I am curious on other peoples' experiences with the bug reporting system.
Oftentimes it seems to me they don't even look at the report. They just close it and say the bug is not reproducible. Now I'm sure the team is more competent than that; I'm sure they are actually looking at the bug report but that's how it seems on my end. I'll submit a detailed bug report complete with step-by-step reproduction steps, a graphical guide to the bug including cropped and annotated screenshots, and sometimes the logserver report if pertinent to the problem. And then I get back a short and sweet "bug not reproducible". Honestly I feel like I'm playing one of those text-based adventure games of the early 90's. Me: Open the fitting window and... Bug Hunter: not reproducible Me: Open fitting window. Bug Hunter: not reproducible Me: Open window. Bug Hunter: not reproducible
Case in point: one of my last bug reports is about an item not being listed on the market properly. With the LP store they put about 10-15 "gypsy" implants in the LP store and on the market. Except they left out this "KOB" one from the market. I've submitted this yet again. Hopefully I can get the bug hunter team to open the market and search for KOB this time. Wish me luck.

Well, not to be rude or anything towards CCP, since i know how the bug system often works in game development(one very disgruntled employee going through thousands of bugs a day to keep the suits happy), but i have to agree.
Seems some bugs get just "Nope, wasn't me!" stamped and sent back.

just accept the fact that they arnt interested in your bug reports
i got similarly dismissed when i tryed to file a bug report on the request of a gm and as the old saying goes, actions speak louder than words
we arnt beta testers anyway so let them find their own bugs

Your bugs just get moved to the "not reproducible" section. It's a know bug, please bug report it so we can gather more information on it.

I will never report another bug.
The one I reported had to do with the overview wrapping up.
I said that I was unable to reproduce the steps but this has happened before. I purposely left my client un-altered for almost 4 weeks until the bug was answered. It was immediately closed as un-reproducible.
There was no communication between me or the bug hunter. Just closed after 4 weeks of waiting.
waste of time.

Yea. Got my share of those. One could even think that the bug handlers only want bugs that they have a decent idea on how to fix (due them being easily reproducable), and the rest get tossed onto the "if i can't see it its not happening" bucket.
I blame a silly ass metric somewhere

You are not alone in your frustration. I just don't know if I want to spill out my full rant as the story is still in progress and might get worse yet.

I spent many hours trying to nail down the bug you speak of. I finally was able to reproduce it and after several resubmissions they finally attached it to a defect. Backup your user_xxxxxx.dat file before trying this (C:\Documents and Settings\{user}\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\settings). How to corrupt your overview: Corrupt Overview Bug

Nice, what has CCP said in response or are you still waiting for a reply?

There are no bugs in EVE. Especially if they don't show up in the logs.

sometimes I'm frustrated too, yes.
For example, I reported twice that the combat log window is messed up. When it's closed, new lines get added at the bottom of the buffer. When it's open, new lines get added to the top. So if you open it in the middle of battle, you will get a sort order like:
10 9 8 7 1 2 3 4 5 6
This is totally messed up. I even added a screenshot with the messed up log to the bug report. Guess what? First it was "not reproducible", now (after 9 months) it's listed as "filtered". Of course, the bug still exists.
isn't it funny how some people advocate both GTC<=>ISK trades and EVE being superior due to its cruelty and costly losses, when they use the former to circumvent the latter?

I think the way it works is that the bug hunters are testing on servers that are ahead of TQ and even Sisi. Sisi houses release candidates where as the private server of Chaos can be several builds ahead of Sisi. I think the Bug hunters test on Chaos and when you report a bug from sisi or TQ it could already be fixed on the Chaos release which would return a "not reproducible" tag to your report.
I'm sure they don't mind re-checking a possible bug if they did indeed miss you could request that the BH add comments to the bug report for clarification.

Edited by: Andrue on 26/09/2007 18:37:06 Edited by: Andrue on 26/09/2007 18:28:36 Yeah I'm a bit dissappointed too. I bug reported something twice (the pop-up menu not appearing when docked). Several people managed to reproduce it in-game but the bug hunters apparently couldn't.
Second bug report: "There are two ways to reproduce it. In both examples I am talking about clicking on the ship in the main area of the screen not the standard icon in the hangar folder.
1.With station environment loaded. * Switch to an Iteron V * Right click ship. If the menu appears (unlikely in my experience at two different screen resolutions) zoom out a bit and try again.
2.Disable station environment loading. * With the Iteron V this should cause a zoom-out that pretty much prevents the ship menu from appearing.
This problem has only appeared since this patch and I think it has to do with click detection on the active ship."
Response:Filtered - cannot reproduce.
How come players can reproduce this so easily and yet they can't? I'm a software developer so I try to maintain a good attitude about bug hunters and QA people but something isn't right here -- (Battle hardened industrialist)

yeah, There is a rare glitch, perhaps to do more with desynch, that flag the owner of can to the theif stealing an item, transfering ore to the theifs can. This appreas to happen when both playres try and loot item at same time. Works best on macro's that just transfer their ore to can and never stacking leaving 20-40 items in cans. When theif sees the hauler approach and sees the stacks dissapeear one by one he can select all/drop all to his can and wow... the poor hauler is now criminal to theif for taking ore From his gangs can. [Also an work if very lucky with the ships crew in Herom wreck of worlds or the drone cans in 2/10 drone plexes] I have submited several detailed reports to CCP and get bug doesnt exist. This bug corst me 500mil when a griefer used it to flag me to his ship... NOt a bug... keeps getting dismissed.. Ship and items lost to this theif not replacable. So feee free to try this and submit your own bug reports... and enjoy the loot from layer kill ya get.
