WoW has its Leeroy Jenkins and many others depending on Server. Who are the legendary players in EVE? I appreciate those with the audacity to call themselves legends but who is truely a legend amongst their peers?

There are no legends in eve, just asshats that stand aboove the other asshats.
EVE isnt a sandbock its a maximum security prison with the good people stuck on the inside and the criminals on the outside with all teh freedoms.
So as you can see, the legends are the equivelent of space jeffery dahlmers.

There's plenty of Eve legends. People like Lord Zap, Jade Constantine, CYVOK, Chribba, Molle, the original guys in m0o. Half of the above are banned from the boards, though, so they don't get much attention among new players.
I used to get It.
Then It changed.
Now I don't even know what It is.

Tank CEO (Infamous Piwat), Verone (CEO of Veto, arguably one of the best pirate corps), Seleene (CEO of BCI and MC), Tyrrax Thork (CEO of Umbra Congregatio and IAC), Ingoramous/Rawthrorm and his (now dead) Nyx (The Establishment), Chribba and his Veldnaught, Serenity Steele and Count Tessasine of ISS, and of the more famous for their forum-activities, Dark Shikari with his mass-posting and blue spiders, Hippoking (now no longer with us on this forum). I'm sure there's many, many more, but those are some :)

There are few dozens of people who are known around. Some of them more some less. But everyone who played back in Beta and Release form today's EVE and all are respected.
To name 3-4 I believe is not fair for the others.
There is a forum about EVE's history. There you can read who did what.

Mmmm .. legendary. It comes mostly from forums and being who they are.
Avernus, TRIGGER, CYVOK, Shardale ... Hippoking/Dark Shikari ... BOB directos, Mindless, Verone.
I think I would call OrcA also somewhat celebrity for that diplomatic stunt a year or a bit more ago. At the end of day most legendary players are leaders of well known organizations or experts in some forum sections. First ones are a bit better known than section experts. When someone who can send 1000 starships (like Molle) after you if you really really **** him off or say 100 really scary ones (like Minless or Seleene) then one tend to pay attention.
EVE is a bit too big to know all legends on personal level, but a bit more names rotate in forums than in local chatter. I'm sure that people who frequent in say .. crime and punsihment know each other better than say residents of market discussions forum section. And vice versa.

Istvaan (sp?) of GHSC and GHSC itself. The article about that epic corp theft/assassination and the story about Nightfreeze is what got me interested enough to try Eve. (yes I know the Nightfreeze story was fiction)
Farjung. Never met him, even when I lived down south for a couple months, but everybody seems to know about him.

Some legends that I've come into contact with.
Shamis Orzoz - I was in SNIGG for a while before I had to quit due to RL commitments. This guy really knew his stuff.
OmberZombie - Used to be a big feature on the forum community a while back
DigitalCommunist - Great poster with a real insight into EVE. Haven't seen him around for a while.
Easy Target - Helpful guy and a mainstay for the EVE-i community.
Jim McGregor - Best poster on EVE. His opinions are always reasonable and informative. Seems like a great guy.
There's one that I'm forgetting but hopefully I'll remember him soon enough. Used to post on EVE-i from time-to-time. Damn I miss EVE-i.
HippoKing was not a legend. He was an irritating forum *****. I was so glad when he got banned because it made the EVE forums less inane in general. Never met him in-game though. |

eve's only comparison would be either curzon dax's parodies or that Eve/300 mashup. maybe the Zombies tanking concorde or the fifty billion smartbombing vids too.
as far as real honest-to-god legends go, most of them have been named up thread. although i seem to remember Ivan BlackForestGGteau being a slightly chubby canadian raver, which kinda spoils the mental image of a shadowy cat-stroking mastermind in finely tailored suits i'd built up.

A lonng time ago, I was a third of a pirating trio, along with Elisium Dammar and Tank CEO. Only lasted about 20minutes, but the system scanning skills and ruthlessness that Tank displayed, along with Elisium on teamspeak excitedly telling everyone about our escapades, easily made it the most fun I've ever had playing a computer game.

