Thing is, you can't have 100% certainty of an impact. If the only things involved were the meteor and the earth, then yes - you could have 100% certainty. But you also have the moon, the sun, and various other minor gravitational influences. The 2-body problem is solvable. The n-body problem for n>2 is not. It is only estimatable.

Given the replies to the topic, would people be in favour of an international effort to get a few nukes or a laser satelite like mentioned earlier into orbit so as to intercept anything we may spot a little on the late side?

Tell the government, and make the most of my last month :)
However in such an extreme event, I think the most accomplished countries (in spacetech) would align together, select a shortlist, send asshats up to the mannable spacestations or even, given its 30 days of no bureacracy, make a larger spacestation, and then they'd probably orbit us, waiting to see how livable the planet is afterwards.
I just wish I had a skill to make the asshat list :)
