Ok. It seems that alot people awaiting for battlereport regarding killing of Thulsa Doom.
I will describe anything i saw on the battlefield, some of my thoughts, etc. I hope that MC \ BoB guys will be able to add something, so we will get full picture.
According to our beloved bee spyes - bob was making big stake at attacking FAT, so RA received 48 hr notification, regarding : "errr, guys, we need help". Mutant, MACTEP and Daira Lir responded fast, and RA got impressive cap fleet relatively fast in 5 capital jumps from home.
Before downtime - Thulsa was in local, and i received report : "I scanned him, i scanned him !". Most funny thing, that guy, that reported it, already scanned Thulsa's safespot for 2 times. One - in 49-u, second - in ED-. But all times - we had simply not enough forces to take him down quick.
So, VSlash of VVS arrived on this safespot, but it was empty. 1 minute before downtime - he saw, that Thulsa is logging out, and he is in 1 grid with our covert ops pilot.
First step we had to do - is ensure, that VSlash will log in back to eve faster then Seleene. Why ? Because Thulsa is damn fast. 14 seconds to allign and warp. Cloaked speed ~ 35. Not easy to decloak.
So, during DT - all our commanders received announce regarding "we PROBABLY got titan to kill".
DT passed, we had looong downloading time. Personally when i got in game - there have been local of 190 ppl. Good. VSlash is @ position, Thulsa offline. We started to assemble gang. While we were assembling gang - bob started to shoot one of IAC towers with battleships. I had no titan in system, so doomsdaying will require beacon, jump to it, and dd itself. I don`t know what did i think, while doing it. I just decided to go for it. So, ZumZat got in position to drop bubble on enemy forces, MostDamage bubbled them, and Ivan Wise opened cyno. Jumped, doomsdayed. In current game mechanics - this is rude mistake. Dictor 300km from you - can warp on cyno, and drop bubble, when doomsday passed. That ALMOST happened. I was little too slow with alligning, and when i was already in warp, leaving grid - bob\mc dictor warped on wreck. If he'd be little faster - who knows, who would be celebrating victory.
My thoughts about provoking me for doomsday - reinforcing fact, that Thulsa logged in, just as i doomsdayed. I don`t know, was it intentional, or not. Report on chan comms from VSlash "he is 1m km from me.... Here he is. I`m above him @ 37km".
So, we got to execution of second step of our plan. Most funny thing, that we had only ONE doomsday proof dictor. It was alt of guy with non pronounceable name : XaHyPuK ;) Fitting was developed like month ago by Kenichi and Johnatan, but only 1 guy fitted his flycatcher, and patiently wait for month to use it ;)
Second step : 2 dictors warping to him, decloaking. XaHy waits for doomsday, and probing titan ONLY THEN. While MostDamage have to get him probed instantly, as he decloaks. Titan decloaked, and was bubbled. Everybody, xept supercaps - warped on VSlash, but then things went wrong. MostDamage got killed, and podded, and titan was going VERY fast outside of first bubble. What to do ? Order XaHy to bubble him ? But then - he will be unbubbled after DD, and he will be able to warp out ? "Igor, what i shall do ? Bubble, or not, cmon cmon cmon faster, he is leaving bubble !1111" (c) XaHy. We had no other choice to do, and order to bubble him - was given. To my surprise - Thulsa decided to wait some time for DD. So, basicly, he DD, killed alot of our support, but main guy XaHy - survived, and had only 40 seconds to get ready to launch next probe (previous was DDed). All battleships was ordered to bump titan. Bah bah ! Success, titan was bumped and XaHy spammed second probe.

