I hope it's going to be something like that. |

the part on combat makes me violently ill. this is a space combat game, complex enough already, this dilution is ridiculous. again its the minority whiner group that gets their way, in this case its the WoW infatuated noobs who think the game isnt immersive enough when they've never stepped foot in lowsec and are still driving noob ships.
this game is a strategical rock paper scissors with a multitude of variables, not a WoW clone/fps.

Ambulation is fine and all, it may actually be somewhat cool, maybe...
But for the love of Christ fix POS warfare, fix the lag with large fleet battles, implement factional warfare and make the game more "fun" again. Right now almost every single bit of Eve seems to be extremely slow, tedious, and time consuming for little to no gain.

you don't have to use it as has been stated many times
Nobody has to use it, but it still drains developer time that could probably be better spent (say, by adding combat features, or station features, or more stuff IN SPACE). The article about "mission creep" seemed informative. Stations could introduce a whole new class of bugs without adding all that much to the game.
Originally by: XenoPagan wow, talk about a case of ancient whining this ambulation thing has been trolled and dissected over and over long time ago. you missed your train, ambulation is coming like it or not.
This is sort of a non-response to the OP. He says "New feature X is a bad thing" and you respond "New feature X is coming if you like it or not," a point which is totally irrelevant to the merits of feature X.
Originally by: Jinx Barker What it will do is add a further personalized identification to the members of the community; something which is extremely important in the cookie-cutter world of EVE spaceships. It will provide that additional "anchor" to those in game who are acutely aware of the disjointness of EVE, and how odd it is to have one represented as a "space-ship." Humans are extremely conscious of their own representation, even in virtual environments.
I think Ambulation will add to the ongoing success of EVE in the long run. Even if there will be no fighting within stations, having a corporate HQ/Common Room, or just a version of a pub to spend those long hours being camped in is an excellent idea.
Finally a legitimate point/response to the OP, and a good one. If ambulation does in fact turn out well I think you're right, having human avatars is a vital part of an MMORPG and it does seem strange to just be floating around in spaceships.

Thats all fine except as has been mentioned hundreds of times before the developers that are working on ambulation would be working on it reguardless of it being used in eve or not. Its for the whitewolf mmo, we basically are getting a new feature for our game without it being at the expense of our dev's. We're basically getting something for nothing in this deal, something that wont screw with the rest of the game will be entirely passive, wont be forced on you.
And before someone drones on about fire the ambulation dev's and hire bug fixing dev's, you might like to read this Moar dev's doesn't necessarily make it go faster

You didn't really read the article you linked to, did you.
Quote: Combat is a pandoraÆs box of problems. If we introduce combat we need some sort of combat system. Now knowing EVE players, itÆs very likely they wonÆt settle for a simple combat system. They want to train skills, combine equipment, use tactics and multi-pronged attack manouvers. This sort of system is hugely complex. ThereÆs also the issue of security, security status, CONCORD etc. Plus the issue of cloning, skill loss etc. I think itÆs frank to say that there will not be life-threatening combat in the first release of this project. WeÆve toyed with the idea of never being able to kill someone, only ôwound them seriously" so that the docbots at the medical bay can patch you together to your same self, because you didnÆt receive any brain damage. Hence no skill loss. But that still requires a system for combat. -Do we want to create a new MMPORG inside an existing MMPORG? Well, weÆre halfway there with putting you in stations. But the short answer is: no combat to begin with.
Hyperbole much?

