You know WoW expansions are optional, and EVE expansions are not right?
They are not really optional. Most of the gameplay is at top level and that means buying the expansion packs.

Eve gives its players free expansions.
I know which one I prefer.
Anyway - neither is free. They are both additional features for a product that we pay monthly. The monthly prize was calculated to cover such feature development - which again has to happen to stay competitive.

I have used TS and VENT on and off over tha last few years and Eve Voice since it came out.
The quality of EV should not be in question as I have found it to be much better than either TS or VENT
And it's free ! ! !

imo i dont mind if they charge us all 75cents more a month and make eve voice free for all and somewhat forced to use. becasue unlike ts or vent you cant hack voice to flood with members of the other hostile allaince.

quote for thread ---------------------
and who was that saying WoW expansions are bigger than eve's? eve has never had an expansion? are you loco? if walking, cap ships, contracts, tech 2 ships, exploration, POSes, Sov, New space, factional warfare, land combat, heat, graphical update, more new ships, titans, more new ships, hell, alliances, corporation hangers, cloaking, outposts, fleet command and tactical view, new NPC's, multi-level scenarios, war declaration, system scanning, invention, tractor beams, cosmos constellations, salvaging, rigs, boosters, seamless map, solar system view, UI improvements, yes the UI is better than the old.
there is a reason 1-up.com gave the game a 4/10 3 years ago and recently gave it a 9/10. Where have wow reviews gone recently? 7/10's 8/10's.
EvE adds content, WoW adds fluff. and eve adds fluff too jsut like WoW. but WoW releases nothing but fulff because that is what the target audience is looking for.
it sounds liek some people haven't been playing eve for a while. ----------------------------------- I'm working my way through college target CCP need...more room... |

Ok - I seem to recall CCP saying something about it not meant to be free (except for trial perhaps - my impression anyway).
Not sure if CCP changed it's policy or if they just failed to deliver the message.
Anyway - before I switch to EVE Voice, I need to know it's free, staying free and is stable (which it ought to be btw - I recall CCP saying it's not running on the tranquility server).

Eve voice has another disadvantage over Ts / Ventrilo as well if they decide to charge for it you'd need to pay for each Eve account you have. ---------

Edited by: Laah T''Sin on 26/09/2007 12:44:23 For me EVE voice is currently not an option - I need voice comms that are reliable and stable (two things that the EVE servers are not).
The fact that CCP actually has the balls to turn around and expect me to pay for a substandard Voice chat hosted on unstable and unreliable servers only increases the likelihood that I will never (EVER) use that service.
I'd prefer CCP wasting less time and money on useless (and totally redundant) features such as voice and start putting more effort into improving the game. When that is done CCP could simply host a TS Server that you can use for free as long as you have an active EVE account. Or they could leave it the way it worked the last 4,5 years and simply let the players organize their coms.
All in all CCP has once again shown, that they have no idea what their community actually wants unless there are 53452341 whine threads over 3 years and then the most pressing bugs are often still not fixed fast enough.
If EVE voice were properly implemented and hosted on a stable system (independent of the terribly unstable EVE-client) and was free without any extra effort on my part then I might have used it. Now that CCP has put everyone off by asking for money I'm pretty sure I'll never make use of the service.. not as long as there are alternatives like TS/vent and all the others.
Oh and did anyone notice that they made the same mistake with EVE-TV? Even after they noticed that only about 4 people were willing to pay even more money for a useless service (EVE voice) they still tried the same crap with EVE-TV - and failed (as EVE-TV is now free).
Epic fail on CCPs part thats for sure.
Edit: And to the people that are saying EVE voice is free: There is currently a FREE TRIAL of EVE voice. That means as soon as enough people get used to using EVE voice and are hooked to it then CCP will start asking for money for it. So it's not free it just failed really badly - if 5000 players had all signed up in the first few days I'm sure CCP would already be raking in the cash from them. And if there ever should be a large amount of people using it then I'm pretty sure they'll start charging you for it then.
Until CCP officially says that they have abandoned any hopes of ever charging players for EVE voice I'm not gonna touch it with a 40 foot pole.

Edited by: Orivanna on 26/09/2007 14:22:59 You all seem to be missing the fact that an average WoW content PATCH has more content than an EvE expansion, and patches are released in WoW more frequently.
Now, a WOW Expansion is not free, you are right, but if you have seen the amount of content in the Burning Crusade, you'd know it's almost like buying a new game. An EvE equivalent of that would be an entirely new race with it's set of high and low sec areas, corporations with unique rewards, an entirely new set of ships for that race, and a bunch of unique missions to do, new music score, etc, etc.
Now, obviously Bliz can do this because it has the money. CCP doesn't have the money to release as much content in a year as Bliz does, but when you say that CCP gives free expansions, you are mistaken.

Not almost, it is like buying a new game. It brought me back to WoW for several months (until I had seen all of the single user content and much of the instances).
CCP is doing pretty well (except at fixing lag), but one has to acknowledge that Blizz works a lot more/faster on content upgrades, free and non-free.
isn't it funny how some people advocate both GTC<=>ISK trades and EVE being superior due to its cruelty and costly losses, when they use the former to circumvent the latter?

This is the internet- home of the eternal debate. No-one has to acknowledge anything Eve fanbois will continue to believe eve is a unique and complex snowflake, wow fanbois will continue to believe that compared to end-game raiding, eve is about as complex as pong. This will continue until one of the games' servers shut down.
