Edited by: Swamp Ziro on 06/10/2007 21:51:34 Awesome as in , anchor a GSC before you start mining a belt, and mine away with impunity for days?
Won't the NPC take like... a long time to kill one?

a highsec can would take... hours... DAYS for a npc to kill.
Lowsec might only take a few hours depending on spawn
0.0, might take an hour :)

Hmm. Can you remote rep a can? Keep an SSC in your hold. If a weak rat spawn (one that can't kill the can fast) happens then ancher the can, warp out, warp back and keep a remote rep on the can. Voila! no need for a tank to mine.
I'm all for this idea.
... and if you can't tell yes, that was sarcasm.

A 3x 1.85m BS spawn would take around 20 min to kill a giant secure can. A 3x mid level frig spawn (around 10k bounty) would take around 4-5 hours. ---------------------------------------- A Guide to Scan Probing in Revelations |

Even if it may take them long at some point it will mean an decrease in anchored containers in belts.
That and it was pretty funny to watch them munch on the hp of that anchored can for awhile
And noticed it only because of some other testing which i could have done at any location but happened to choose that particular belt. It was a surprise to see and feels like a good solution instead of the unexplainable slowly dieing cans or the fuel requireing cans. Doesnt solve all anchored cans but atleast the pests in the belts are cooked

Confirmed yup they are shooting at cans on sisi.
They will select you as a target and come after you once you are in the belt. But if you leave they go back to shooting cans. \o/

Absolutly fantastic way of cleaning up space lol, very original I might add.
I can just picture the CCP office tonight:
Oveur> Hey, which of you programmers made the npc's attack cans? The players love it! Programmer 1> It's a bug sir. Oveur> Oh... Programmer 2> I'll remove it asap. Oveur> *stips his whiskey, puffs a cigar* ... No, leave it. -----------------------------------------------------

Not a bad move, but what will happen to the cans in 0.9-1.0 where no rat spawn?
Concord will use them for target pratice?
Could be a good idea .

Edited by: Gane Green on 07/10/2007 19:59:53 They dont focus fire from what im seeing. It wouldnt hurt if they reduce the hp of the structure so they fall in line to a reasonable timeline.
With how they are I dont see the spammed belts in empire dissapearing for about 15 years. Maybe reduce the hp down for about 3 months and raise it back?

I think they might disappear faster than you think... it adds up over time.
Although I would still like to see what they are going to do about cans at gates and in 0.9/1.0 :)

No that is secure cans only. I'll have a look on the test server to check this though.

Edited by: Devian 666 on 08/10/2007 03:13:11 The rats only seem interested in killing secure cans and are not showing any interest in jet cans.
In high sec the rats do anywhere from 2 to 13 dps. Assuming a busy system that isn't idle and not loaded a single 13 dps rat will do 1.16m damage in 23 hours.
I don't remember the stats of a GSC but I thought they were around 250k hits of 0% resist. So a single 0.5 rat would be able to kill 4.6 cans per day assuming it's unmolested by players.
Nice way to free up the database and unclog belts. 0.0 and low sec will clear out quickly but high sec will be a slow eventual process.

Watched some 0.0 rats wreck a few cans. Only problem is they very rarely cloak a player in the belts and only after can destruction.
I've put in a bug report with the pros and cons. Even one person on the test server said that he hoped it was a feature.