Third step : Most easy. Kill Kill Kill !!! All dreads = went into siege, and carriers launched fighters. At that time - i received report, that bob \ mc started to warp to titan location... Damn, and Thulsa is still @ 30% of shields. But then - intresting thing happened. He got bumped, and stuck in fighters, that was surrounding him. So, DNs were able to deal full damage. 10 shields, and screaming XaHy "take this eagle away from me ! i`m dying !!!!111" Errr. What eagle ? I cant see anything (i saw this eagle later, when Thulsa already exploded). Carriers started to pump our hero dictor, and he was just dropping bubbles on autorepeat. Thulsa is in armor. Omg, melting like a butter ! 10% of struct, and he disappeared ! WTF ?
"Guys, did we kill it ? Uhm, it seems no. My fighters is still fighitng somewhere !" "GOT KILLMAIL, GOT KILLMAIL, GOT KILLMAIL !!!" "WHO ???" "Its lequid"
Posted in gang channel, and everybody was like "uhm, we did it" ;)
Step 3. GTFO from battlefield for regroup. I was unable to take lead of the support gang. I had 30% structure left on my tempest (80% left from DD, and bumping Thulsa for a good minute). Rest of the support gang - in the same state. Everyone crippled. So i warped out, and passed command of capital gang to Eretik of RuSH. He did awesome job with evacuating caps. If not him - losses could be much and much more worse. Great job, Er.
Aftermath was following. Both RA and aAa lost 14 caps, and good bunch of support. RA = 5 dreads + 2 carriers, aAa = 3 dreads and 4 carriers. Regrouping, and counting losses.
It seems that we have 20 battleships in aAa + RA gang, while enemy had 30+. We engaged them @ dying pos. Some killed, some lost. IAC came to help, but lags were soo great, that all gangs warped out without any significant losses. Our side lost 2 - 3 bs, bob lost 1 (We killed Thol. He is our primary, always ;)), not sure about IAC.
Step 4. Try to defend IAC poses. Bob\mc started to kill IAC poses. We had to protect them from ownage, to keep claim ok in FAT. Bob killed 2 towers, but then - heavy cavalry arrived. At the time of the fighting @ titan, RA guys managed to get 6 motherships and more caps to LGK ;) Got them back, and then - we saw that enemy is jumping their caps out. So, 3 poses is out of reinforced, and succesefully repaired.
Aftermath. Battle in FAT still ongoing. Who will came on top - time will tell.
And Credits for killing ofc. Daira Lir, Mactep, Mutant, Eretik - for swift and deadly responce. VSlash - Cheetah > Ragnarok ;) MostDamage - for "where ya need probe, chief ?" XaHyPuK - Sometimes even titan pilots have to do dirty job. Gambit, BladeShadow - for helping with cooking of this plan. RA and aAa alliances as whole. Its honor for me to fly with you. CognitiveDissident - for great banner and sigs. Last but not least. Our enemies. Bob \ Mc for making this game intresting. See you on the battlefield.

Thug actually uses it a lot, used it several times in FAT- recently, and before that he used it in Querious quite a few times.
Since the patch that made dictor bubbles abort supercapital warp MC used their titan far far less than Thug did, I don't think Seleene doomsdayed anyone except a small roaming gang in the north since then. (until the blast he let off during his final fight)
also MC wasn't really "using" it, Seleene was sitting at a safespot in it and got caught.

