, i really don't want to dive into it, until i have the proper time irl. That is, I still plan on doing it. Just don't know when. And i guess i should take a look at navbot :)
I'm glad you both find the application useful :) Feel free to donate some iskies I'll get that dominion update out soon.

I did not see the date filter until you mention this. This is exactement what I wanted so thank you for making this and sorry I missed.. but this function is not obvious until you look in options. My assumption is that did not exist and no thought to look deeper.
The reason I mention deletion of directory content is for simple clean up. It is easy to accumulate thousands of files in this directory. Initially when reviewing many market item the list of item becomes large. over time my item list is more refined. I see no mechanic for cleaning this directory in Eve client.. is simple housekeeping I think but easy to do manually. Would be only for convenience I think but not important.. Handy?
The seperate buying and selling list would be convenient. In Eve, I have defined route and it can require time to collect the things on my list. I buy for a week then organize and move inventory.. then the next week is to travel the selling route always reviewing market in other places. Many temporary lists of item. I have now in game clients with shopping lists for me and sometimes time is required to fill.
I know that more simple method of trade exists but the fun is the travel for me. The ships are to fly not to sit in the station. It can also take time to navigate in 0.0 and many complications in some places with problematic people. in the worst case I look for wormhole then bye bye hostile people and sometime anyplace is better place to be than where you are.
So lists are what I rely on to operate.
I notice that some item with "gunslinger" in name fail to display. this is something for the update? I drop these item but they look like profit potential.. but too much trouble to bother with.
I tried the Navbot.. was functionality not needed by me.. I know where I go.. most times. The market scanner works well for my purpose.. I keep open on second screen and work from there and lists on paper. the cache feature would be convenient but I have time.
I recommend the Eve Market Scanner to any trader but remember when you use this tool.. that the functionality is more complex than is obvious and it is powerful.
Thank you for interest in feedback.

I installed your program and it seems like a useful tool but I'am having a problem. I have saved market logs for many items from 2 regions. One is from high sec and the other a 0.0 region. The 0.0 region will not show up. I set the Min. System security to 0.0 so I know it's not that. I also see the region name in the drop down menu so the data is there. I think it has something to do with the station names. Please advise.

Actually you should set Min. Sys. security to -1.0, as the true security status of 0.0 systems range from 0.0 to -1.0 :) And the 0.0 stations are downloaded automatically when the API is operational, so that shouldn't be a problem. |

About the cache files, i understand that you don't have to relay ont third party api, but instead why don't you modify your parser to not take in to account the name format of the exported files? The libevecache has a dumper, that will convert the cache data in to market export data. I tried to make a batch to export all of my cache files to the format of the exported files to use them with your application, but then i discovered that you parse the files based on their names. The batch files is unable to define a name for the files based on what is inside the files, and so the converted files can't be parsed by your application. I am not so good at C#, .NEt and other Microsoft BS to modify the code, but it will be good if you can modify the application to read exported files with types with names that are not in the standard exported format. In the mean while maybe i can work it to modify the dumper to dump the files with names in the standard exported format (if i can figure the format).

I actually thought of that as an intermediary solution to implementing the whole shabang (libevecache), but i couldn't get the dumper to work, and had no time to fiddle around with it. But i guess i could try again. Maybe newer versions are more stable. |

Quote: Note: The key thing to understand is, that it only compares manually exported marketlogs. That is, there is no scraping of the cache or monitoring of the client.
So you have to export the logs yourself. In Eve, when looking at an item on the market, click <Export to file>. |

Just letting you know that there is still interest in this tool. +1 for both cache scraping and/or eve-metrics! I think alot of us are willing to use libevecache to manually export our market data if you implement the ability to use exports with non-standard filenames Really like the work you've done and if you get either of those working I would use this tool daily. As an attempt at a little incentive, if you add either of those I will make a sizable donation :) Keep up the good work :D

Nice to hear. I just got home from vacation and a am very busy with apartment projects and another kid on the way, so be patient. I will look at it, and as a step toward integration with libevecache, i would have to integrate with the outputformat anyway. So that would probably be the first step.

For those who want to have some semi-automatic dumping:
http://eve-files.com/dl/226676
It's somewhat crude but it does its job:
Install Python 2.6 Install reverence (http://github.com/ntt/reverence) Open the main.py in a text editor and change: self.eve to match your Eve location self.out to match the marketlogs location
run the main.py
I can not guarantee that it's working 100% ok though but i didn't have any trouble with it

Mazen Alane's python script works very well with Eve Market Scanner.
I recommend pointing to a different directory than the standard marketlog directory, and then restart EMS, as a bug will result in EMS directory monitoring not switching to the new directory until restarted (already fixed for next release).
This is a very neat way to incorporate the requested cache scraping.

