Ok this isn't meant to be a discussion about the nerf to carriers brought up in the dev blog, just a place where people who don't like the idea can just type /signed not to do it. If you do like the idea for whatever reason just ignore the post.

It only don't make them skills a waste in any way its trying to fix the fact carrier's are not used as support and stop them been used solo.
I have most of the skills needed for a maxed out Nid and i don't see them as been a waste of time in any way as you can still send out as many fighter's as you could befor only not control them all your self. !

I'm guessing ___ won't like this because they can't blob a system with fighters to lag incoming attackers from attacking their titans or pos. Isn't that their normal tactics?
Although I don't like to hear that people will loose time for training. This idea does have some merit since it will cut down on the use of fighters to lag severs.

Its kills small corp/alliance power with carriers as their capitals as it requires larger fleet actions involving a bunch of pilots for the power (if any is left) of the carrier to be truely realized.

it is already used extensively as a support ship, though it has to be on the front lines to be used as one and a carriers defence IS its fighters... how can a carrier not be able to controll around 15 manned fighters at a time it aint that hard

For the simple reason that this does not fix any of the current issues with carriers and motherships, and renders modules such as Drone Control Units pretty useless, as you will want to keep even 5's.

That's the thing, if you're serious about deplying caps, there will be exactly as many fighters deployed, and having billions of support will be mandatory if you want to use your dps. There will actually be more lag.
Also, carriers are used as support all the time, get in one and you'll learn what it means to rep a station. If just for the introduction of station services and capital remote reps, they shouldn't nerf it any more. -----------

It's a nerf (not a fix) to carriers and it's a nerf (not a fix) to the gang overall, since the carrier's fighters supplant whatever drone dps the gang's ships would normally have had.
Furthermore, it removes two roles from the carrier (self defense and any sort of respectable damage dealer), while giving nothing at all to the fleet that it doesn't already have. Some well fitted cruisers, and certainly the overwhelming majority of BC's, will be able to tank carriers ffs.
Even right now, Carriers are not solo, not pwn, and not widely used as blob machines. And yes, I've been carrier/mothership blobbed by MC (darn them!).
Also, it's just ridiculous that a Moros will do more damage with (only) 5 Ogre II's than a carrier is capable of outputting entirely.

I understand the need of balancing, so the new customers can actually play the game, low sp chars can fight someone with higher sp, but nerfing carriers is just wrong. AND it is a nerf. Logically, yes, a 1b isk ship can kill a BS in seconds (when skilled well and BS pilot is a dumbass). on the other hand, a blasterthron can kill a frig within seconds, does that mean it should be nerfed too? I mean... if someone plays 2/3/4 years, invests time (in boring skills) and isk, why punish them because a couple month old player whines? ffs... CCP if you want to root out older players, who loose interest in the game, because their favorite ships become crap, you're doing a good job.
AND, if this is supposed to fix lag, think about this - okay, carrier can CONTROl only 5 fighters, but still can launch 12-15 and assign them to others. is that a lag fix you think?

Hi, I'm Zalapurk and recently transferred from the Quality Assurance department to the Game Design team. IÆve been with CCP for just under two years now and donÆt plan on going anywhere. Say hello to your newest balancer (I still haven't received a nerfbat though).
I'm posting here now because the last few days we've been looking at the way battleships are functioning on Tranquility, and to be honest weære a little concerned with the direction itæs taking.
What we want is pretty basic: We want to make battleships more reliant on their support fleet and less of a direct nber deathbringer.
How are we going to do it?
Well, we have an idea, and before you go ballistic remember that this is an idea and weære still working on it:
We plan on changing the way guns work, and have it so that you can still have all the guns you want (within limits of your ship/skills) but you can only directly fire 2 of them at a time. That means that a battleship can assign 2 guns to a gang mate, assign 2 more to another gang mate etc. etc.
This means you will NOT be able to fire 6/7/8 guns from a battleship and aim them all to incinerate a cruiser in .2 seconds. It does however mean that you can assign 2 guns to each of your lilæ friends in the fleet and use them as the messengers of your burning fury.
Remember, weære not messing with the final total amount of guns you can have, just the amount you can control and delegate at a time. You can of course also operate 2 guns and make them attack a target of your own choice, if it pleases you.
