I'm currently very happy with the window-stacking and inventory sorting functionality. I just reinstalled after a long hiatus, and it only took me 3-4 minutes to get every window positioned and stacked just the way I like it.
ISSUE: Station containers are unweildy and their contents cannot be searched or used directly in manufacturing and research. SOLUTION: Either make station containers searchable and industry friendly, or replace them with a filter/tag/folder/etc system.
On the other hand, my overview settings took a bit more effort. Here are a few things I've noticed:
ISSUE: When importing/exporting the overview settings, the checkboxes under the Overview Settings -> Appearances tab, are not saved. SOLUTION: Provide the option to save and import them.
ISSUE: Under the Overview Settings -> Filters -> Types tab, the tooltips for each item simply repeat the item name. For instance, hover over Asteroids -> Bistot will give a tooltip that says "bistot". While this isn't a serios issue for asteroids, there are many celestials, entities, orbitals and structures whose names are not self explanatory. This can be very confusing, especially to the newer players. SOLUTION: Make tooltips that give useful information. They don't need to be complete tutorials, but a short explanation would help.
Lastly, a note on the new neocom (which I like).
ISSUE: The new neocom has no pop-up or tooltip to let you know that all of the unused buttons are hiding in a menu under the "E" icon. I didn't know where any of that stuff had gone until I had to go to the help channels. SOLUTION: Add a neocom tutorial? If this tutorial exists, then it didn't appear for me. |

Problem: The unified inventory window takes up too much of the screen, obscuring a dangerously large portion of the screem when flying in space. A size reduction to solve this problem reloates all stacked windows and can be tedious to correct. Spawning a new inventory window overrides the old inventory window's location if the old window is closed first.
Solution #1: Add the ability to permanently seperate portions of your inventory into a window with its own shortcut on the neocom. This would allow commonly used inventory locations (cargo-holds, your personal hanger tab, etc) to be opened in smaller (unobtrusive) windows.
Solution #2: Use a drop down menu for inventory locations instead of a sidebar. This would allow players to reduce the footprint of the window without losing functioanlity.
