I'm getting a little tired with whinging pseudo-pirate carebears (here I will call them WPPCs) on these forums and on TQ.
The other day I was ratting in 0.0, in a raven with a cloak, when 6 WPPCs entered my system. I immediately safespotted and cloaked. Eventually after some smacktalk they left.
Their smacktalk essentially consisted of complaints about cloaking ravens, and they were suggesting other ways for me to escape from them - all of which would ultimately have made me easy fodder for them.
For instance, they suggested that I warp from safespot to safespot - never mind the fact that it takes a raven quite some time to warp.
The fact is, if I didn't have the ability to safespot and cloak, I couldn't be in 0.0 at all - the odds would be so heavily stacked against me that I would never regain the cost of a raven and its setup.
My raven ratting setup costs around 170 mil isk - how could I possibly recoup that if I was being killed on a regular basis?
You cannot stack the odds against 0.0 ratters - otherwise there will be no 0.0 ratters to hunt down - think about it!
Regarding logoffski, WPPCs apparently think there is something intelligent about blobbing a gate and killing anything that comes through.
In fact it is about the most pathetic way of making money in EVE. How difficult and challenging is it really to scramble an indy or shuttle?
I am constantly telling my 7 year old son to stop playing easy levels of his games - because he will only gain some benefit from being challenged.
So to the WPPCs, I say, go and find something a little bit more challenging than blobbing.
Until then, I fully support logoffski - why the heck should someone lose his/her hard earned isk to a bunch of lazy WPPCs?
EVE is a huge game. Why limited your money making to such a lame activity?

Edited by: Banana Torres on 27/09/2007 09:23:08 Ah, but if you were in 0.0 space claimed by the alliance that your WPPCs were in, then they would not be pirates but defenders of thier space. So this would make them whinging alliance-blobbing carebears (WABC).
Anyway just ignore them. Your the one with the balls to go ninja ratting in hostile space, not a wannabe hardcore gamer that hides in the safety of a blobbing alliance.

Ammm... the person was cloaked, the gankers came into the belt, the person uncloaked and warped to safespot, where he/she cloaked again. That's one possibility.
OR
The person was engaging NPCs, gankers came to the belt, person warped out, gankerz ASSUMED there had to be a cloak on the raven, since they couldn't probe it out. That's the other probability.
All cleared now, is it :)
Update: I wouldn't be able to spell things correctly to save my life. :( Those chocolate cookies aren't doing me any good.

No such thing as piracy in 0.0. You choose to willingly go into a lawless war zone. Don't be surprised that there are people there willing to blow you up. They're not doing it for the ISK.
Nothing wrong with cloaking ships though, in my opinion.

Yes, well, that's nice.
However, what irks people is that you get the rewards of 0.0 without actually being in danger anymore. What I don't get is why they don't leave a cloaky-cloaky alt in your system to AFK all day and then periodically check where you are ;)

Edited by: Sheriff Jones on 27/09/2007 09:33:57 If i rat in 0.0, i do it in a pvp fitting, with a warp scrambler(the short range one) so that if someone decides to attack me, i can atleast finish it and they don't have the chance to bugger off if they bite too much
0.0 ratting in a pvp fitting is just as easy.
Ahem...a bit off-topic, but felt it was relevant self info after last post.
Anyhoo, smacktalk is just that, trying to get you to come out and fight. It's been around since the first human called a kilrathi a furball. It's space, it's cool, it's legit

Excuse me, but I did NOT say "I want to keep my perfectly safe 0.0 ratting"
Plz delete that "quote" immediately.
I accept there is significant risk in 0.0 ratting.
On the other hand, if I had no chance of winning, what would be the point of 0.0 ratting.
That is the point of risk - if I can make 1 bil per each raven lost, great, that makes the risk worthwhile - but if I make only 100 mil for each raven lost, there is no point to 0.0 ratting - the risk is too great.

I actually always, when ratting, calculate it as such:
When i've hunted enough rats to cover for new ship+equipment, my ship is free game to be lost.
So, in a say, t2 harbinger, when i've made 60(or so) mil with it, i can lose it. All the rest iskies, a bonus.
It helps you ease your mind, after you've made the iskies, and you can even take on big groups just for kicks.
There's nothing more honorable then taking on 5 ships with only one!

I know the WPPCs in question, and they know me and my setup.
As soon as they entered the system, I knew they would be probing me out.
So I took the only option available to me - to safespot and cloak.

As had already been said these people arn't 'wppcs' or 'gankbears' they are alliance pilots defending there sovereign space.
And if you want to rat in their space expect trouble and people whinging about cloaks.
At the same time however you are completely within your rights to try and protect yourself in any way that you can including (and in fact its very effective) fitting a cloak that gimps your setup but provides you with a very effective defense.
So all in all stop whineing or your'll only be stooping to their level, especially with this wppc stuff its just as bad as them calling you a chinese farmer

My corp is blue to the sovereign corp, and we are allowed to rat in their space.
The WPPCs are red or neutral, and come in specifically to hunt us down.
Unfortunately, the WPPCs I referred to previously are also blue to the sovereign corp, but red to us.
This is a bone of contention - a number of times I've run into "blue" gate camps, only to be shot at by a few non-blues participating in the camp - local looks somthing like "FFS, we're blue, stop shooting!"
Nevertheless, my main criticism is against those who
1. Whinge about cloaking and keep asking for it to be nerfed even more than it is already
2. Whinge about logoffski when they are blobbing an indy or shuttle which has no ability to defend itself
I'm not criticising corps defending their space.

Sounds like a diplomatic problem there that should be resolved.
Quote: 2. Whinge about logoffski when they are blobbing an indy or shuttle which has no ability to defend itself
I don't understand what a ship's ability to defend itself has to do with whether it should be attacked or not, how many should be attacking it at the same time, and how it relates to pilots border-line abusing game mechanics in any way?