I don't know if this is a determining factor to you or not - but implimenting this would be the "deciding factor" in my switching to using this tool over others, and consequently sending an ISK donation. I don't doubt many others feel similarly.
It is a -wonderful- tool, and I applaud your work with it, but this is the type of convenience that differentiates between "useful" and "must use"

You probably won't be able to use the script in IronPython, as it uses Reverence (entitys cachelib), which uses a C extension for python. C extensions aren't supported by IronPython as far as I know.

Did anyone manage to get the Autodump script to work on Windows7? If I install the 64bit 2.6 python then the script causes a invalid win32 exception If I install the 32bit 2.6 Python then the script can't find win32con.dll Nor will reverence install on any 2.7 Python version (while using the 2.7 release).
ow well, at least I can still use Eve Market Scanner which is the most important thing, thanks Eraggan

I see your point and will investigate further. Atm i recommend users who want automatic cache reading in conjunction with EMS to do as instructed here. I have tested this myself and it works really well. Sadly only on 32bit Windows (sorry Dragul Imorta). At least i have not found a solution to run it on 64bit. Maybe some of the compatability modes in Win7 can help. If you find Mazen Alane's instructions too technical, you'll have to wait and see if i find a solution to incorporating a cache reader in EMS directly, which might be a while |

@Northwesten: Could you give me some more info on your system? What version of windows, 32/64 bit and so on. I don't think it's something i can help with. And it might be bad memory on your machine or another program behaving badly. in any case i think you should try to install Eve Market scanner on another machine, and see if you have the same experience.
Lastly you can try and send me any error logs found in this folder: "%APPDATA%\Eve Market Scanner" the file is called "EMS_error.log". Send it to eraggan(dot)sadarr(at)gmail(dot)com |

btw, EMS shouldn't crash just because of missing items in the database. So could you please take a look at the post just above yours where i describe the error log, and how to send it. And then send it to me.

I see your point and will investigate further. Atm i recommend users who want automatic cache reading in conjunction with EMS to do as instructed here. I have tested this myself and it works really well. Remember to set the same path for marketlogsfolder in both Mazen's script and EMS, then EMS will update automatically as new logs are created by the script.
64 bit windows: I have made the script run in 64 bit windows 7, by NOT running the reverence installer, but download the source code instead and then extract that to a folder of your choice. Then do a "c:\Python26\python.exe setup.py install" in the folder you extract reverence to (assuming your path to python is c:\Python26\python.exe). I only had Python 2.6.6 64bit version installed (python-2.6.6.amd64.msi).
If you find Mazen Alane's instructions too technical, you'll have to wait and see if i find a solution to incorporating a cache reader in EMS directly, which might be a while
In trying to follow your instructions for installing reverence on a 64 bit Windows 7 machine I get an error that says it cannot find vcvarsall.bat. I have the free version of Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0 installed, which works fine. I've tried copying the vcvarsall.bat file into both my python27 folder as well as the reverence folder but still get the same error.
Any tips?

Edited by: locJ on 25/02/2011 13:45:36 For those who had problems installing Mazen's python autodumper under Windows 7, I think I solved the mystery. The problem I encountered was the "cannot find win32con" error. Well, the cause for this is that in python 2.6 and 2.7 there are no more win32 libraries included, you need to install them separately. The libraries are called pywin32 and can be found here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/pywin32/files/pywin32/
so the steps for getting this done should be: 1. install python 2.7 (32bit or 64bit, whetever you want) 2. install the reverence package. (Note if you use python 64 bit, the reverence installer won't find it. You need to download the source code then manually install the package using the setup.py file as described here) 3. install pywin32 (get the latest build for your platform) 4. download the autodumper and configure it as described here 5. place a shortcut of the main.py on your desktop
Thanks to Mazen Alane for the script and to Eraggan Sadarr for the awesome piece o' software.

So. Freaking. Cool.
I recommend using a batch file as a shortcut that runs both Eve and the autodumper script, example: Create an empty .txt file and put the following two lines in it (replacing with your file paths, of course): "c:/Program Files/EVE/eve.exe" "c:/Python26/autodumper/main.py" Save it as Eve.txt then rename it to Eve.bat and use it for your Eve shortcut. Now you won't forget to run the script while playing Eve so you can be sure you will always be gathering Market logs! :)
THANK YOU Mazen Alane for python autodumper script! THANK YOU Eraggan Sadarr for Market Scanner!!

Ok, did some googling and found this site that says you need to have the same version of vs that python was complied in, so you need vs 2008. Downloaded and installed it, but now when i run the install script I get the below. What does any of this mean?

