I agree with some of what the Op has said. A good example is my corp, we have about 50 members are pretty active (generally have 20-30 people on a night) we've been looking to try to move out to 0.0 for the last few months, basically we reached the conclusion that our corp on it's own would never be big enough to hold space as it would be relatively easy for a bigger alliance to come along with capital ships and steam roll us.
We had a serious think about getting together and forming an alliance of our own. With the intent of settling into a region of 0.0, In the end we decided it wasn't worth it and have now (as in last 24hrs) applied to join a much larger 0.0 alliance and have been accepted (I think).
CCP should be asking is why so many people want to be in 0.0 simply put it's because Empire is boring and Low-sec sucks. Rather then limiting the 0.0 space alliances can hold as the op suggested, I think CCP should seriously think about making low sec space useful. If lowsec had decent rats, decent roids etc there would probably be less of a drive from corps like mine to want to settle in 0.0 make lowsec like 0.0 without soverignty, I guess make it NPC 0.0. People will probably disagree but just an idea I had.

There's a way into 0.0 for smaller corps. Make friends with other small corps and forge an alliance capable of taking a station system in 0.0. Eve isn't going to be one entity controlling the entire game, people who think that are just ignorant to the current politics.

You didn't actually try tho, did you?
A well set up faction POS with a cynojammer costs what? 1 billion? 1 and a half tops? A lot less if the tower itself isn't faction.
And that POS will **** on most BS fleets that will come to evict you, as long as you guys toughen the **** up and defend your space.

I believe your thinking of the little guy and props for that. Not only that get rid of stargates IMO we have probes and exploration could be used in the sense of the word, Making logistics harder, looking for natural worm holes into what is or could be new regions. but keep the stargates we have all ready, the wormhole thing would make the logistics to much of a effort for some alliences and give the smaller group a chance to get a foot hold.
On another point some large allieces deserve the space they have on per head count, and effort but ATM its like playing 8v8 player AOE on small map.

I don't know what the OP exactly originally said but I get the jist from the replies. Disregarding our "eviction" of PL (who I'm fully confident will be living in 0.0 again very soon :P) taking 0.0 space is fully accomplishable even if you only start small. However, obviously 50 people aren't going to be able to achieve it on their own without expansion, a bit like a corner shop can't dominate the retail market without expanded their ranks in RL business.
Constructively, I'll tell you how TRI went about it, as it obviously is the case I'm most experienced with. Christmas last year, there was about 30 of us in the alliance living out of empire. We realised that if we wanted to progress, it was either becoming a pet and taking on their blues, moving into some cushy 0.0 space and building from there. Instead we decided that we'd make our name around low-sec, and use the wonderful thing called the forums to gain some PR notice for our alliance. With a few well thought out recruitment posts, our numbers grew and we saw the chance to move up to NPC 0.0 and start making a living out of there, still growing. Biding time + watching political situations, while doing something different to most alliances and growing through it lead to us being in the position to take the space we wanted.
The great thing about the game and expansion is the variety of things you can accomplish, and the harder you have to work to do them. It's just if you want it. If you want to remain small, there are plenty of ways to make your way into 0.0 and prove your worth. If you want to achieve greater things, and test yourselves, then the opportunity is there to expand. --------------------------------------

As i said Angel i have much respect for Tri and what they have achieved, i remember when you was in Venal with only 300 members and yes you have achieved much without the need for friends. Perhaps there is hope..

Edited by: Threv Echandari on 16/10/2007 21:28:02 I understand what the OP fears about Tranq becoming like the Chinese Server. But I don't think that will happen just due to cultural diffrences. (Chinese is culturally Homogenous Tranq..is not and your kidding yourself if your don't think it matters). I have not been around long but have read the forums and histories and have seen this concern before and they have been largly unfounded. Currently the situation with GBC and RSF is an interesting Forever war (for reasons well elucidated by whatisisgoodfor) but it can't last forever and regardless of whomever wins internal pressures will cause the "winner" to Fragment. This state of affairs will create (and has created) many opportunities for Hungry groups who can not only fight...(Good PvPers are not uncommon, really) but who have social/leaderships skills to keep it all together. (Ahem see xxAngelxx's post we weren't always big and still comparativly speaking).
I don't think putting artificial limits on the amount of space you can take is valid either. This disincentivises going out there in the first place.. or to put it another way if you didn't have to work for it then it has less worth to you and if it has less worth and no incentive to do better then it gets boring and you'll go play WoW or something.
If we can do it others can do it.