Nice banner.
To preface things just let me say that, yes, when things went down I was indeed a bit 'speechless'. Those that know me probably consider that more of an accomplishment than killing a titan.
To say that the enemy got lucky would be an understatement. Also, to say that it was "all luck" would be very unfair as well. So, here is what I saw / know:
I had waited until the lag in local had cleared up before I logged in Thulsa. Sel was logged off and I was running another account with a dread getting ready to do some tower siegeing. Thulsa loaded with minimal lag and warped in to his safe spot and cloaked. I aligned him under cloak for the MC tower in system and then spent a couple mins helping organize the wing my dread was in.
After a couple mins I had planned to warp Thulsa to the MC tower in system for the day simply due to the large number of bad guys in local because... ya just never know! About a minute before I was ready to go into warp (I'm not sure how long Thulsa had been online but it felt like less than five mins?), I saw a pair of red squares warp in on my screen.
My first thought was that I was looking at my dread character client and, "Bah, some idiots are about to get roasted by the POS gunners." After a second I realized that this was on Thulsa's screen! Both red squares were interdictors (as that was the overview I had on) and were about 12k off of me.
Now, at this point I was not really scared just more, "WTF?" I was not in a gang yet (paranoia) and there was only one other person in MC with this particular safe spot. I immediately called for a gang invite on TS as a third ship (did not seem to be a dictor) warped in. This ship almost immediately de-cloaked me and was blasted to hell by the smart bombs a second later. I initiated warp and was very quickly bubbled.
Even at this point I was still not 'scared' but I realized that it was only going to be second before... yep, there they are - a whole ton of bad guys. Well, time to fire the DD and move out. Click - BOOM. Bubbles down, lots of things explodingà. almost in warp and I'm....
Bubbled??
It was at that moment I realized that one of the interdictors had somehow survived the DD. Try to imagine what that was like, folks. Was I lagged? Had the guy just somehow warped in just after the DD went off? Well, ain't this some ****! LOL!!
By now I was starting to lag out and was being bumped by at least 2-3 ships that I couldn't see. This, more than anything else, was what caused the ship to go down. At least 2 times I managed to initiate warp, but was being bumped out of alignment.
Thulsa was shield tanked and just as he hit about 20% shields I heard over TS that the entire allied fleet was warping in. I started to broadcast for armor and shields but I'd seen enough combat and knew my ship well enough to understand what was about to happen. I'd been reporting my status over the command channel and finally just said,
"Forget it. I'm gone. Make them pay for it."
An errie sense of calm shock hit at that moment. I did hit the screenshot key a couple times but for some reason nothing was captured (really sorry, folks). As the ship went into deep armor I just leaned back in my chair, put my hands behind my head and let out a long breath as the hull caught fire.

The lag at this point was incredible. The Raggy was still on screen with half of the modules missing even though I knew it was dead. You know that awesome state of play when your ship just sits there burning for a while taunting you? Well, after a minute or so I sat back up, found a belt and spammed the warp a few times. After nothing happened for about five minutes I simply logged Thulsa off and continied to listen to TS. Over MSN, Tholariam reported
ôWe are making them pay dearly for thatà if itÆs any comfort.ö
It wasnÆt. My mind was still trying to understand what had just happened.
The next few hours finally presented a clear picture that allowed me to wrap my mind around the loss. You see, IÆm not a covert ops pilot. I never realized that you can actually scan out a super capital in less than 20 seconds with maxed out skills / rigs, etcà IÆm betting there are a lot of people who, before this happened, didnÆt realize it either.
Then there was the matter of the tanked Interdictor. Wow. Who would have seen that one coming?
Over the last couple days, itÆs been very easy now (in hindsight) to understand what happened. It involved no small degree of skill and luck.
There will be no petition of any sort. It was a brilliant level of planning and taking a chance and ETÆs people deserve every accolade given to them for its execution. While obviously IÆm not happy about this, itÆs still a pleasure to have such ruthless enemies in such a complex game. Obviously this sort of thing wonÆt happen again so youÆll have to find another way next time.
A few interesting notes to wrap up:
ThulsaÆs pod actually did warp out to that asteroid belt before I logged him out so heÆs safe and happily flying a Vagabond for a bit.
Through some miracle, the titan wreck lived through the battle. Even more unbelievable was that an MC pilot managed to get to the wreck before anyone else and loot it. Nearly every piece of the shield tank survived (some 8 billion in fittings) along with two of the officer smart bombs.
Nearly all of the loot and salvage from the 14 enemy capital wrecks were donated directly to MC from our allies on the field.
Yes, losing a titan sucks. For some alliances it might be the end. For the MC, itÆs simply a reason to work harder, learn from mistakes and do better. I think our history this year is a testament to that commitment.
The fight goes on, brothers and sisters of EVE. See you in space.