I dunno, I always thought of Tank CEO as being more of a moron than a legend, specially from his forum posts. Although at one point about 4 years ago, they suddenly changed and he became a little more literate...so I assumed his account changed hands.
People that I remember, Miso, Lord Zap, Stavros, Drunkenmaster, Skillz. Not necessarily legends but some were infamous and some were fun to read on the forums. Was there someone called M0lly or Molly? Seems to ring a bell but it has been rather a long time.
My favourite 'Pie rat' was Lilan Kahn, who only blew you up if you refused to pay the ransom. The rest weren't real pirates, just people who liked blowing other people up :P (nothing wrong with that, but at least be honest about it ;))

There are a few people who do alot but decide to keep out of the limelight. Not that hard in eve to avoid fame if you don't want it.
Then you have the smaller fames, the people who are known on a smaller scale. I wouldn't call myself anywhere near famous, but most of the people in Help channel and EVE Uni, along with eve radio have at least heard of me.

XirtamVOTF: Helping create Curse Alliance, he was and still is the Darklord of CA and old CA took no bs and was at war with pretty much all of EVE. Legendary? I think so :)
Innominate Nightmare: His 0.0 experiment was just phenominal. He is gone now and so many people wish he was back to write more. Legendary? He is now that hes gone :)

Legends?
They never really fade if remembered.
Unfortunetly I see only the 'pvpers' and forum egos mentioned. Cults of personality perhaps. Such is EVE, and it's pew pew (what's that smell?) ways.
What of the one's who've simply played the game since its inception and have remained in the dark? Of corps long gone that weren't wtfpwn mobiles, or had 'famous faces' in it? Why can't they be legends?
My original corp Sabaoth Inc had the first and greatest pre-release website, and I knew people in it. But like many corps, it fell prey to the sickness of players, and wasted away not one month into the game. For myself it will always be the legend of the corp that really delved me into this game, and would have been my only one, had fate left me to wonder from corp to corp soon after; trusting no one. That has lead me to my own legend. Coming and going with the longest corp employment history in EVE. (yep even before we had that list)
Legends again?
That all depends on your perspective. (and if you follow the crowds or not)
Meh, and just to note, Never was a Jade Constantine fanboi: Person with heaps of time on thier hands for typing on forums elequently, and an ego behind it all doesn't make them right; It just makes them look good.
Now Daniel Jackson...there was a person who could be relied on to simplify everything and do it with less typing: "Hello, I'm dumb. Here's my post"

I donÆt care about my name in threads like this I know where I stand by the amount of mail I get and how people act in locals and chat channels. I was just pointing out famous and legend are not the same to me and half of these so called legends are well known people but not legends.
The real Legends of EVE seem to have been forgotten by a lot of people. Like Dust Puppy pretty much everyone userÆs his work/formulas yet no one gives him credit any more. He should be more of a legend then half these names. There are many more old names that younger Eve pilots donÆt seem to know about any more. I bet most of the names on this list will not be posted in a new thread this time last year.

2. to a lesser degree, the Guiding Hand Social Club scam. that story became widely known in the gaming world.

no, theres alot more than that wich has reached the media.
theres been alot of media coverage about various alliances aswell and a few individuals, not to mention the latest januari scandal.
a few individuals ive seen mentioned in outside media has been istavaan (maybe the most mentioned one) sir molle, remidial, lord zap.
and i think theres a few others that has slipped my mind aswell.

Sister Tuesday, Tubes (left), Optimus Prime (left).
They all looked after me and it wasnt until i rejoined Warchild later in my eve years i relised how very respected the guy was, he doesnt use these forums, and his fame came from actions in game, remember him in his Fleet Tempests running fearlessly into a fight with his full Pith tank (when they cost 5b for the ships).
But Ultimately Diablique is my legend, was crippling when he traded characters!
Yup he's a big carebear, but an awesome one at that