Hi Eraggan, I know you are busy with real life, but thought I'd post some suggestions for you anyways First, I love everything about the browser window. It is exactly like Eve and is simple and easy to use. The drop down menu could use some improvement though - right now it just lists everything, which can be extremily long if you have a lot of logs. Perhaps there could be 2 drop down menus: one lets you choose either "everything" or a specific category, and then second menu contains only the items in that category. Second, and this is a bug I think: I always turn off Security and Min. Volume everytime I use EMS. When I turn them off in the left buyer's side, the option to turn them off isn't there in the right buyer's side, or visa-versa. You have to turn on the option again in the right side, and then turn it off, to get it to go off. It's a small but annoying bug. A way to "save" your custom view settings would be awesome :). Lastly, the order "expire" time is wrong. My computer is on GMT -8 (Pacific) and sometimes I see very recent orders show up as 90H + in EMS, perhaps because it's set to Eve time? idk.
Also, what are your thoughts about a program that reads the price history market logs and displays them in a similar way? I already have an autodumper for them, it's just (very)cumbersome to read them in microsoft excel. I'd be interesting in doing something like that, as that's the only thing I see missing from EMS being a one-stop-shop type of program for market needs. Did you use visual basic for EMS?
Thanks and Cheers :)

Also wanted to say that if people have problems with EMS loading corrupted files from auto-dumper, just go in your logs folder and delete all the "my orders...".txts and also any files that are 0kb.

did you install reverence for 32-bit? also, maybe try putting both python and your market logs in the same partition as Eve (E: for you ?), idk.

@mutuu: Well i just tried setting my eve path in main.py to a non-existing path and i get your exact error. So i'm pretty sure that you have not set a correct path for EVE.
@Circus Bob: I really appreciate the input, and i will incorporate as much as i can. I'm not sure what you mean on the Min. sec and quantity filters. They apply to both columns (regions) at the same time. Maybe i misunderstand, but do you want individual filters per region? The time zone problem is a bug as you reported. Should be fixed now. Didn't notice it because i live in GMT+1, so the difference was too small :)
For now you can check out the changelog for the upcoming release:
Quote: Changelog: v1.6.0 - Fixed: Time zone error in expiry date, reported by Circus Bob. Now strictly Eve time. - Conversion: Uses the .NET 4.0 framework now. Remember to upgrade. v1.5.9 - Fixed: Path monitoring not working when changing marketlogs path. - Update: Incursion 1.1.0 data incorporated.

For the filter thing, let me try to describe it better... For example, I open up EMS and don't do anything except click an item, and then make it display in two different regions. It is now displaying sellers and buyers of Region 1 in the left and Region 2 in the right. Now, I right-click to disable Security on Region 1 sellers, and it goes away only in Region 1. After this, I right-click to disable Security in Region 2 sellers, but then the checkmark by Security isn't there (because it's disabled in Region 1). But luckily you can get around this by re-checking Security in Region 2, and then disabling it in Region 2 again, and then it goes away like it should. I hope this makes sense lol.
This works the same for all the other filters, too, whether adding or disabling them, and seems to only happen when viewing 2 regions. It could be a problem with me if no one else is experience it? But it's a minor inconvience, though, no biggie.
edit: Should also say that I toyed with it a little, and if you disable Security or whatever filter you want disabled in Region 1 first, before opening up Region 2, then it seems to work correctly.

Ah i get it now. Its the context menus(i.e. the columns in each grid). And true, they were sharing the same variable and was therefore set incorrectly. This is fixed.
I will see if i can make EMS save the state for each grid on exit. Not quite full profiles, but at least it will remember your preferences on the columns. |

You need to download the zip fil provided by Mazen Alane here. In this you will find the *.py files. main.py being one of them. As i told in an earlier post you need to follow the instructions there. If it's too techy, i'm sorry. but i don't have time to write a full step by step. |

Am i correct in thinking that clicking on item categories in the market interface will drop marketlogs in the output directory or have i misunderstood the usage?
Not categories, you still have to click a specific item in the market browser, say "Antimatter S" for example. Then the item data is exported to your selected output folder. And if you have set EMS to point to that folder too, then EMS will update also. |

Edited by: Katsunari on 13/05/2011 06:31:48 When I try to open main.py it just closes right away... any ideas? Iam running Vista 32bit Also, all of this is kind of complicated why not just integrate it with EMS?
I've got Python27 in C:\Python27 Then I ran the reverance installer autodumper is at C:\Python27\autodumper
and I edited main.py so it reads : self.eve = blue.EVE("C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE") self.out = "C:\Users\2kwik4u\Documents\EVE\logs\Marketlogs"
Have I missed anything?

Your paths should look something like this:
self.eve = blue.EVE("E:\\Games\\EVE Secondary") self.out = "E:\\Temp\\Evelogs"
notice the double backslashes.
And integrating it into EMS is not that simple. otherwise i would have done it.

I have made some major changes to the code in EMS, and would like to have some beta testers before final release of version 2.0.
Features include:
- Multiple columns, now its just up to the width of your screen
- Optimized code and UI
Would anyone be interested?

