After the armageddon thingy, we've seen statements that "1800++ online and looking good". Does this mean the lag-cap of 700 will be gone, and we'll see up to 1800 pilots in fleet combat in 0.0?
Is this what we can expect from the nodes after Christmas? :D

Isnt Sisi a single node? Or is sisi also a cluster of several servers? Sorry, I believed that Sisi was a single server (node - and hence we could expect this from each node on TQ (if those pesky system that are under siege get a separate node, ofc).

Good point - but still, just as comparison ... a little spinnoff - they had problems at the start with 700 people on Sisi - pretty much equal to the cap we've seen on TQ (on separate nodes - more than that, and the node dies). Or more realisticly, 3-400 people without too many nodecrashes.
So maybe we can expect 1000 people in combat shortly then? I'm just hoping .. :)

That would be nice, but I wouldn't take any bets on it. I don't expect any major improvements in server lag until CCP finishes rewriting their netcode. ---------------- Tarminic - 29 million SP in Forum Warfare Originally by: CCP Wrangler Booooo!!! Tarminic sux!!!

Maybe Singularity started off as a single server, but they have been expanding it lately with old hardware from Tranquility that got replaced with newer tech. Which is good, because the larger Singularity gets, the better it can reliably duplicate the behavior of Tranquility under stress.
I actually believe that this Armageddon Day was not just a random event to pass the downtime, but also an extended stress test - and there's no better way to get as many people as possible to stress-test than with the promise of free for all pew-pew

well given what information I have gleamed from various sources...
EVE itself came about as not only as a future game by a new gaming software company known as CCP, but also was used said game plan as a 'super cluster' as such approached IBM for the server kit, as such IBM sponsored CCP, as such, CCP got access to alot of IBM hardware for little or no ISK (grin... gotta love ISK as a real currency) as such, I dont really think that CCP actually has much if any old IBM hardware just laying around... it I would guess is swapped out for uber sparkly IBM hardware to totally stress test on said super-cluster.
As such, its a win-win deal for CCP, they get new and up -to-date IBM hardware constantly for no outlay... and IBM get the results they are after. Hardware thats PROVEN to run at 110% load, with their magical 99.9999% uptime.
Of course... I may be totally incorrect and talking out my arse, but hey... I'm acting on information given to me, and adding to it ---

I think TQ has around 160-200 nodes atm.

Hey Wrangler, could you tell me how much it would cost to equip every single system in EVE with it's own node? I want to find out how high that figure is.
Or just the cost of one server + it's peripheral networking equipment would be fine. ---------------- Tarminic - 29 million SP in Forum Warfare Originally by: CCP Wrangler Booooo!!! Tarminic sux!!!

There are approximately 6500 solar systems in EVE. Average IBM blade unit costs about 1500 USD. Sums up at 10 million USD.
But there would still be server lag in Jita, Motsu and large battles.

Well, 200-ish nodes at around 2 mil USD, and 5000+ solar systems in EVE... 50 mil USD will probably be enough So, you know, kind of like, the whole income of CCP (no salaries paid, no dividends for shareholders, just taxes and running costs paid) for about 2 years or more... _

As far as I know, TQ is made up of IBM Bladecentres. Each Blade (dual xeon, tons of ram) is 2 nodes (2 processors?) so 5000 systems in eve (give or take) = 2500 blades? Now, how much are the blades each hehe...
Should get CCP reasonably high on the supercomputer chart

EVE cluster is not a supercomputer, because of maximum of 1 CPU per node limitation. Once the core EVE code is rewritten and Infiniband hardware installed to support multiple CPUs per node, Tranquility has a chance of becoming a proper supercomputer.

As fasr as I know EvE cluster is, or was, in the top 500 or 200 fastests clusters in the world (or I was dreaming). And each node manages one or more systems.

I probably should remember this, but I believe we expect to have the server become part of the top 500 supercomputers within a year or something like that. Can't remember exactly though and it's late and such.

Can you tell us what a 'node' consists of?
Are we talking single CPU partitions on pSeries, or pSeries boxes configured as whole machines? how many CPU's? How much memory? ISs there any dynamic reallocation of partition resources by the machines ?(IE: micro partitioning and resource allocation on the fly should a node suddenly get busier?)
or is it not pSeries at all?
or should I go somewhere else to find out :)
