Well done once again chaps. However, I'm seriously going to have to record a N00b Speed Tanking Guide and send it to you, because it seems the only way to get one into the podcast after weeks of clamering and rabbling from the masses.

I listen to your show while I'm at work & I love it! Very entertaining.
Would be great to have interviews with CEOs, Director's or Eve personalities on corporate management, FC basics, how to fight wars in Empire & 0.0, what to look for when joining a corp, how to manage POS's, Eve-Voice protocol, what to do while being chased or bubbled, using the scanner etc...this is stuff I'd love to learn more about from the experts.
I'd also like to hear more anecdotes, when did you know you're 'hooked', what corps have you been in -how were they different, how has your experience and goals of Eve changed over time. It might also be interesting to have mini-debates eg. scamming is good/bad for Eve, should players be less anonymous/accountable, how would you improve blob warfare -topics often on the forum but short on intelligent & civil discussion.
I'd also be happy to listen to mini sci-fi stories perhaps which good voice acting *ahem* ^^. Failing that, tales of adventure & intrigue will suffice.
Keep up the good work!

When ever RSF or Goons in general are discussed it is always with the "LOL TECH1 Frigates" argument. You barely discuss the fact that RA/AAA/IAC knocked out your Titan within months of its unveiling. Mostly just a "well at least we use it"
There is no talk of the war in the south, you fail to mention that BoB has all but abandoned their pets to our incoming masses. k-9 is lost, CORM are on the run, RISE hasn't been able to use their stations in the RIT triangle for weeks and your own Alliance leader is fed up with BoB and their whole "chasing two rabbits" Look I get it your in MC, I just think there needs to be some more balance, if you want to be so neutral report from the other side too.
I like the podcast, I wouldn't be posting here and giving you this bump or downloaded the last 15 episodes if I didn't. I just wish people would get off the idea that goons are nothing but noobs in tech1 frigates or that we have to run behind RA's skirts every time a battle doesn't go our way. We run behind their skirts because there is generally vodka back there .
All right I've said my peace.

if you talk about goonies in a positive light at all you'll be called for hating bob. if you speak on BoB with any sort of positive light your anti-goon.
take eve TV for example when people got ****ed about too much BoB and then got ****ed about Goonies all in the span of a week.

Personally I didn't take it as a whine, and I don't think anyone else should either.
We talked about the south (well south-ish) to some extent, there's just not much in the way of new news happening. Nothing omgwtf!-like, anyway. Yes I'm in MC, and as such I get news from a particular perspective. But I also keep as much of an ear to the ground as I can on other affairs. Want your stuff covered? Tell the world about it more, since I'm not going to put alts in every major alliance to siphon news.
For the record, this last postcast, I'm pretty sure I was the one who pointed out the fact that tech1 frigates aren't the order of the day anymore. Still on the menu maybe, just not on the specials board.
Anyway, we can only cover what we hear about, and won't cover stuff we can't (to a reasonable extent) confirm as accurate.
Well that's my stance anyway. English people are weird though, so I make no excuses for Urban.

No new news? How about the fact that CORM have been completely removed from their stations? I don't think I heard any mention of that?
I understand you can only really report on what you know about and since MC isn't really a factor ATM in the "deep south" (hehe) you don't have a full picture of what is going on. You could have mentioned the fact that MC lost its hold in the north though, I didn't hear anything about that.
Maybe you should look for some other sources of news besides just COAD, have you guys tried asking around for quotes, non-opsec information and such? I'm pretty sure if you would have asked CORM they could have confirmed that they blew up their own Cap Ship Array thinking the ships would then just come spilling out like some kind of spaceship pinata

I could have sworn there was something about the whole CORM thing in this podcast. I can't remember though. That and my brain is half mush right now thanks to work.
CAOD's not the perfect place for news (I wonder who we have to thank for that, hmm? :D) but it's a decent barometer for what areas are worthy of attention. We're also more than willing to add details provided by players about things we've mentioned that may not have been fully fleshed out, as I've stated we can't be everywhere at all times. Well I know I can't, but Urban sometimes can after he eats two bites of a special Magic Haggis he makes (the secret is lots of herbs and fungii).
I guess what I'm saying is, we're not inflexible. :P

You did talk about CORM blowing up their Cap Ships but you did it in a way to say "oh we don't really believe this" and Urban made some comment about the Weekly World News and such. All I'm saying is that I bet people would be willing to give you their story but you have to ask. Just but a little bit more :effort:
Anyway keep it up, I do enjoy the podcast (despite your bias ) but I think you guys can do better.

