As far i'm aware both versions normal and shader 3.0 will come with new and improved textures for all ships.
the main difference is that the shader 3.0 will come with a hell lot of eye candy graphics capable to even throw more realism to ships.
if you check the screens for the new ships models they don't look so complex that you need one of the lastest cards to run. (my computer is amd 2900 with radeon 9600 pro) and i'm quite sure it can load with ease those new textures.
on the other hand if you watch the eve video about ambulatory in tentonhammer, you can see a whole more detailed ammar station, wich makes me think that's how the shader 3.0 graphics will be. Every man know he's going to die, but no one believes such thing can happen |

I should be able to look at the fnacy sm3 effects and go 'ooooo shiney!!!' and then turn the graphics back down so i can play the game in any sort of combat situation...
my brother computer got that card also and yes it should be capable, to use the fully potential of the new engine.
i have 3 comps 1 for play 1 laptop for home and my brother one cuz i hate laptops, call me a freak Every man know he's going to die, but no one believes such thing can happen |

No no no no no... Old engine stays at it is, no new textures, no new lightning, just exactly the same as it is now... Oh and guess what, i do have a source:

We currently have our client, this client you use every day and it will remain.
In the november expansion we will release Trinity II, a DX9 version of the client.
So we will have two clients at this point, the original and the Trinity II with DX9.
At some point in the future we will also release a DX10 version, but this is not the Trinity II expansion.

well i know the dx8 will come with a new trinity engine, that's why i tought ccp may add some based new textures, offering an improvement from current ones.
anyway we just need to wait a bit more until the mistery resolves.

Oh i'd love that to happen, but the dev post i quoted above claims the client won't change (just the new content aka new t2 ships etc.). On the other side, if your pc supports sm3, you can download net content etc, you will be able to download the new trinity engine, and hence get a performance increase... Also, how do you KNOW that the dx8 engine will support the new trinity engine? Are you an Dev alt or something?

You seem to be mistaken. The current nvidia 8XXX serise cards (8800GTS,GTX 8600GTS,GT, ETC) all support DX9 and will run the Trinity II DX9 client fine I'm sure. I would LOVE to know where you got the crazy idea a $600 top of the line card would not run a almost 5 year old version of Direct X 9c
Personally I can't wait till next year when the DX10 release comes out...
Cards I'm sticking too...... Long list but two of them are a pair of 8800GTS.

8800GTS 320MB is very common if you want a good one for a reasonable price.

Oh great, factory overclocked cards... So you can send back the non working clocked cards 10x as a warrenty, and then after 10 months finaly get one good working one, and whine about EVE having graphic artifacts...
