Quote: well.. lasers ARE beter than rails at the moment
why?
on a Megathron 425mm railguns are way better than megabeams/tachyons, in almost every aspect...
425mm railgun on a Raven is slightly better than a megabeam on an apoc. |

EMP L is mainly EM+Explosive damage, Phased Plasma is mainly thermal, hybrid ammo is Kinetic+Thermal, Laser crystals is EM+Thermal... EM and Thermal have the least shield resistance and are the most common damage types in ammotypes.. so that is why they are used so much.

Edited by: TWD on 25/02/2004 11:13:50 No, I am saying that people dont use EM+Thermal hardeners just to only encounter lasers. imo laser damage is fine. just the capacitor usage is a bit too high. |

Quote: Edited by: Admiral IceBlock on 25/02/2004 15:27:01 the apoc certainly doesnt need a laser dmg bonus!!!
and ur not suppose to run all ur lasers while running ur xl booster forever without getting a empty capacitor...
and how many reactors and diags do u need to fitt 6 megabeams on a apoc? none
Rofl nuub, 6x megabeams = 19500 powergrid
base apoc powergrid = 15000 * 1.25 = 18750
when fitting enough cap relays, lasers are quite doable.. but if cap relays get nerfed, lasers will suck compared to other weapons

Quote: Let's compare the Mega Beam and the 425MM Railgun, They have comparable DoT (Mega Beam has just 6% better DoT). The 425 has 20% better optimal and 33% better fall-off range. The 425 uses 53% less cap over time (And even less if/when the current changes on chaos are put on TQ). And on top of that, the apoc doesn't have a damage bonus where the megathron does.
you are forgetting that hybrid ammo do more damage compared to crystals 48 vs 44, AM L vs MF L
so 425mm railguns are slightly better in doing RAW damage over time compared to a megabeam you will be able to fit 7 425mm railguns on the apoc without powerdiags/reactor controls after the next patch, so why bother fitting lasers anyway? |

Edited by: TWD on 28/02/2004 03:47:58 hmz sorry for the lack of explanation ;p
lets say the skills: - large energy turret level 4 - large hybrid turret level 4 - rapid firing level 5 - surgical strike level 4
Megabeam: (2.75*1.2*1.12*44) / (9*0.8*0.9) = (3.696*44) / 6.48 = 25.1 damage per sec (Base damage mod * let * ss * multifreq) / (base rof * rapid firing * gunnery) 425mm railgun: (2.75*1.2*1.12*48) / (9.56*0.8*0.9) = (3.696*48) / 6.88 = 25.8 damage per sec (Base damage mod * lht * ss * AM) / (base rof * rapid firing * gunnery)
so using this, 425mm railgun is almost 3% better than the megabeam in raw damage
the negative things on using 425mm railguns instead of lasers on the apoc is:
- ammo + reloading - less tracking - requires more cpu - no instant crystal switching - can suck a bit against shields because of the natural shield kinetic resistance
positive:
- less capacitor usage - less powergrid requirements - better optimal range
sure hope I got everything right here, else please correct me.
tbh I use an apoc with 4 tachyons on atm, until L hybrid level 4 finishes ;P main reasons for switching is the capacitor usage, and the 425mm railguns do more damage because I can fit alot of them without using power diags/reactor controls