Great report and mental picture of all that occurred. The setting up and planning from -A- and friends, to the normally unmentioned and forgotten steps of running multiple accounts as an alliance leader which play into the end result. I'll bet money DD tanked dictors will be on the checklist to both have, and strategies against.

ET, sir, reports like that, where it gives you a little "will they make it, can they do it"; are why folks look on the forums whilst at work, or otherwise stuck somewhere boring. great read! great report!
for the quoted - nice needless smack. take your own advice.

agreed fully...diddnt even think it was possible to tank a dictor to a dd. surprised as hell at that...and the new cruiser sized dictors should have no problem tanking dd then. i expect we will see many more titan deaths in the future once they release, assuming those with titans continue to frontline them.

Well, to be fair, it must have had over a billion in fittings/implants, waaayyy less than you pay for a battleship that can tank it.

If anyone sees him log off there, you can bet his enemies will anchor about 50 large bubbles, and they stop your warps from reaching the inside of a shield.

Changed in a recent patch I think. I know that when we lost o0yz to bob, they had large bubbles on our only pos and picked off people who logged there, so it does work like that.

I logged off about 5min before this went down to catch some zzzzz's. Had a dreamed we lost something big (i.e. 5 MS's). Check KB's when I woke up ours was down, but seen loads of cap kills on BoB KB and no loses and was like HELL YA! then went to our forums to read what happen and seen the thread title "Tulsa is Down". Was a bit of a shock but it's only a ship, and she went down with a hell of a bang!
Originally by: Inflexible N00b question: Why titans don't logoff in POS shields?
It was because AAA/RA were jumping in system with support. Being at the POS means they know when a DD is coming since they can see you. Thus he was in a SS waiting for a target.

I was one of the dreadnought pilots sitting in POS waiting for our siege target to be called. All of a sudden while being in my own little world, one of the higherups people on TS told us to warp to Thulsa, and at first I was confused and didn't actually warp cause it didn't specify for the capital fleet, plus the guy's mic cut out.
Then carriers and dreads started warping off and I quickly followed suit as that was confirmation enough for me. I come out of warp, and theres mucho loading lag to be had as I sit there for something that seems like 2 - 3 minutes with only me and a thanatos on screen.
Then my screen locks up and out of nowhere EVERYTHING just loads all at once and I'm like "OMG O_O!!!" - and then I see, what I THOUGHT was our Titan for the first time, hovering over an armageddon wreck and I felt like "okay he's still alive! w00t!" and so we start taking down one RA capital ship after the other, and I suddenly think, "man for having a titan locked down they sure aren't shooting at it a whole lot..why is that..".
I keep following the primary, second and tertiary targets being called and theres something like..5 - 10 minute module lag. Boom goes another dread, and another, and another..and I'm giggling with glee thinking "Baaahahahahahaah DIE! DIEEEE! KABOOOM " (sort of a manic thing going on ), and now we're working on the last few enemy capitalships, I decide to hover my cursor over our dread to see how it's holding up as it's still bouncing and turning on that armageddon wreck....
That IS an armageddon wreck right?...it says Armageddon...wait a second, its ours..Armageddon, wait it says more...Armageddon Dawn...huh??...Armageddon Dawn (Titan Wreck)...NOOOOOOEZ! I had been looking at a titan wreck all this time. The only thing that bothers me about this whole incident, is that I never saw our Titan alive, from the day it was revealed till it's demise.
Other then that, it was a good fight, and when the last enemy ship was gone, I blew up a few wrecks, then set course for the Titan wreck, announced my intentions, and I managed to salvage the DD device from the wreck and pass it on to the higherups.
After that we took a minute or so to let the Titan loss sink in, and then we were actually all quite content and okay with it, and we set course for what we originally came here to do that day, sieging POS'es. Apart from our first POS we sieged everything went quietly. At the first POS, a medium -> large support fleet showed up at sniping range, our dreads were bubbled and they commenced shooting at us. Honestly I was a little confused as to why they did this, as the order immediately came for dreads to pick their own battleship target and take them down, and so we did.
I don't recall that many enemy support ships dying though, but I know a few did before they quickly warped out again. Props to our enemies for a good fight that day ^-^