Originally by: Aaron Walking in stations is a great addition to the game, the developers are trying hard to create something that is viewed as an experience rather that just a game.
Im all for it, some of the pictures of the interior of the stations are great it just reminded me of star trek, star wars, and firefly all mixed together.
Walking in stations will add a more in depth role playing feel to eve, they could even have npc missions that involve walking around a station repairing stuff, or solving a murder mystery, with the reward being extra standing and loyalty points. Hand to Hand combat could also be a possibility.
Keep up the good work ccp :)
Just thought I would like to point out from the bio of this character you are 5.0 sec status (loves to kill NPCs or run missions) and it appears that you have jumped in and out of the same corporation many times (alt corp to avoid wardec/pvp?)
So it's understandable that you and your kind like the idea of ambulation, but for those of us who love being *IN SPACE* even *SHOOTING PEOPLE* it will bring very little. It will make life outside of the station even more dull.
I thought EVE was great because of community driven content on top of the spaceship layer, i.e.: - ingame browser mini-games - roleplaying wars (seriously) - various online shops (naga, big, etc) - chribba's community sites - various additional plotting tools (<3 grismar) - meeting people who live on the other side of the RL planet - spying and scheming
Probably a lot more things I haven't mentioned. Why is ambulation different? Unlike all of the above it takes away from the core of EVE which is internet spaceships.
This is something that will be fun for a lot of people to get into EVE and play, instead of their internet spaceships. I predict space will become even less exciting when this feature comes in.
Previous things that have made space less exciting: HP buffers (more blobs), WTZ (ship size is irrelevant now), Polycarbs (oh look, rapier decloaked and he MWD'd 50km before I could get a lock) and local standings (oh, red in local, better warp to POS and hope that he doesn't scan me out, warp to me, lock and scramble me in the 10 seconds it takes to align!)
I'm not bitter, just puttin' this all on the record so I can say "I told you so.." if I am right. I still have a good ammount of fun, enough to keep me happy for now. So no, you cannot have my stuff.

Some observations:
- What's the point of ambulation if there's no consequences? You can't dance the mararena because its a dark and grim world, yet you can't shoot each other. - They may say it doesn't take resources and manpower from the fixing / enhancing dept, but the truth is that CCP has a development budget. Some of that has been asigned to ambulation instead of the main client. - If it happens to attract new people one can only imagine the amount of whining that will come from those. The forums are already bad enough.

Your logic is ill, to answer your question, no, it was not to avoid wardec or pvp. I did it to leave my alt in charge while my main joined other corps to travel around.
Walking in stations will improve the "feel" of eve weather your a miner, suicide ganker, or mission runner.

I completly disagree with your statement, Walking in stations will not take anything away from eve, its a simple case of if you dont want to walk in stations, dont. All CCP are trying to do is create a realistic view of a distant future, ambulation will simply add to this.

I think therell be new skills thatll be rank .5 or something in ways of gunnery and navigation to increase running speed as well as hand-guns. Who knows if CCP makes this aspect good then I see no reason not to have "holo-decks" where corpmates can spar in an FPS like arena.

Just basing on experience. I know for a fact your alliance's idea of PvP is sit in the POS until you outnumber 5:1 (and then bring in allies too).. so at least if I am wrong about you being a war hopper I take pleasure in knowning you will not enjoy ambulation in your Providence/Catch POS towers

No, you're* wrong. I don't even dock in stations if I can help it, when I do I stay there as little as possible. What does this bring for the nomads fo EVE? Oh right, sweet **** all.

In 0.0 for example, one side will have it and the other side will not. That's an extreme example, but you and I both know people will spend a lot of time in this, and that's a lot less time outside the station.
so how can you conclude that it wont take anything away from EVE? Of course it is going to take away something from EVE. If you cannot see that there is no hope for you my friend.

, As ive said before your logic is ill, the bottom line for every single eve player is that they have to undock and perfom some sort of task, weather it be mining, ganking, missions etc, if this is not done they wont make any isk, thats a fact.
Ambulation will not take anything from eve, simply because it is everyones objective to make isk, and in order to do this you MUST undock.
I know that ambulation will not affect the number of pilots in space at all.
If a player was to simply log on to eve and never undock because their just walking round a station how would they ever accomplish anything?
And why you pass judgement on how my alliance does pvp is silly, you talk as if there is a rule book that specifies how an alliance must fight when faced with a pvp sitiuation. The end result for any pvp is the destruction of the enemy ship(s), As long as this is acheived without using exploits, or breaking EULA, there is no problem.
So my dear friend, it appears that there is no hope for you.
