Is it an interceptor, a covops, or some other ship type
Initially, I thought a covops would be best because you can use a recon probe launcher faster.
However, it seems an interceptor has a greater chance of surviving a bubble camp in 0.0.
So which is the best ship for PvP gang/fleet scouting in 0.0?

Ceptors/dictors are better forward scouts, covert ops ships better rear scouts + probe support. Ceptors are cheaper (less of a factor now) and more survivable, and will be able to tackle any opportunitstic targets ahead of the main gang, whereas a cov ops would struggle.

The cheetah is really good, but it's made of glass.

2 weeks ago I did a 120 systems jump into RA, goon, bob space and beyond, ran into gate camps, bubbles and chased all over the place, 4hrs later my Buzzard was still in one piece after I made it back to highsec. Always wanted to do it, just to check other places out.

Or just do what everybody else does... get on your PvE alt's account, create a minnie specops pilot, use the newbie ship included or get a shuttle...

Definitely the best Cov Ops with its speed. Min for the win.

Covops for sure. I've been through plenty of camps, bubbled and not. The only time I lost my ship was because I got complacent. I jumped in, aligned to warp, hit my cloak, and turned away for a second, only to find out I had jumped in next to biomass. It's easily avoided if you stick an AB or MWD on though, and a couple stabs for good measure.
Plus covops have the unique ability of weaving their way through bubbles quickly while cloaked. Always gets my blood pumping, but never had a problem. PLACE SIGNATURE HERE What?! [Insert event here] happened? Quick, start a new thread on the forums! "Moot", not "mute". |

Edited by: Cygnus Zhada on 17/10/2007 01:51:11 Covops frigate, i really can't see how people would want to scout an enemy gate with a non cloaker. Cheetah is the fastest and thus the best option, give it a MWD, battery and as much base speed mods in low as possible. Great scout. My Anathema has a cloak, recon launcher, T2 MWD, T2 24km point, named sensor dampener, 2 nanofiber and 1 fitting module in low. Works like a charm. You can easily live through most gatecamps unless you made a mistake or you lagged.
The trick to being a good scout is to have some situational awareness, a fast computer and have the systems you're going to BMed to hell and back. IF you get killed in a bubble it's 70% your own fault and 30% bad luck (lag etc). I have no problem whatsoever to jump into an enemy gatecamp of 100+, I'd rather not ofc hehe but I've done so against Razor and friends. There's a few tricks to help you lessen the lag problem and with an enemy blob that big you need to have a tad of luck but if odds look to be against you simply rush back to the gate.

So the Cheetah wins.
However, interceptors are slightly better for surviving gate camps in 0.0. I suppose this sightly increased risk of flying covops is an indication of the risk scouts take.

Sure a Cheetah will let you observe but you won't be doing any PvP in it. Get a Sabre or a Rapier if you need a covops cloak. Covert Ops ships are really only good for fleets. -----

I like the Slasher myself. With an iStab in the low slot it aligns and warps almost as fast as a shuttle, and a T1 MWD gives it pretty decent speed (for making bookmarks & such).
Also the look like space dune-buggys, so I can play The Beachboys while I'm scouting!
CONCORD provide consequences, not safety; only you can do that. |

(Oh boy am I gonna get flamed for this... )
I find the Gallente Atron fitted with a MWD, T2 small cap battery (for long jumps) and nanos and inertial stabs in the lows to the be cheapest high-risk scout in the game.
Not as fast as an inty, and no room for weapons, but spins and warps on a dime, and far less expensive than your typical T2-fit interceptor. And unlike shuttles, can burn out of a bubble with moderate success.
(Yes... my Stiletto is faster... and can tackle. And covert ops are quite nice too. But as far as bang-for-buck, when you're pretty sure the scouting trip will end you up in a clone bay, the Atron can't be beat.)

Well sir, that is nice example of using element of surprise. Freighters may provide nice effect as well. Maybe even one --

I'll second the Atron as a disposable scout. With good skills, you might even be able to fit a couple of rails or blasters on it, although it wont last long in any sort of fight.

Id say a rapier. Its fast, it can warp cloaked, and if it sees somthing it can tackle and web the target till the gang arrives. Its the ability to web from over 20km that makes me rate it over an arazu since it can stop people burning back to the gate.

Cov ops, hands down.
Just fill lows with Odis and fit a MWD for when you get decloaked.
Most of the time you can fly straight through the bubbles and they won't even know you were there. Also 700m/s cloaked makes it damn hard to find you if they start chasing you.
Plus you can't beat the adrenaline of zigzaging through an enemy bubble right between 20 enemy ships. __________________________________ Gallente by birth. Amarr by choice. iDrone |

Not PvP in a cov ops? For shame, for shame.
My Helios is great in PvP. Scan the complacent non-cloaking target down (the few that still exist), sneak up, decloak, and slap 2 or 4 points of scram & a web on it, and wait for the gang to arrive. Yeah, it makes tissue paper look tough, but few targets get a chance to launch their drones before being locked and by the time they can target the cov ops there's a gang of rabid monkeys landing on their back.
OFC, my helios can actually do an itty tiny little bit of damage (1x light drone), but it can get on killmails just fine with their Warp Scram II.
