Ashiro Nakuyama CONCORD	Posted - 2007.09.27 17:12:00 - [1] As reported by the press here we are opening applications for the CONCORD naming committee for the unnamed new regions, currently designated as: H3J8-U 6HL8-L VU-WU2 7-KXBJ 87-1CW LQ-OQN S-IGVU G5KW-3 To qualify for membership on the committee the following critea must be met òYou must belong an alliance with sovereignty in one or more of the above regions òYou must be the alliance executor or be sponsored by said executor òOnly one applicant from each alliance will be accepted. To apply you must submit a written application to myself via EVE Mail. If you are not executor then the executor of the alliance must also present a letter of sponsorship thru the same means. The application must contain your name, your alliances name, a short description and background of your alliance and any other relevant information you might think is pertinent. We expect to get more applicants than we have seats for and in such a case we will decide entry upon factors such as territorial holdings, level of sovereignty, size of alliance. Once on the committee you will join your fellow members, as well as several CONCORD delegates, in creating and proposing names for the new regions. Please note that there are stringent procedures in place for CONCORD naming conventions. CONCORD will make the final decision on the naming of the regions and reserves the right to refuse any names which do not meet up to its naming convention and choose its own names if the committee are unable to come up with any acceptable designations. However, CONCORD will do its utmost to work with the capsuleer members of the committee to ensure that names are met with full participation of those involved.

There is not much reason to make it public. At least, that would be my stance on the issue if I was a CONCORD spokesperson.

Perhaps we should have a committee to discuss the changing of EVE's fonts? ;) Will this event only be for the naming of the regions? Or, will each constellation and system also be eligible for receiving names? If not, why not? Will every seat's input be taken into account, even for regions (and constellations & systems, if those are also to be named) to which that seat's alliance has no sovereignty? For example, assume that GoonSwarm and FREGE have seats on this committee. Would GoonSwarm have input on the naming of the S-I6VU region, its constellations, and its systems to which they have no sovereignty? If that is how things are going to be done (only the sovereign entities have input on the naming of sovereign areas and everyone has input on the naming of neutral areas), then what about systems in which sovereignty is only neutral because of some ****up with towers? Would sovereignty history be taken into account? For example, there are some systems which had some towers being upgraded but during the upgrade process had lost sovereignty and is now neutral during this announcement. Would that suddenly allow for every seat to give their input on the name of that system? Or else, if there has only been one alliance in the history of that region's, constellation's, or system's sovereignty, then would only that alliance have input on the naming of that area? Another issue here is that there are a number of alliances who may see this as a land-grab and try to claim sovereignty in neutral systems simply so that they can try to gain a seat. I don't want to see this happen, as they have had no previous claim to any of the regions. I'd prefer not to make any specific examples, but I'm sure all of the major players know whether or not specific other alliances actually use these regions. I suppose the easiest way to solve this issue is to base the claims to seats according to sovereignty on the day before this announcement had been made. --- How to resolve Singularity mirrors for everyone who doesn't regularly test on Singularity

I'd be more than happy to send my suggestions in. Many would send in names for each system, and as an incentive to get everyone to vote, we'd be paid in ISK or items once we voted on a system name. Then the least-voted naming suggestions would be eliminated, and the top 5 would be voted on again (again, with the above incentives) so the names with the most votes would be the new names for the system. (Note- You can submit an identical name suggestion to more than one system, but if an identical name suggestion wins in more than one system, the one with more votes is chosen, and the 2nd-place name in the other system gets chosen as the other system's name. Personally, I'd hope to name a system "Giappone." Who wouldn't want that and why? =) More excitingly, I'd hope to name a REGION (or a constellation) "Giappone" and have the system renamed to "Giappone Prime."

That way the regions would be named after some defining event in their history (as it were) rather than getting eight variations on the theme of "Boobies" or naming them after people or alliances who might conceivably not be in the game six months later. You also get interesting new fiction and potentially new writers to write more. It also allows a far wider segment of the Eve population to participate (and thereby giving you a much bigger pool of names to choose from) than just asking the people at the top of the alliances who happen to be there at the moment.
