You've yet again introduced half a solution to nothing.
Adding these waste of time stations without an effective means of defence you've achieved "your personal little joke" of injecting chaos and completely screwing over everyone with an interest in POS.
The only way you can solve your current blunder is get your finger out and release player owned setry guns and make these mythical warp distruptors more available.
Every night people go to sleep only to found their station conquored in the morning. How lame! I say you've succeeded in only one aspect of this game, proving that your all powerful gods who by introducing a semi workable attribute to the game can cause what ever galactic state of security you like.

A couple of things that I never thought I would need to point out to someone in EVE:
PLAYERS need to defend the station. That was the intent from the beginning.
To do this means that you need to UNDOCK from said station. But don't forget to exchange the mining lasers for some sort of weaponry.
On Earth, there are time zones. Do you expect CCP to nerf time zones so that you can have your station 24/7?
If you don't like how the game is, unsubscribe.
And finally, don't pester us about how the game was not designed how you wanted it to be designed. Pester them.

You think sentry guns will protect a station? Only the uber empire ones, and if thats the case nobody would ever be able to take a station over.
The only people with stations should be the huge corporations that have some 200+ people who CAN defend them.
And they should also have to PAY to keep them up. ------------------------------------------------ Serve the State Join Channel CAINCOM |

Edited by: Neminem on 22/02/2004 10:52:27 Ok Mar Do you know of any corp that has 23 hour member cover? I don't and if their are there are few. SO all that is required is 3 or 4 shift working players to login at 4am and blow the station up... real clever. These stations are a waste, with one service... come on. Pointless. Besides defending a station 23 hours a day pretty much removes the ability to anything else like perhaps use it.

The main idea behind this rant is valid.
When people discussed player owned stations, most of them agreed that there had to be at least a 24 hour limit before station can change hands. Some suggested more than that. This time limit would make station taking gameplay transparent to time zone issues.

24 hour time limit seems a little long. While I do agree that them only providing one service does in fact make it not as useful as it could be, I also hope and pray that these arent the beginning and the end of player owned stations. I would HOPE that players could eventually build there own stations, and configure them as needed.
But the fact still remains, no amount of NPCs are going to protect your station for you.
PC's can and will have to do it. When I played Jumpgate a certain group of people took over a station and held it for several months against any and all, and they had only a fraction of the numbers that these alliances can produce, so it is possible.
right now, the stations seem more like trophys than useable items. ------------------------------------------------ Serve the State Join Channel CAINCOM |

The stations in venal are changing hands 2-3 times a day atm which if you ask me sucks some thing needs to be done about this. Also what the hell is the point of a clone station in deep space i mean come on

I mean come on if you have a -10 security rating and you clone in a 1.0 space and you leave station and get blown up where is there anything wrong? I mean come on n00b why do we need clone stations ot begin with? RTFM and please spare us your newbieness and n00bness.

PO Sentry guns won't help. Not only will you wake up to find your station gone, but your sentry guns will be dead too, and the one guy they shot at for 20 seconds before they died will be in *your* station repairing his ship... .

Curse Alliance owns and has not lost around 21 stations since the patch, + a further 2 we currently own in the contested area of Catch + a further contestes 9 in the Fade and surrounding regions area. 32 out of 63 isnt bad :)
While the refining stations are nice, the cloning stations DEEP within our own lines are useless to us, as there are many cloning stations closer to the action. There would be little point investing in sentry guns etc at this point, as stations have no great value to us as an alliance. Give us a steady income from holding the stations, and it gives us an incentive to capture them. OR give us a bonus, Planetscape style, whereby, for instance, for every station you own, Shield HPs go up by 5%. BUT before all that, create a proper alliance structure with alliance wallet, alliance station ownership, Alliance hangars etc etc.

there have been long discussions with good ideas on this one.
ccp ignored them all, and went for the easiest solution.
it makes little sense at all, of course.

Neminem-
Once again, we are seeing a rant that is attempting to get CCP to push out game material that's more than likely not full tested with the CQ stations....typical and completely expected from the likes of you.
YOU would like to see CCP dish out the full station itself, complete list service allowance to owner, defense mechanisms that defend while you sleep or mine away a roid.
Well, I got news for you. If you wanted the whole package at once RIGHT NOW, you would have had one large, bugged station interface that would probably effect the whole server's stability over your petty station ownership.
Don't you know that the player-conquerable stations are still being tested while you take and lose the ownership and battle outside of it? Its part experiment, part adding new material to EVE.
YOU expect your ranting to push out unready material. Be damn well thankful you have stations out there in space in the first place. And don't be stupid and putting things in corp hangars until said defenses and mechanisms are put in place. Just use personal hangars.
They are conquerable for a reason. Means another corp can take it over. Get off your hype and realize that they are not meant for total ownership unless you have the player base means to do so.
There will be player-owned modules in Shiva that will have more effective defenses available to use. So you either put up 24 hour guard or you WAIT till the code is created, tested, fixed, retested, fixed, retested, put on chaos, taken off chaos, fixed, put on chaos, and finally implemented into main server. (As usually how it works from observation.) Then you might get some (minor) defenses for your silly stations.

