For all those of you who are stupid enough to play this game with a wireless mouse, or just haven't thought about it yet, switch to a wired mouse, and quickly.
This game is mouse based. I need my mouse to target an enemy (unless I had FoF missiles I suppose) and I need my mouse to warp out.
So this morning, I was casually going about my business, mining a bit for the half hour I had before work. We've been having some problems with ore flippers in our system a bit lately, so I've been mining to several GSCs I've placed around the belts. Two GSCs filled, rats in two belts taken out. No big deal. I warp to the third belt, ready to fill another GSC, and lo and behold, more rats in this belt as well. I warp in, ready to take out the rats and start mining.... and my wireless mouse ****s. I can't target, I can't release my drones, I can't even just warp out of there.
My wireless keyboard and mouse are hooked up to the same system, so the wireless keyboard was out, as well. I tried calling to my corp mates but my keyboard spits out things like "iiiiiiiiii" and "lghop". I'm not about to log off, because the rats have already started shooting at me (and I think I had an agression timer from rats in a previous belt). I log off now, I lose my ship. If I stay on, perhaps my mouse will kick back on or my corp mates can come and help. I'm halfway down on armor (and I'm a shield tanking Caldari) by the time my keyboard works and I can call for help. Too late. I pop before the corp mates can come in.
Reboot of the computer fixed the mouse problem, for now. I wonder if it was something stupid like someone upstairs using a cell phone or something. Ah well. I had insurance, and most of the stuff on my ship actually survived. I petitioned it, if only for the principle of the thing. I'll be able to fly my Retriever tonight or tomorrow anyways, so I guess it's a little bit of a moot point. Anyways, it could be my own fault for using a wireless mouse with the game. Live and learn. :) But tonight, I'm fetching out my wired mouse. :D ------------------- 4 8 15 16 23 42 108 |

I can't help but laugh imagining this from the other corp member's side..... It'd be like "Erm, is he drunk O-o?".
On a more serious note... how'd your keyboard Die? o-O Please don't tell me the batteries are in the receiver. I mean, I have NEVER had my wireless keyboard batteries die EXCEPT the Logitech MX5000 (which apparently leaves the bluetooth connection up 24/7)

Well then again you can't manually move threads, and the GMs NEVER visit S&M (as proven by Sc0rphion's continued posting). ------------------------------ One more soldier off to war... And one Velator in my hangars. |

Heh, if I wasn't clear enough, they were NPC rats. Some Blood Raiders. That's what makes it most frustrating. I could accept if it was Player pirates that wiped me out, cause I'd probably lose to them anyway. ;) I'm just thankful it wasn't in low sec and some player come and pod me, too.
No, the batteries didn't die at all. After I restarted my computer the mouse and keyboard was fine again. They somehow lost connection. Anyways, I can live with my keyboard being on wireless and risk dying. The worst that could happen is I won't be able to chat or use shortcuts, but my mouse is my Eve lifeblood. That's getting replaced. :) ------------------- 4 8 15 16 23 42 108 |

You also need to learn game mechanics If you had logged off, you would have emergency-warped and most likely saved your ship. There is no such thing as a harmful aggro timer from pirate NPCs, nor are there scrambling NPCs in highsec.
There is no 'n' in turret There is no 'r' in faction There is no 'a' in Scorpion There is no 'e' in Caldari There is no makeup in rogue drones |

I used to have an old MS wireless mouse that munched through batteries at a frightening rate and would often run low at inopportune moments. I switched to a Logitech one that charges when docked and has little green lights to warn me if it's getting low and have not had any problems since (touch wood). However, my keyboard is still wired as I see no need for a wireless one, so I could at least have logged off.

Logging off before they started shooting at me would not have been an option. For the beginning of the encounter my keyboard was messed up, too. ------------------- 4 8 15 16 23 42 108 |

As far as I know logging off due to NPC aggro doesn't keep you logged in. Besides...if they weren't scrambling you, you would have warped out from logging off anyways =P ---

I have a wireless keyboard and mouse. I always keep a pair of (rechargeable) battries in a drawer next to me. Takes a few seconds to replace them and all is fine.

From time to time I have troubles with my mouse, but it isn't the mouse's wireless it is the logitech set point software which is needed to enable the third mousebutton and other stuff. Some components of the driver seem to run in userland and not kernel. If I hit a load spike on my system the mouse has a blackout and looses button up events and other fun stuff. Just happens with the logitech set point software active. Works 'fine' without the utility (As 2 button mouse with hard to move wheel).

Wireless keyboards are for neo-bourgeois. Why anyone would want one is beyond me, particularly since it's an easily captured and deciphered signal. If you don't mind broadcasting your passwords to everyone smart enough to intercept them, well, you deserve what you get.
As for wireless mice...
Newer logitech units definitely run longer on a set of batteries. Still, you should never use a wireless mouse in a game without new batteries close at hand. -------------------------------------------------- FRIGATS Coalition FREGE-Red-IAC-Goon-AAA-Tau-Southerncross

yes, if you had just logged you would have been fine.
the extremely stupid thing is that when you have an agro countdown actually displayed on your screen from an NPC, that doesnt affect you when logging off. but when you get agro from a PC it does affect you logging off but does *not* display on your screen.

Very lame. Even lamer: These things are not spelled out in the "manual" (a.k.a. guides). Everything having to do with agression timers and what happens to my ship upon logging I've had to hear from other players. ------------------- 4 8 15 16 23 42 108 |

Well, he says patting his trusty lefty logitech lazer mouse, those wireless dongles can be finicky in some respects.
Example I plug the wireless dongle into the front usb port on my pc and even tho it is less than 1 foot away, clear line of sight with nothing blocking, the darn thing burps and farts and generally is unusable.
Yet I plug the wireless dongle into a usb hub it works perfect, same distance but the hub is away from my pc.

I went from my wireless mouse to my Razer wired mouse. Wired is better, most people agree, and so do I. Its faster (in almost inhuman degrees however) but more, its more reliable and stable.