Well firstly while we do have informants in various corps who we talk to regally. This week unfortunately, as we mentioned in the show, we have been stupidly busy with RL work. Even with normal work schedules its still impossible for us to keep up with everything though. Nobody has ever claimed that WDA is the definitive source of all news in EVE (that's why we have the disclaimer in the first paragraph of every set of show notes)
Of course we would like to have dozens of informants and become "the BBC news" of EVE. In fact there is so much going on in New Eden, I think that somebody doing a daily news show would be an entirely practical proposition.
However its only practical for the people with the time and the access to do it properly and frankly that's not going to be Blinky or myself unless we can work out how to earn a living from the podcast. I'm pretty damn sure thats not going to happen!
However if you (or anyone else for that matter) wants to send us information about whats going on in your bit of EVE, please do. You can convo me in game if you want, send me eve mails or send emails to podcast(at)winterblink(dot)com and we will be sure to check them out.
(oh if anyone wants to employ us to do the podcast full time, get in touch) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Edited by: K Kinnison on 10/10/2007 03:23:21 A quick question for Urban...
Why do you keep pronouncing Tritanium as "Tritium" ???? I don't know a lot of the pronounciations in EVE, such as I thought Gallente was pronounced without the "E" at the end, but surely the "AN" in Tritanium is pronounced???
Just wondered!

Hmmm... EVE pronounciations... sounds like an amusing topic to engage Urban in conversation about during the next podcast. :D
PS: I say it like "gallentay", not "gallent" like some weirdos do.

I suppose I always thought Gallente was maybe an old French word, and without the E acute at the end, it would be pronounced "Gallent" ! But it could be either way. I'd like to hear how Urban argues that the "AN" in tritanium is silent though :)

Yeah you guys could charge people isk to have ads in your podcast :) I can picture it now the next weeks start up instead of the usual gag we get Winterblink in he's "serious" voice: "Today's warp drive active is bought to you by those good folks in corp x, whether you fly a battlship or a frigate x offers cheap deals on used space ships"...
Seriously though I think if you'd charged corps to advertise for recruits during your show people would probably take you up on it, partially solves Urban's problem about finding people to pay him to do the pod-cast too

I do believe that in the tanking guide in episode #14 Urban stated that the shield compensation skills increase the resistances of your shield by a percentage. This is not entirely accurate as what they actually do is increase the percentage benefit gained from using passive hardeners by 5% and active hardeners by 3% (when not actively hardening).
/me sets off a small concussion grenade which by shear fluke provides enough force to 'nudge' the WDA post back to the first page.

One small inaccuracy that i'm 99% sure i'm right on that I noticed mentioned a few times. Wreck bumping IIRC was solved a patch or two ago, and now wrecks don't stop you alligning. The bumping that must have gone on of the MC titan I imagine was fast ships ramming it. I think that it would allign as if wrecks weren't there.
But that does raise another issue, while I have been in gangs that have used bumping to kill capitals, knocking them away from outposts the thing can confuses me is Vagabond/Crow etc knocking a Thanatos out of the way. Ships smaller or the same size as its fighters drones pushing it out of the way rather than bouncing off it. The physics of that one is something I have trouble suspending the belief of in game.
Well like I said thanks for the podcast and its great to have you back and doing your thing, I hope real life remains managable :)

If you do not take in Dri Kulsane's total inability to pronounce ANY shipname in this game correcy.. and considering that English is his native toungue, that is really scary.

Yes, but on the podcast it sounds like it was a logon trap, which it technically was since it was a trap for when Thulsa logged in, but it wasnt a logoffski, which i think 99.9% of everyone who heard it thought it was :) I just want right to be right so to speak :)

I bet Blinkie doesn't know who Captain Sensible is too.
I finally finished reading Players of Games and Iain M Banks is an author I first picked up because he spells his name right, living in Canada with a name like Iain has been a problem. My grade 2 teacher told me I was misspeling my name and made me stay in for recess to practice spelling it correctly, she got 500 Iain's on one page for her trouble and later a rebuke from my parents. I have read a few of his books and would recommend reading any of his books.
I like the book homework assignments, but I work and play Eve alot and it is difficult to read a book in a week. Perhaps you could have a book to read for the month and have easier to accomplish assignments for the weeks.
wow, the conversation with the women of Eve linked here is surprising in its candor and its lack of professionalism. There are alot of dead time in the talks. Having someone go over the thing and tighten it up would be better than it is.

The dev blog? Well, you have to understand the live dev blogs aren't meant to be highly produced strict affairs. Just a bunch of devs recorded using EVE Voice, answering questions. I'm sure some editing does occur, but they're never intended to be slickly produced recordings.
Besides, it'd just delay getting the recording out to the masses if it was done that way, since audio editing can take a while even if you know what you're doing.

It's actual meaning is 'Fail Clown', however due to the sheer negativity of being "promoted" to a 'Fail Clown', 'Fleet Commander' quickly became the offical meaning for FC.