The implementation of PO Stations is a start. From this the Devs can get a lot of feedback from posts such as this and many others.
Judging by the information released about the next major patch it looks like mobile stations of a modular nature can be built and captured. Whilst this may be the domain of the Mega Corps it will be an improvement.
I am sure in the the meantime players will learn to adapt, exploit and make the best of the situation. I suspect the Devs will be making changes to the current implementation of PO stations as they learn from our experiances.

Ok clever guy.. If you have a minus -10 sec rating you should have a better understanding of the game and maybe realise that having a clone in 1.0 space is not worth the isk you paided for it but you don't have to have more than a few brain cells to work that out.
What i am talking about is having a station that is 30 jumps from a station that you can build things in. Oh i have a idea lets clone jump to a station in the middle of no where and fly around in a noob ship in 0.0 sapce good one.. Or the other situation lets set my clone there so when i get killed in a fight i can not just get another ship and carry on instead i have to fly 30 jumps to pick one up in a noob ship.
Sin Ist please stfu and don't call people noobs with stupid post like yours

Dear god. All of these people always posting about how horrible CCP and EVE is!
Why the blazes are you still here, if this is all so horrible? Stop whining and quit the game, if it isn't worth your time! If -you- think you could do it better, form a game company and -make- a better sci-fi MMORPG! Or, if you're going to stick around and continue playing -- as I figure the vast majority of you will -- then hush up with the whines and the rants, produce some constructive, helpful, mild-mannered posts and -play.-
Last I checked, this was a game -- one you had to actively -choose- to play, one which you choose to play because you're enjoying it.
Myself, I'm going back to playing what I consider to be a damned fine game. Maybe I'll see you on the server?

Edited by: Mon Palae on 22/02/2004 20:39:12 Idea for improving station capture (JUST an idea so try and keep the flames to a minimum and see if a 'better' way can be hashed out between everyone).
1) Station is attacked and shields are brought down.
2) A timer begins counting. For the next 6 hours (or whatever seems best) anyone may dock at the station and no fees are levied (previous ownership has been broken).
3) An EVE-mail is sent to all members of the corp that previously owned the station that their station is under attack (or alliance if such a thing could be managed).
4) After the 6 hour timer is over ALL ships are booted out of the station (not sure about logged off players...either their ships stay inside and cannot undock while the following occurs or they risk having their ship tossed out the front door unpiloted).
5) No one can dock at the station for 20 minutes or as long as battle is joined outside the station. Once the 20 minutes are up and no fighting is occurring outside (i.e. one corp/alliance is left standing) that corp/alliance can dock and claim the station.
I realize this may be a bit hard to support from an RP view of the game but in this case I think it is a nod towards the fact that it IS a game and some allownaces have to be made.
The defending side should get some benefit for being the defender and the attackers have to climb a hill to achieve a takeover. This would allow a corp/alliance to respond to an attack without worrying that they have a fleet online 23/7. This would allow some (relatively) smaller corps to compete but in the end a big corp that wants the station will probably prevail anyway. This would certainly force some large fleet engagements which might be interesting.
Anyway...just a thought.

Hm. Interesting idea, Mon Palae -- we could explain it fluffily by saying that the shield failure causes a general shutdown of station defenses, which includes IFF for the station docking manager? After six hours, it finally restarts, at which point the IFF system rejects all docking attempts before it's available again for reprogramming?

Of course, this works for the decrepit, half-destroyed conquerable stations that CCP put in, but do we know whether or not there will be any capturing/destruction option for outposts? The slideshow from the last newsletter seemed to indicate that the primary issue was theft, not Ye Big Fleet o' Pirates blowing up the entire operation for the hell of it.

Sophiale,
I don't want TEST semi ready stuff in the game. I don't want CCP to push unready stuff into the game either.
What I want is a system that is just a little more stable that "shields gone" "take station" That is elemetary thought, I'm sure they could have put just a little more effort into the process.
I do realise they are conquerable. But a Frigate conquering a station with enough ammo is dumb. It should take a fleet 20+ ships, over three hours to take. Not 5 BS's 15 minutes.
As with so much else they have undershot the mark and made it too easy.
Try read between the lines and see this as more than just a rant, and don;t quote SHIVA to me, cos that pipedream has still to leave the drawing board. |

This thought does have a small hole in it. Good idea but small hole. If I wanted to cause a distraction I would go and attack some ones station with an alt or maybe bunch of alts attack a whole heap of stations.
When the defenders rock on up, either do the following;
a) Log off and log on battleships and blow the defending party to bits. Pending who came of course, don't want to fight something bigger and more powerful.
b) When the defnders show up, all log off and log on with mains at the real station we were originally planning to nuke/take over. Since the defenders were alerted via EVE-mail that a base was under attack, they went off and left others undefended.
They were some ideas. the 1st one does seem more likely if EVE-mails were being sent around.

Maybe make it that the EVE-mail only goes out once the base's shields have dropped and not merely one guy taking a pot shot at it. If the shield's are down then the station is potentially up-for-grabs and it is worthwhile that the former owners know about it and can decide whether or nto to go and take it back.