Awesome posts from Both sites.
I tryed to understand what exactly happened this day and now i know it. Tanking a dictor for a DD clearly show how much you wanted that Titankill, ET.
also good job on all that planning and scanning. as for me, i was one of the OMGWTF moments when i saw where the warp was going (i saw thulsa warping of in this direction one time, so i realized pretty quick what was going to happen if we weren¦t not fast enough)
anyways we were a bit to late. And the **** has hit the fan. happens. Some day you win, some day you lose.
I hope of more lagfree fights in the future (i had indeed nearly no lag in this fight, even if i had it was less then 10 sec. Only desycned badly one time) and foremost i hope for SMACKfree fights like this. There were no smack after th kill which impressed me very much (maybe cause goons weren¦t arround or so.. who know? )
Thanks again for the report ET. And thanks to sel for your point of view.

It's because of this kind of post that I continue to come to read the CAOD forums.
Thank you very much, Evil Thug and Seleene, for being so better than the average CAOD poster :)

I applaud Evil Thug and Seleene and others in this thread who have acted most civilly. It would be nicer to see more threads like these :).
Nice battle reports by them and a few others. It is always nice to see it from different perspectives, and also to see how things might have ended differently in the early stages.
It shows a lot of planning and a little bit of luck :).
Thoughts expressed are mine and mine alone. They do not necessarily reflect my alliances thoughts. |

I had to go to bed because I've got a bad cold with massive headaches and all. I gave Cadela my phonenumber and told him to SMS me if anything went pearshaped.
He called me up later, sounded horribly depressed and explained that we just lost our titan. The guy sounded like his favourite kitten had died.

It really is a pleasure to read a thread and find the following:
1. A good, DETAILED, battle report with no smack 2. A bunch of people from BOTH sides replying with no smack 3. The view from the other side, again, with no smack 4. People in the thread that aren't involved asking good questions and/or saying comments that aren't smack.
It's rare these days, reminds me of an earlier time in EVE. Thank you folks for bringing back the good part of 'CAOD', if even for only a few days.

After reading all five pages, I cant wait for a video to come out. I've seen pictures with fraps FPS counters in the corner so you know it's coming soon.
Amazing job to both sides. I'm currently out of game training, but it would have been amazing to listen to both side's teamspeak. How much organization and such that has to go into both attacks. Just blows my mind.
Seleene, you must have amazing strength to just sit there and watch your ship die. I don't think I could have. To both Evil Thug and Seleene, I must salute you all for the amazing story. And to both sides, fight on. Hopefully one day we could get better servers to have lag-free fights and really put our skills to the test.
BRAVO!!!! Cant wait for more posts like this, civilized and no side bashing. -------------------------------------------------

Damn nice writeup there, sir.

I lived the very start of RAT as part of ATUK and enemies from the beginning. I was surprised of how the titan got killed, but after seeing it was planned by RAT/RA, I was no more, as Goons and IAC are nothing unless RA and RAT hit the field.
Good job guys for this kill.

Sorry for newb questions but hey it will be years before i can fly one of these...

a) the basic insurance is paid out based on the 'base value' of the ships. Reports have put it at between 14bn nad 18bn isk.
b) MC and The Alliance held the field, looted all and salvaged most of the Titan, 14 capitals and numerous support wrecks.
Talking about it later, someone mentioned that all Seleene/Thulsa had to do was press ctl-Q to get out of that before he was actively agro'd, and that he had plenty of time to do so. The dreads would barely have had time to lock him before he despawned with no agro. THAT needs nerfed. We didn't think of it, wouldn't have done it, but its ridiculous that a well planned and executed gank like this could be avoided so easily.

Yeah, the ctrl-q is still a bit too effective, unless you do it with 1 minute left of your DD's aggro.
Anyway, mad props to both sides