The autodumper/Reverence method also fails with Incarna. autodumper generates marketlogs with only headers but no data, but it doesn't report any parsing errors. Is this a problem in autodumper or Reverence?

Changelog: v1.7.1 Beta - Fixed: Marketlog API change on 'issueDate'. [Autodumper users must change the script themselves in main.py from 'issued' to 'issueDate'.] - Change: Added multiple columns and removed old dropdown view. - Change: Major code restructuring. Well, just to make one thing clear: I did not create autodumper, and i don't support it!
But to be nice, the installation procedure is something like this:
- Install Python(2.6/2.7 32bit seems to work best, even on Win7 64bit)
- Install reverence (http://github.com/ntt/reverence)
- Open the main.py in a text editor and change:
self.eve to match your Eve location self.out to match the marketlogs location (remember EMS needs to point to this path too!) Remember that paths in main.py need to be escaped like this "C:\\somedir\\logs"
- Run main.py (if doubleclicking doesn't work run it from command prompt: python main.py)
- API changed with Incarna 1.0 so you have to do a search and replace for 'issued' and change to 'issueDate' in main.py

The error occurs during the attempt to use Pywin32. It is installed alright (the files are there), but there is some problem with the file versions; I'd guess you installed a 64-bit Pywin32 onto a 32-bit Python, or vice versa.
Try uninstalling everything Python and then reinstall, making sure you use only 32-bit versions of Python and Pywin32 (i.e. filenames don't have "amd64" in them, that indicates 64-bit versions).

No, the python DLLs are called .pyd. However, Python should find the file now, the directory/file names are correct. Did you reboot the system after installing the new Python? Some path changes need a reboot to take effect.

Have you changed main.py as described above? If not, just download the modified main.py and replace the one in the autodumper folder with that. Marketlog exports will work in Incarana, but there are still some other problems (character orders don't seem to work).

Fantastic good stuff! One question I can't figure out on my own. I'm using autodumper. I was testing to see if I needed to change all of the "issue" to "issuedDate", IE not just the library calls but also the log headers, (I wasn't sure if Market Scanner would be ok with either version of the header). it seems to not mind either, (can you confirm?).
I also noticed that you are reporting the exported time as Eve server time, is this intentional?
Otherwise thanks heaps...

@Kandreath: In the Beta version i actually just look at the new 'issueDate' and not the old 'issued', so the old files will show as expired. I really felt that it was bad to do a workaround for legacy API, that would only be valid for a maximum of three months. I can do it if there is enough demand.
And yes it is intentional that i use evetime, the files are exported in that format and the client shows that time. Would you like it in your local time?
Do you use the new beta version? |

I downloaded but this but I have no idea what to do with it now.
It requires market logs, and I don't have any of these. How exactly do you get market logs ?
Is there a way to export all the data from one regional market into this thing ? I don't have any buy/sell orders for now, I'm just looking to analyze the markets a bit.

Are you using a Python 3 version? Python 3.x is not fully compatible with Python 2.x, some things were changed to unify the syntax, among them the print instruction. A switch to a Python 2.x install should fix your problem then.
Otherwise download the already modified main.py and copy it over the one in the autodumper folder.

Dear Eraggan Sadarr,
So I been playing with the market scanner. Its pretty good. A few suggestion. An error window coming up when there is a 0byte file is the log dir, and it stop processing the data. It should just ignore the 0byte files and go on. We need a search field for browser tab. When u enter a string in the field it should show only matching items in the tab. Not sure if there is the sold daily quantity data in the logs. But it would be good to see it or a graph maybe,so we can anticipate how many can be sold from an item. Is there maybe an other way to get daily sold quantity? A profit calculator. It should subtract the lowest sell order from an all other regions lowest sell order, display the highest number. And the 2 station involved, jumps.

This will not keep in Windows, it works only for a single CLI window until you close it. Use the system preferences GUI to add the Python path to PATH and reboot.

EMS skips old files and only reads the newest files, so they can be deleted if you wish. but they are the reason that i made the date filter in options. I was thinking about using the older files for a price Index history, but I don't know if it will add any value to the app. in any case, Eve doesn't do any cleanup of the logs directories. |

I know, I know; this thread isn't about supporting autodumper. I can't find a thread for it though. If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be good also.
Admittedly I haven't tried it for a week or two but was working before the patch.
Any hints?
Not working for me either. It does nothing.

Ahhhh haaaa! - I think I have it!
The eve directory in autodumper had 'C:\\Program Files (x86)\\CCP\\EVE' but after trying a few things I put it to this: 'C:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\EVE'
I did a quick test and it now is working.
Hopefully this helps you.

No the backslashes have to be escaped!
You should install the latest reverence, which the autodumper script relies on, from here: http://github.com/ntt/reverence/
