I'll be the first to say I've never been into the eve-online role playing aspect. Its just not my thing, but if you like it, go for it.
Likewise I have only read a couple of the stories, though some were well written, they really play no part in the eve-universe as it really is. Hell we are suppose to be in goo-pods, and these stories often involve people on the planets.
So when I saw one chick in the dominatrix role standing over another strapped to a chair in her underwear, I had to take note.
No, I can't say I read the story, but I'm sure its thrilling, I am wondering what direction is eve looking to go here. First we get a guy getting shot in the head, and despite the lack of ready sidearms for player use in eve, at least wasn't quite lowest common denominator, but now we get what appears to be two attractive women, with one torturing the other, who happens to be tied up in her underwear.
Is this a bit of white wolf influence, did the stories just get a new artist, or is this a calculated move by CCP to make eve more 'sexy'?

This must be some sort of viral marketing because I've suddenly gained a new interest in eve chronicles.

Just because it doesn't involve pod pilots directly, it doesn't mean it's not relevant - don't forget that there's an entire universe of empire politics going on. Read the stories and your questions may be answered. ---------------

Try reading the stories (the shot-in-the-head one and the tied-up-woman one are in the same series). An illustration for a story you haven't read is never going to make sense. ------

Just read the story and it will make sense. One word of warning though; Don't get to attached to the tied-up chick.

I read the stories.
I still tend to agree with the OPs explanation for the slap and tickle in the picture.
It's essentially a girl with no pants on tied to a chair and another in a catsuit.

Ok I didn't quite make my point clear.
Its not that the story doesn't make sense, isn't well written or whatever. I haven't read it, as the stories never apply to eve, they are basically no different than 'fan fiction'.
What I'm curious is to why CCP is putting a half naked chick being tortured on the home page. I guess it fits with the add they ran/run of the chick about to 'take a bite out of eve' holding a rohk (and I was shocked it wasn't a thorax too).
Sex sells but I'd rather they sell the gameplay.

Win.
Lots of the chronicles are dark and deal with not-so-cute-lalala storylines (even the old ones!). Torture, sex, death ect... I love it. No pink haired gnomes here.
How cool would eve be if it got an 18+ label so we could have more sex and gore lol.

If you haven't read it, how do you know?
Seeing as all the Chronicles can be considered "canon", they are EVE. Fan fiction is such because it is not officially affiliated with it's parent product (because its written by fans, doy). The Chronicles are written by a CCP employed author and the artwork is done by CCP's in-house art department. ------

Obviously you are one of those RP types and that swell but really, no they don't apply at all to eve. Some half naked chick getting knifed in the head or whatever has absolutely no affect to my mission running, ratting, alliance wars, pirating, mining, local smack, or any other in game activity.
The reason I called it fan fiction was that like fan fiction it has NO bearing on the real product. I'm rather disappointed really. I'd love for say a Gallante election scandal and government chaos giving the Caldari the impetus to start to raid Gallante space, but eve doesn't work that way. Maybe some naked chick getting knifed in head could be related to an NPC dread fleet attacking X station, but alas.
So I'm just going to assume that CCP is using sex to sell.

Your obvious ignorance is disturbing.
Especially in this case, I suggest you actually read up or shut up, you don't want to read it, then do not judge. This is a serious case of judging the book by its cover and you failed miserably.

I would suggest that the OP click on the Players News Center link on the left side of the screen of the main page, right above the Forums link.
There you will find a huge amount of information about things that are going on in the game that are written my CCP employees and by the ISD News guys.
Also, if you take the time to read the Chronicles you see that they are meant to explain things about the Eve Universe.

Ok, now you are just being plain silly, granted it does not affect *The universe we inhabit* but since when did any story actually do so when part of prime fiction unless part of an event?
It does however help describe the World we inhabit and allow you to realise that eve is distasteful, disgusting, inhumane and downright ugly compared to what we are currently used to.
Just because it does not bear on the gameplay or mechanics does not mean it has no place here. Maybe you don't want to roleplay or wish instead to play without a story, in which case I do actually feel for you, I agree I will never actually go out and start living eve as it were, but the immersion behind the game through the stories explain a lot and make it more fun imo.
Do you understand that concept or should I try and get a monkey to explain it to you?

This is starting to smell trollish but I will give you the benefit of the doubt.
The chronicles are backstory. If you read Camera Drones it explains the user interface. If you read The Communication Relay Committe it tells you how you are able to type a message to someone that is light years away from you 'in-game'.
The newer chronicles might seem like fan fiction to you if you don't know the reason behind them. As the game changes the chronicles try to explain why things are how they are today. Some are pure entertainment value, others explain things like PvP.
You don't need to be a RPer to appreciate the time and effort put into the creation of the game.
Again I point you to the news.
