I used to use Azureus which I thought was great. I recently downloaded and installed their latest client only to find they have gone all corporate and is now loaded with proprietary crap. Bit Torrent has likewise been co-opted by the entertainment industry.
Anyone have a recommendation for a good torrent client?

I use utorrent myself, i've heard complaints about it but I wasn't really listening and I don't use it often so I havn't seen anything wrong with it.

I recommend MicroTorrent, Jora'h. It's uber lightweight (214k), extremely reliable and with a very nice set of features.
Only for Window$, tho, and Wine.

I use uTorrent and Azureus, depending on which one is deciding to work at that point in time (my computer is a failure D:)
Both are great though.

I use Azureus too, haven't tried anything else (seen others using BitTorrent, seems nasty!), and don't have any reason to change. If there is something totally amazing about utorrent then please do tell, and I'll switch.
As for Azureus, I'm fairly certain the VUZE stuff is optional, either by a separate download or an option in the installation process.
If not, try downloading an older version here. Also, just so you know, updating it doesn't add the VUZE stuff (thank goodness!)

Maybe I didn't pay close enough attention but somehow I got all that Vuze crap. I uninstalled shortly after.

Yeah I helped my ex install and set up Azureus the other day, she decided she wanted to try the extra stuff, and although it looked blooming awful to me, she seemed happy enough with it. I'm fairly sure I remember it being optional, though I may just remember thinking about getting an older version to get around it...

Ok found a link to the non Vuse version Linkage use that instead of the 3.0 from their site.

I've used a few. Azureus is crap. Bitorrent is crap. My favourite, due to the fact that it's easy as hell to use and the UI is very easy to use, is BitLord. >>Out of Control<< |

uTorrent. again.
Asuereurrrus is pretty good too, but being a java app its pretty slow (in an application sense, rather than download speed).
as i'm sure the guy who posted it knows, bitlord is a steaming pile of pus-filled cack.

I use Azureus 2.5, the one that does not have Vuze. Azureus 3.0 (the one the OP has) ha sthe Vuze feature... which is cool and all (unless you have a crappy computer)
BTW, the 3.0 version has an Advanced Mode that works exactlty as the 2.5 version. +-+-+-+-+ Booya! It¦s red! Run from the red! "Rikeka is Moon Mining, Moon Mining is Rikeka" |
