I have to bring this up it's killing me and that is, thank you CCP for doing what many MMO deveolpers won't do and give People of Color and other people a place to identify in a fantasty world 'MMORPG' to charecter creation and a story that fits realism. So often fear of saying the wrong thing or projecting the wrong image keeps artist from exploring into what many people find reality.
If ever fantasy peered into reality-'Spirit into physical', this is the first game I enjoy playing. Thinking about the concept of Spirit to me is totally mental that I identify with that other person playing based on their skills then just their avatar or costume, its nice though to see diversity; now I can incorporate all these factors into a new style of roleplaying.
I am still contemplating the social community within corporations so I can expand this fantasy and this has been the only short coming. I'm thinking space IF EVE was to happend would 'soap opera drama' be a part of our lives or are we the fetus in dronism.
However I found my beginning.

Yeah you've got a lot of dough to work with so-to-speak concerning what CCP has put on your plate for being able to role play. Just be aware that here you don't neccesarily have to peg yourself into what has been up to now, typical stereotypes as character classes and races go etc.
At any rate, my character looks forward to discriminating against you in the Intergalactic Summit.

Your statement is powerful and well said. We understand how our past in this universe got us here but corporation lost the meaning of what is,'culture'. I walked by a wonderful friend heading toward his "'pod' follow me here", and as he looked up and seen me he ran too me and picked me up swirled me in a wild circle before even said hi, It was a nice occasion. After his drama others around PEERED amiss with concern maybe because he is Amarr-later that day I find out my peers felt he should've never picked me up in public.

RP is more alive than ever, it simply can't compete with the sheer numbers of non-role-players on-line. Almost every MMO tries to ensure a rich backstory and/or hosts dedicated RP servers, DnD released a new campaign world (I don't like Eberron, but still they are doing well) WoD has re-newed it's entire range and is still going strong (hand in hand with CCP now) there are even good old MUD's still running out there.
There's even a pen and paper role-playing game for EVE under development by White Wolf (WoD) though I've yet to hear of a release date.
I wants that book, I wants it bad, I don't do pen & paper RP but I'm an avid collector of rulebooks (It's like collecting worlds) and this would be the crown of my collection.
*cough* so no RP is not dead.
Though Gallente/Caldari/Pirate/Minor Faction RP is in dire need of some love. Seriously the Amarr and Minmatar have it too easy.

You have a point. Pen/Paper is fun I use this form of RP to enhance my children educational skills. BTW The race title was to bring awareness to the thread and see if players here find EVE culture boring IG based on PPRP. I think SWG failed based on lack of player IG culture not just GCW but I'm RP'er.
Using my imagination I only see Matrix, I wonder how many understand that. Damn devolpers "CCP" do a great job creating a story but we players suck at living the story.

Given what I said before, I am so sincerely hoping that White Wolf takes what CCP has birthed and runs with it. There's a lot that needs to be fleshed out to really give this world some life.

I'd say the reverse is true, every player role-player or not is living the story due to the very nature of EVE, but CCP fail miserably at delivering the story to the masses.

Edited by: Fink Angel on 28/09/2007 14:54:09 "People of Colour" is one of the silliest phrases ever to emerge from the PC stable. Am I a "Person of No Colour"?
Do people take offence at being described as a black man, white man etc?
(Within context of course, if I were to angrily shout "Oi! You white ... whatever" it would be offensive.)
Edit: I hope no-one thinks I'm trying to be offensive, I just don't understand the need to tread so over-the-top-gently it becomes almost comical.

It's because everyone's so scared of being sued/arrested/lynched for being "racist", and there's so many ambulance-chasing lawyers about nowadays. Welcome to the culture of today.
Personally I think it's a load of b*llocks. There's black People, there's white People, they're both People. It shouldn't matter a flying f*** what colour their skin is. However all these politicians are just making the situation worse by being all over the top about "political correctness" (haha, what an oxymoron). ----------------------------------------------

Yeah, that was just to clarify further what I was talking about.
(Also, I predict this thread being locked and quite probably deleted at some point with regards to having the word "racist" within it so that no narrow-minded, blockheaded fanatic with no reading comprehension can sue CCP for exposing them to the outside world.) ----------------------------------------------

culture is based on myth and technology/internet work to dispel it. there can be no denying that we are heading to a time of true multiculturalism where no-one will know the specific genetic history just by looking/listening/touching.
so do i believe this world of eve? no.
ccp need faction wars to make anybody think seriously about roleplaying.

Actually, cultural divisions are becoming more noticeable in this world of internet and technology. As multiculturalism is approached, specific groups begin to close off from the rest, preserving their unique culture. I'll tell you this much: if technology means getting rid of my unique culture, **** technology, I'd rather be back in the middle ages. But, since technology isn't getting rid of culture, and we will continue to have different races and different cultures well into the future, I'm not afraid. ---

Why are People Of Color and White Wolf capitalized and white people aren't? Isn't that telling in and of itself?
As far as different RGB shades for your online avatar, I can't think of a SINGLE MMO off the top of my head that doesn't allow me to create a jet-black avatar, or one so white Maria Von Trapp would squint just looking at it.
Two quick points and I'm done with this thread unless someone has something remotely intelligent (read as non-pc) to add.
1) The "n" word has the same magnitude of affect on a certain group that the "r" word now does. The "r" word, of course, being racist. Whites in the US, in general, are extremely reluctant to engage anyone, even other whites, in any sort of objective conversation about social topics, such as public policy, regarding issues of race. It has stifled intelligent discourse to the point that most whites would rather just go on about their way rather than engage. It's bad for the national debate, and it's bad for integration in general.
2) Diversity is just another way of stereotyping someone based on how much pigmentation they have. When the word diversity is used in current American culture, that's exactly what people are talking about.
I did an experiment in my Public Policy class in which I put sixteen pictures up on the screen and asked everyone to write done on a secret "ballot" how many African Americans were up there. If you just walked in and looked at it through a pigmentation lens, there were nine faces most would consider black. However, all of the five white people were born in South Africa, the arabic and hispanic-looking people were all born on the north African coast. So, of course, the answer was, "all of them". Only one 18-year-old white kid was bright enough to write down, "where are these people from?".
I believe that illustrated perfectly how badly the mere words we use, like People Of Color, do nothing but drive us further apart. I have far, far more in common with the middle-class black family down the street in my solidly middle-class neighborhood than either of us would have with the poor in either of our respective "races".
By the way, talk to any biologist worth his spit, and he'll tell you "race" itself, as a term, is bogus.

Meh, in eve i am 000Hunter000, a Gallente who broke with most his family to become a podpilot, i enjoy flying Caldari ships as i got pelted with missiles from caldari ships a lot when i was a mere noob and decided that 1 day i would excel in the thing i hated so much (missiles and caldari ships) now i can fly every known caldari ship except the titan (few skill levels short hehe )
What i would agree on however is that eve could use some elaborate storyline missions where u get confronted with eve's past and current events a bit more.
How this would be implemented, i must admit i have no real idea, it will prolly be hard to do, but it might emerse people a bit more into the dark and sometimes hostile universe that is EVE.
CCP, let us pay the online shop with Direct Debit!!! Magners is now recruiting, evemail me or Dagazbo ingame.
